The Cards look like they're actually going to drop this one, as their pen's shakey performance tonight finally caught up with them in the form of a Tony Batista grand slam in the 12th. Here's the real kicker: four runs off of ONE hit. And they walked Vidro intentionally to get to Batista. I know this is just one game, but the Cards' pen pitched much like they probably should be pitching.

Damn, that's a hell of a start. I think when you're finished with those, you will have fully been converted.

Is anyone watching the Cardinals game? This homeplate ump has been absolutely horrible. An Expo clearly got hit on the hand and he said it was a foul ball. This was in the eighth with runners on. Then in the 10th, with two on, he gives the Cards' reliever a pair of very generous strikes, which lead to a strikeout. Had he called them balls like everyone thought he should've (even the Cards' announcers), they would've had the bags full with Batista, the guy who tied it in the ninth, up. I mean, it's the freaking Expos. They've got enough going against them with shitty umpiring.

Eh, maybe to the people in Oakland. We could get swept and it wouldn't mean that much. The idea that it maybe possibly could be an ALCS or ALDS match up isn't that intriguing to me.

    Good Documentaries

American Pimp isn't too shabby. Also, if you want to get real in-depth with some particular subjects, you simply cannot go wrong with Ken Burns. His documentaries are massive, hence the DVD sets available are quite costly. But still, you may be able to track down VHS copies to rent or whatever. Very worthwhile. The Baseball and Civil War series are especially good, if you ask me.

Ichiro has a five-hit game in the first of a double-header. He's got a realistic shot of getting nine hits on the day the way he's been swinging the bat.
  8. Several episodes of Seinfeld have scenes that were clearly done many times. Usually you'll see Jerry or Elaine trying their hardest not to crack a smile or laugh and usually failing to do the former. One scene in particular was The Pen, where Jerry and Elaine went to Florida to visit his parents. Elaine took a lot of painkillers and was making all these goofy faces and yelling "Stella!" from A Streetcar Named Desire. Liz Sheridan (Jerry's mom) quite clearly laughs through a great deal of the scene, even though everyone was supposed to be keeping a pretty straight face.

Something tells me it has to do with the Nikjohnson thread in this folder, as well as Nik, himself.

Dama obviously hasn't been paying attention lately. Put down the god damn Maximum Carnage arc and get with the program. It's easier to keep tabs on them when they don't delete the account and just ban them, instead.

He looked a bit uncomfortable on the first pitch, but he adjusted nicely and while he grounded out, impressed me simply by not going down on strikes.

    Kris Benson: hero to all

A fat wallet and moderate fame, despite having a bit of both herself, would be my guess.

Heh, for the record, I went back and edited my original post when I saw that Tom had not slammed Tyson in his original post.

    When your idols get old

I was a huge fan of Ken Griffey Jr. during his days with the Mariners. With him it wasn't necessarily that he got old; he just couldn't stay healthy. If this trend continues for the rest of his career, he could be one of those guys who's discussed in the "what if" category.

Good to see the people of NY have something to focus on other than Benson's mediocre abilities.

Nah. She can see when a movie is bad and still like it, but a lot of the time, she'll genuinely think some piece of shit movie was actually good. And by the same token, she tends to not like a lot of movies I think are good. For instance, she said Monster was the dumbest movie she'd ever seen. But oh well, she cooks, cleans and is insanely generous to me, so I'm able to overlook it. Most of the time. I've got a free pass to the show, too. Although, I'm considering going and then hopping over to another movie that I actually, ya know, wanna see.

True, but not too many of those come down the pike these days. Of course, we're getting the new Exorcist movie in a few weeks, but hard to say if that's going to be any good or not.

She wasn't much of a baseball fan in the beginning, but I've more or less forced the game (and more specifically, the Cubs) on her. She doesn't know a whole lot about the sport still, so it's kinda cute to listen to her talk about it. I always got on her about Alex Gonzalez because she thought he was hot. She was a big Lofton fan, too and always tells me they should've kept him. Considering how things in center have gone this year, maybe she actually is on to something. But anyway, yeah, we don't exactly share the same taste in movies. She's into the horror genre, while I'm into more of the critically acclaimed flicks. At least she wants to go see Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, though.

My girlfriend went out with her friends and cousins tonight to go to the movies and they were actually going to see Catwoman (remind me to give her a light slam later). Funny thing is, they got there and they weren't running it because no one bought tickets for the showing. Good thing, too. Better believe my disapointment when she actually said that's what they were going to see.

    The "Fire Bowa" Thread

I don't think so. The pen has blown many games, but I not enough in the ninth to justify that reasoning. Their offense just seems to have underachieved most of the season and their starting pitching has been embarrassing at times.
