What is with umpires trying to get in the spotlight? That was embarrassing.

Where the hell is Czech? I feel odd venting/talking about the Cubs without his input.

The Cubs are sure incompetent away from Wrigley. Holy shit.
  4. There's a film festival in town this weekend and one of the attractions was Kevin Murphy appearing before a viewing of Mystery Science Theater: The Movie last night. The movie was excellent, but Murphy's portion was one of the most grating live things I've ever had to sit through. He barely talked about the show or movie (which, I had assumed, would be the focal point of his entire appearance) and instead spent almost 90 minutes ranting and raving about how screwed up Hollywood is. I ducked out to the lobby near the end and there were actually people complaining to the poor concessions girl about how long Murphy had been talking. Even the ushers were joking with me about how much he was talking. He was apparently supposed to only do 45 minutes but went well over that. Just an example of one form of humor (TV/movies) not at all translating to another (stand-up comedy).

If anyone's able to get the White Sox radio feed, they should check it out to hear how cantankerous and bitter Steve Stone sounds now. Stoney's always been an asshole, but he's taken it to a new level since getting the White Sox radio gig. He's been pretty impartial between the Sox and Cubs during his guest spots on the Score the last several years, but I guess that isn't allowed when he's calling a game for the Sox. I heard he said something about being sick to his stomach last weekend when he saw the Cubs' victory flag raised after they beat the Sox.

Derrek Lee has apparently decided that grounding into double-plays by the boatload is the hot trend this summer.

Yes, I based my assessment on a handful of innings, just like you did. Thanks for playing.

    Orioles bullpen isn't that good.

I can only hope that the response was "Fuck you. You're Shawn Chacon." Seven of the AL's nine could conceivably be Red Sox or Yankees. Viva la American League. Might be a tough, but necessary move. Let's hope he gets traded to a team with a GM who has good self-defense skills.

I'm ready to eat crow Re: Jim Edmonds. He looked awful at first, but he's become a real cog in this offense. Even if he goes in the tank again, he's already made Hendry's investment look wise.

And Albers leaves after a third of an inning with an injury. I don't expect a plethora of Marvin update posts tonight.

"An insane amount of ranch please."

So I guess what we're agreeing on is that only squares use straight up ketchup for their fry-dipping needs?

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

I haven't thought of this song in years. So long in fact that I didn't even realize Mannie and Birdman had anything to do with the track.

    Name a food you didn't like/truly appreciate....

I grew up in a house where "variety" meant eating Wendy's for dinner because we'd had McDonald's the night before. So I've gained an appreciation for many foods since I've been fending for myself. Off the top of my head: - Pretty much any vegetables - Chicken - Most sea food - Cheeses not named American

"An insane amount of ranch please."

I'd never heard of the concept until my dad poured some on a batch of fries when he took my brother and me to the carnival 11 or 12 years ago. When I saw him doing it, I chalked it up to him being a lush, but I'll be damned if they weren't some of the tastiest fries I'd ever had.

    What did you eat today?

I wouldn't worry about it if that's anything like a typical day of eating for you.

You should be. At a glance, these are two pitchers this year's Cubs just eat alive.

I can't feel too bad about the Cubs losing a game by two runs when they were down five late and had a AAA pitcher starting for them. And Henry Blanco as their last hope.

    1) You've seen their middle relief, almost always the weakest part of any ballclub. 2) Said middle relief hasn't given up any earned runs.

I'd hope so against the likes of Sean Marshall.

    What did you eat today?

Just whipped up a batch of chili using spicy V8 juice, lean ground beef, chili seasoning, kidney beans, yellow onion, and yellow peppers. Hit the spot. I was out of almost all food earlier, so I had to improvise and wound up with a grilled chicken lettuce wrap with banana peppers, brown mustard, and a smidgen of light mayo.

I will personally murder anyone devastated by the death of Larry the Cable Guy.

    George Carlin dead

I'm one of those people who got exposed to Carlin's bitter old man persona long before I saw any of his early work. That said, I was actually more a fan of the former. He got a little too out there these last few years and I wasn't a fan of special before his last one. He'd become too reliant on gross-out humor and his negativity toward everything had become more spiteful rather than humorous. At least this thread hasn't degenerated into a "discussion" about how he's burning in Hell right now.

    George Carlin dead

Genuinely shocking even though he hasn't looked well in a couple of years. My brother and I saw him perform live four years ago. Phoned in performance, but still entertaining.
