    The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

Why the hell would you applause after Taps is played? It's not like it's some celebration diddy.

Just because they've had a lot of guys on the DL doesn't mean it's a fake. I could see them wanting to get him some rehab starts just to get some confidence back, but I'd buy the injury, if for no other reason than Borowski hasn't looked at all like he did last season. And I was happy to see Hawkins get the save, too, but he didn't look all that comfortable out there. Better than Borowski, but they're obviously going to let guys like Farns and Beltran take a stab at closing games out while Borowski is on the DL. After all, they would still like Farns to be a closer someday (not all that likely now) and they see Beltran being their closer eventually.

I saw it and it looked brutal, not to mention something that you'll probably see once in a lifetime.

Borowski was placed on the 15 day DL with right shoulder strain. This could explain his poor performances this season, but regardless, this may be the time for someone to step up in the closer role.

This entire post sounds like a self-parody. Stop taking yourself so seriously, AS. It's frustrating to see your favorite team lose, but stop acting like it's the end of the world. It's one game. You will not stand for them no-showing games? How, exactly? What are you going to do about it? What are you in position to do about it? The answer to both: nothing. You don't like your team to get blown out? I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of the fan who enjoyed seeing their team get their asses handed to them. It's not easy to take, but it happens to every team at least a few times throughout the season. Get over yourself, man.

So them winning four straight prior to this, nine of their last 10 and nine of their last 10 series, not to mention having a three and a half game lead over the Red Sox, isn't good enough for you? I know some say I'm as bad with the Cubs, but if they were in the Yanks' position from me, you'd be hearing nothing but good things from me. Over the course of 162 games, you're likely to lose quite a few. Especially when your opposition is as good as Texas is.

Welp, not like he didn't live a long life. His health has been on a downward slide for years, so I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. R.I.P.

Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you, Mr. Astros Fan? If Kyle could get a semblence of control with his pitches, I think he'd be a strong closer. Until then, he's as unreliable as JoBo can be.

I think so. And I also think Borowski should be run out of town. He said he hates media scrutiny so now he won't take questions. Major media markets aren't good places to hate the media. Ship him. Agreed. He was a big asset most of last year, but I don't think he's the closer the Cubs should have if they're serious about contending. Moving him down in the pen won't help much, since the majority of these guys are brought in during tight situations, which is exactly the reason why we're discussing getting him out of the closer role.

I'd give him a shot at it. Granted the last time he got a chance he blew it, but at this point, it doesn't hurt any to try it. I'd say don't fix it if it's not broken, but it's safe to say it's broken right now. Hell with this only being JoBo's second blown save; nearly all of his outings have been struggles, as evident by his ERA. Go with the guy who's usually lights out.

Great game until Borowski came into the fold. The Cubs then had a chance to tie it up, but GAVE them an out with stupid small ball, something they suck at. Then Lee can't get the job done, either, once again. So of course, it comes down to Patterson. And if he's not striking out, he's popping out. Very painful loss and I surely hope that Dusty takes this is a sign that Borowski was a one season fluke as closer.

Ugh. This game is a classic, but Joe Borowski needs to be taken out of the closer role. He got LUCKY as HELL with Alou's diving catch, but the defense can only do so much.

Six-pitch first inning for Prior. Nice.

I'm not scared, yet. If the Cubs are still that far back with Sosa, Prior and Wood far removed from the DL, THEN I'll worry. Anyone psyched for the Cubs game today, though? Should be a great game. Prior returning is going to be awesome and the Cubs have always hit Fogg well. I'm thinking about taping it.

    Why or why not?

I didn't just because there wasn't much to get misty-eyed about, except for when he mentioned Monsoon at the end of the speech. I just felt a bit depressed after that, since it would've really been great if Monsoon were still here. Thank god for the Heenan portion, though, as I've found the majority of the speeches to be almost unbearable at times. This is referring to the speeches on Disc 1, though, as I've only watched a bit of the second. I wish they had included more Heenan stuff from PTW, since what we've got is under five minutes in total. Still great stuff. "Don't stop driving. There's tigers over there!"

No, but it seems that most of the praises for Cincy are through rose-tinted glasses. I agree they're playing pretty good ball right now, but their shoddy defense is going to play a factor eventually. Trust me, if a team has a big flaw, it'll eventually be exposed and end up playing a role. Look at the Cubs and Red Sox' pens from last season. Both wound up being costly flaws. As for Casey, he's been on a roll all season, but you people are insane if you think he's actually going to keep this up all season. He's been in the big leagues for seven years, so his offensive numbers aren't just going to go through the roof like that. He may be having a career season, but things will eventually level out. We aren't in the beginning of the season anymore, but there's still 110 games to be played. If he can actually keep those numbers up, more power to him. But looking at past seasons and this season, I just don't see that actually happening.

What insults? Their defense has been just awful the last couple of weeks. I'm not biased on the matter, just look for yourself. It's not an insult when it's the truth. Eight errors in three games isn't exactly good baseball. And I love when people think that bringing something completely unrelated is a solid counterargument. What, may I ask, do the Cubs have to do with the Reds' bad defense?

Not like his defense was helping matters at all.

And rightfully so. He's yet to really prove that he deserves a spot in the starting lineup. Aggressive or not, it's no excuse to pop out on the first or second pitch as often as he does. Except reality.

Patterson shows his youth with those comments and Lee shows his experience with his. I've been a big defender of Patterson, but if he can't learn to hit some of these ball outside of the zone or lay off completely, then he deserves to be booed.
