What is the funniest TV show ever?
Bruiser Chong replied to spiny norman's topic in Television & Film
The fact that you don't find Seinfeld funny but appreciate Friends doesn't surprise me at all. Friends has to be one of the most overrated "comedies" of the 90's with a "humor" that smacks you over the head anytime you are supposed to laugh. Those who usually don't like Seinfeld are the same types who want their "comedy" laid out in front of them in an obvious form. After all, you shouldn't have to *gasp* think at all when you watch a comedy. -

Someone's been watching too much Beavis and Butthead. As far as funniest show ever, it begins and ends with Seinfeld. The Simpsons is probably my favorite show, but I think Seinfeld was almost always consistent with each show. I can't think of a single episode that I'd say I hate. Every episode had at least a few things that made it redeemable. A lot of people don't "get it." I guess that's just because it doesn't fit their idea of a funny show, but then again, that's what make the show so great. It thought outside the box and did everything it could to avoid being like the rest of the comedy shows out there. It was about nothing, but in a way, it was about everything. Situation comedies are fun to watch (certain ones, anyway), but rarely are they relatable. We know that in the real world, a lesson can't be learned at the end of 22-minutes of laughs and wacky misadventures, and Seinfeld thrived on this. Every week, no real lesson was learned, no moral had been taught, but that's life. We have laughs over the minutia of our everyday lives and Seinfeld took that reality and made it into the greatest comedy of all-time. Simple as that. -
The One And Only Raw Thread (11/10/03)

BorneAgain is perping off me. -
I agree that having the kids age is pointless at this point. Besides, those who are saying it's a good idea would surely be bitching about it as soon as they did it, as these are more or less the same people who are complaining about changes the show has made over the year. Admittedly Barney isn't nearly as funny or even noticeable anymore, but you need to change the characters up a bit as time goes by, otherwise they get stagnant.

I'm gonna question the choice of Willis. He was crap once the league saw him the second time around and he never did anything to prove that he had their number.

You people are way too down on the show now. I thought it was great, aside from the somewhat odd last few minutes. I don't really know what you guys want, but I laughed many, many times and thought it was one of the better episodes we've seen recently. You're telling me that Homer writing to Die Hard wasn't funny? And the "Simpsons is just a Family Guy ripoff" lines are getting old. I love how you complain that the Simpsons is too over the top, but you love FG, which is just as over the top, if not more. Don't get me wrong, I love both shows, too, but the reasons I usually hear for the Simpsons not being funny are often the same things that FG is praised for. Don't even get me started on Futurama. You guys cut it way too much slack. You can blame "the man" for the show never taking off and I'll agree with you to a point that the show didn't really get a fair shake, but there's a reason that it's not known as the "next Simpsons," and simply put, it's because it never was good enough to be. Crapping on the Simpsons has become a past time around here, much like shitting all over WWE. Only difference is, one doesn't deserve it nearly as much.

I rarely watch SD these days, but whatever happened with the Cena/Eddy feud? It seemed like that was going to go on for a while. How many matches did they have?
-
I wouldn't mind it if the majority of that list wasn't back next year. Grudzielanek, Lofton, Goodwin, and Karros were the only ones who ever were really worth anything for the team, and even then, all of those guys are uncertain for next season.

I echo the statements made in this thread. If you're questioning a possible release in the future of something, there should be a question mark in the title or at least something that indicates a question in the sub-title.
-
i'm not so sure about it, this is Warner, they are known for not doing multiple releases and editions of the same movie. That's not me just assuming, I believe it was more or less confirmed after the released date of this edition was announced.

I expect them to abuse T3 the way they did with T2, only worse. Expect things like the Ultimate Extreme Tubular Ultra Special Edition of T3 before the dust clears. Also, Three's Company is so cheap because there's only six episodes on the disc. That's all of season one, though. Doesn't look to be any extras, either. I never liked the show, so I'll pass.
-
I'd suggest everyone take a pass on the T3 DVD, as it was made known that there would be at least two or three editions of the damn thing before it was all said and done.
-
I'd check it out, but $10 for 90 minutes is a bit steep.

The fact that he went apeshit over his son allegedly being denied of a fun-sized Snickers bar speaks volumes on this guy's mental state.

Reds Outfielder Dernell Stenson murdered
Bruiser Chong replied to Rob E Dangerously's topic in Sports
I'll agree with you, Al, but perhaps it was a race thing. Is the suspect they have white? If so, then it'd probably point towards a race thing, as this whole scenario sounds a lot like other hate crimes. -
Not sure if the Homer Becomes Death segment was a TZ takeoff, but the last segment of the night certainly was, as there was an episode featuring a man who had a watch that could stop time, but ended up dropping and breaking it after freezing time.

I think the comparison is just that they're both pretty annoying when compared to their surrounding cast of characters.

And not everything on the Simpsons is a Family Guy ripoff. Everyone acts like just because the Simpsons put stuff that's so out there, it's because they're ripping off FG. I'd say it's obvious that they've been influenced by the show, but then again, one could say that all the pop culture references on FG is just ripping off the Critic, who was doing all of that stuff back in 1994. Let's just agree that every show that comes down the pike, whether it's animated or not, has its influences from other shows.

Jesus, that's so messed up. I can't wait for them to catch whoever did this, not just because some bit of justice will be served, but then, maybe we'll find out why someone would go and do all of this to a guy who was most likely minding his own business. -
Exactly. Seth has moved onto other projects and hasn't been waiting around for someone to put Family Guy back into production, so people should prolly just accept that while it was a great show, it'll always be one of those that was cut off too soon. And I really get tired of the Simpsons-bashing that happens everytime this show's brought up. Yes, they've obviously taken some elements from Family Guy, but guess what? So did Family Guy. The big oaf with all the hilarious lines with an understanding wife...where did I see that? Oh yeah, the Simpsons. The Simpsons is obviously not what it used to be, but I'd really like to see what Family Guy would've been like had it gone FIFTEEN seasons.
-
The show isn't going to be back brought to life, despite high ratings. Creator Seth MacFarlane said that he's pretty much moved on to other things and doesn't really have an interest in starting the series up again. The most you could hope for is a Family Guy movie, which would be released only on DVD. One being made was pretty heavy talk a few months back so I think it's a possibility, but I doubt we'll ever see the revival of the series.

Last I heard, Lucas had no intentions of releasing the original editions, despite the incredible backlash against the fans for that call. But they're not important, now are they? His justification is that the SE are how he always invisioned the original three movies to be, but for the obvious reasons, they couldn't be up to par with those visions. Because of advances in technology, his vision was able to finally come true (or so he claims). If he's smart (which I doubt more and more as time goes by) he'll release both versions of each film, in different sets, of course, and take advantage of how much money stupid fanboys are willing to blow.

Not like baseball's taken seriously in the US when it comes to the Olympic Games, anyway, otherwise you'd see some big names there, like with basketball.

I don't know what it says about our society that a (seemingly) all around good guy, can be not only murdered with no good reason, but murdered in a torturous fashion. A murder's still a murder, but I always find it much disturbing when the killer drags it out for a long while, as it would indicate that he's getting a personal pleasure out of it, whereas other murders are almost spur of the moment, and the guy doesn't even have a chance to realize what he's doing. Disturbing news, though. People are shit. -
Who said anything about Kerry Wood? Many pitchers who've had the surgery have come back and eventually felt stronger than ever, with several of them pitching a better game, as well. Of course not everyone's going to be better after it, but it seems that it's really been an assest as far as pitchers are concerned.
