My god, will someone please explain this to him? Perhaps with the aid of finger puppets? I like to watch baseball and while I don't wish to or have to watch every game, there's no reason a game that goes nine innings should approach the four-hour mark. If it does, then maybe they should have an earlier starting time for these games. A lot of people have to get up to work or go to school in the morning. They shouldn't invest two or three hours into a game and then have to find out about the outcome the next day because Jose Molina's fat ass wanted to talk to his pitcher 12 times during an at-bat. The whole "don't like it, don't watch it" line is a cop-out to the obvious issue of overly-long game times.

I don't find either team terribly compelling anymore. Yes, both are developing some of their own players, but for the most part, this rivalry has degraded into a pissing contest. I'm hoping the Rays continue to improve, because I'd love to see some fresh rivalries flourish in the AL East. Obviously nothing is going to match or at least be as hyped as the Sox/Yanks, but I think we've got a good shot at seeing some new storylines develop in the coming years.

My god, what a retort! Like Smues said, you're missing the point. I watched the early parts of the game because I love to watch baseball. I do not, however, love to watch baseball games that are ground to a near-halt so frequently and run four hours without the need for extra innings. I stopped watching for a while, started up again, and then called it quits when they were only in the fifth inning at like 10:30 p.m. This isn't a Red Sox or Yankees thing, so quit trying to make it one. It's not a Yankee/Red Sox thing to me either. You don't see me complaining about how sucky the Pirates/Giants game was because I'm not seeking out to watch it. You like baseball, fine, but that doesn't mean you're forced to watch every single game out there. Don't watch the game. No one is forcing you to. Added emphasis for those with reading comprehension issues.

I like to watch most teams play, partly because I love the game and also because it's nice to watch a game without risk of cardiac arrest. In my years of subscribing to the Extra Innings package, the NL West games were the only ones that really bored me on a regular basis.

I love how some of the Yankees and Red Sox fans are taking this personally, as if we wouldn't complain if it were taking two other teams four hours to play nine innings of baseball.
-
It's also the type of game that lends credibility to the argument that baseball is an uneventful, plodding sport.

This is absurd. I turned the game on, expecting it to at least be in the latter innings and it's only the FOURTH? Please. I hate these games.

The Cubs had no business winning that game, but what an exciting last two innings. I'll never know how Lee made that pick to send the game to extra frames. I'm sure we'll hear plenty about the DeRosa homer since a run determined the outcome.

I know, I was just trying to justify stealing. Now my face is red. Thanks.

This week's thread has been lacking. Is that a result of the subpar games or is just that none of us know what to say anymore?

Shut up, Al. Don't you know Marvin's a victim of circumstance?
-
Take it to the NASCAR thread, Marvin.

I think this is the Horowitz/Blue Angel match that was on that Best of WWF comp set that was floating around the 'net a couple years back.

What thing record shops and the like can't provide me with are instrumentals for full albums. Thanks to torrents, I'm currently enjoying instrumentals from the complete Aquemini album. And it's glorious.

And I'm totally using the "it has an oakey afterbirth" line the next time I drink wine.

I'd probably buy a lot more, but there's only one record shop left in the area. My mom knows the owners quite well and I like to stop in a pick up vinyl and the occasional used CD. But support your mom and pop businesses be damned, I just can't shell out MSRP for anything. I do live within driving distance of Ann Arbor and Lansing, though, so I don't have many excuses not to hit them up except for the fantastic gas prices.

Perhaps the most bizarre episode of the series. Not great for laughs, but I'm looking at these episodes with the mindset that they need to cram a half a season's worth of storylines into six episodes.

Yeah, but why would anyone care about your fantasy team? Or anyone else's? As for Bush, blame Ned. Bush has shown a tendency to be lousy after the fifth inning, yet Ned opts to wait until the wheels fall off. What the hell did the Brewers spend all that money on their bullpen if Ned is going to do that?

Oh my god. Tell me Juelz isn't rapping over a sped-up "You Oughta Know."
-
The Cubs and Pirates will play approximately 45 innings in this three-game series.
-
The O's start off strong every year, but Marvin seems to be the only fan on the 'net who reads too much into that.

I'm currently in a phase where I'm seeing most of my close friends either getting into serious relationships or taking existing relationships to the next level. My best friend will likely propose to his girlfriend of four years later this year; one close friend who's in the Air Force is trying to sustain a long-distance relationship with his woman, meaning they're together the few days he's home every so often; another friend got out of a long-time, live-in relationship, only to get into another relationship right away (the latter is partially responsible for the former), and yet another friend just moved in with his girlfriend, although his other friends and I aren't sure that was the wise move. And to top it off, my younger brother is getting married in August to a girl he's been involved with for less than a year. So yeah, changes a plenty. I've got a pretty wide network of people I'd throw in the "close friends" category, so I haven't been hurting for extra curricular activities. It is weird, though, to see some of these changes taking place. Everyone mentioned here's between 22 and 24; not necessarily young, but hell, not old enough to be settling down? Right? Maybe I just missed the memo that informed us our life expectancies are once again in the mid-30s.

Wild one in Pittsburgh as the Cubs have squandered an early 7-0 lead through those base-clogging walks and some shoddy infield defense.

Well, in fairness Bourn is crazy fast. It wasn't that deep of a flyball.
