    The 2008 MLB Predictions Thread

I won't declare victory for the Cubs already, since we all remember what happened the last time they were the fashionable division pick (2004). But I can't see that shitty rotation the Cards are going to be pushing out there being enough to get the job done. I'm tempted to say I'll eat a hat if they finish within five games of first.

    Monday Night Wars

Can anyone confirm if this was Ahmed's one and only appearance with the Nation? I said earlier I didn't remember much, if anything, he did after joining the Nation. Seeing him get hurt in his first appearance with the group would explain a lot of that. We aren't too far off from The Rock joining, are we? I seem to remember it happening during the summer.

Skip Bayless has the Cardinals winning the NL Central. I don't need to add anything to that.

    Recording Programs

I don't tape anything. That would likely change if I owned a DVD recorder, but I have no interest in amassing a stack of VHS tapes I probably won't watch. A spindle of DVDs, on the other hand, wouldn't be cause for space concerns. And while it's nice to see a lot of this stuff again or for the first time, I can't imagine really having a need for most of it on VHS or DVD.

    WrestleMania VIII

Kudos for knowing people that would sit through an old ppv. It's nice, albeit something I don't advertise outside of venues such as this. Only one of us still watches the current product, but we all grew up on this era, so I don't need to pull teeth to make these gatherings happen. I did tempt fate when we watched Survivor Series '90 damn near in its entirety.

    Spring Training 2008

He'd be an upgrade. And then there's always Sean Marshall, who isn't very good, but is also an upgrade from Eyre. I'm still not entirely sure how Dempster had all but secured a spot in the rotation before ST even started.

Emil Brown must've graduated from the Moises Alou School of Baserunning. And look at that. Cost them at least the tie.

    WrestleMania VIII

I had a few friends over to watch this yesterday. We got to the Hart/Piper match when the show froze up and just restarted. It's only an eight-dollar monthly service, but it's frustrating how frequently 24/7 is plagued with technical problems with our cable provider. Foreseeing something like this, though, I had my Coliseum Video copy nearby and ready to roll. It's funny how fondly I remember this show. There are two legitimately great matches here, but a lot of the undercard stuff is uneventful. From a technical standpoint, it's a two-match show with some fun commentary and a great atmosphere. And since we watched the CV version, we were treated to the disclaimer after the show about how the Bulldog/Berzerker match was canceled due to circumstances beyond their control.

    Wrestlemania IX

I've seen this too many times for such a mediocre show. I'd wear my PPV VHS copy out as a kid for some reason. If anything, the show serves as evidence for just how bland the Fed's roster was at this point. There's that weird transition where the WWF started to lose some of their more popular mainstays (Hogan, LOD, Warrior) and the company didn't have the resources to immediately replace them.

What are you listening to right now?

Wyclef Jean - Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill) Okay, so I probably shouldn't like this song, but it's gotten stuck in my head over the last few weeks. In these cases, the result is either insanity or continuous play. In this instance, it's been the latter. And I hate to say that, because I don't think I've even remotely liked a song with Akon in three or four years.

    Legends Programming

Yes, so long as they can avoid focusing only on the really obvious ones. The Gobblygooker was terrible, yes, but there's been too much emphasis on him considering his stint with the company lasted an entire evening.

    Happy St. Patricks Day!

Agreed. I went along with the whole "St. Paddy's Day is the 15th this year" thing because I preferred to waste a Saturday drinking and not a fucking Monday. As everything went down, it was three nights of fairly heavy drinking and I'm ready for a break. Natch, I've got a friend calling me making it sound like I'm betraying a family member by not coming out for more drinks tonight. Doesn't anybody have god damn school or work tomorrow?

    Spring Training 2008

I've got more of an issue with Ryan Dempster having a spot in the starting rotation to lose. He's not the best guy to close, but I can't be the only one who remembers how he fell into the closer's spot in the first place, can I?

    Legends Programming

Disappointing LOW show. It's difficult to encompass 23 shows amongst five lively individuals within an hour time frame, but this was a disjointed LOW program, second only to the territories episode. Having Mean Gene there made sense, but he wasn't a very strong moderator. There are way too many open-ended portions of this episode. I'm disappointed every time someone is cut off, because I know they aren't going to end up finishing what they were saying. And I understand they have to cover their bases with the usual Mania retrospective items (i.e. Vince rolled the dice on the first one, Steamboat/Savage stole the show, etc.), but I'm tired of those stories. I want some backstage stories we haven't heard. We've got a guy who's been part of all 23 Wrestlemanias, someone who was directly involved in the first nine, a guy who's worked backstage at several, and two who've performed on the show and the best we get is the Warrior crying?

I'm pretty sure Heenan asked, "You get all that just for joining?" before telling Gorilla to hand him the phone.

    A 24/7 Subfolder

I'm in favor. I enjoy the monthly threads, but it can get congested with all the content 24/7 throws at the viewers certain months. Ideally, I think a thread dedicated to each section every months (i.e. Legends for April 2008) would work best.

    WWE 24/7 Discussion - March 2008

That Dynamite/Bret match in the Legends section is fantastic, too. It's on the British Bulldogs video released by Coliseum Video, but I hadn't seen it in eight years. Fast-paced and stiff.

    WWE 24/7 Discussion - March 2008

His career was getting stagnant at that point, anyway. I never noticed it as a kid, but it's crazy how sloppy Ahmed was. I know that was a point of contention with a lot of his co-workers back then. I honestly don't have any concrete memories of Ahmed after he was in the Nation. I know he started wearing black, but I don't recall anything he did with the group or the company from this point on. Then again, a TON of this stuff has seemed like new viewing to me. Granted, it's 11 years later and I was only 12 or 13 when most of this was happening. But outside of the Hart Foundation angle, I recall almost nothing from these shows to the point where I don't think I even knew who Rob Van Dam was until 1999.

Len and Bob have actually grown on me. Len actually gives a shit about those nutty stats such as OBP and VORP. And Bob makes me chuckle at least a few times during each game. They've got a good rapport with each other, too. And for what it's worth, Hairston and Dusty clashed in Chicago.

Yep. I bought The Show last year, fell in love with it for two months, and haven't played it since.
