I wish another team was able to put together a package for Santana. I get bored with all of talks like these almost always exclusively concerning Boston and the Yankees.

    Electric can openers

I started a post saying I've got an electric can opener and then explained why it wasn't because I was lazy, but then I realized I couldn't really conjure up a good reason.

    The Dark Knight

Yes. I'm a little concerned about getting too caught up in the hype, but then I keep waiting to see a new shred of material that suggests this won't live up to it.

Mr. Perfect's an awful commentator. He takes arrogance to new heights, which is inexcusable, since he hadn't wrestled in two years by that point. His reaction to Shawn Michaels' pop is embarrassing.

Oh my, you couldn't be more wrong on that front. This is what The Joker should look like.

All of your baseball-related questions for Al should go here. That is, assuming Al chooses to endorse this thread.

    Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 6

Uh, no. This is Larry David we're talking about, the same guy who was disgusted by the idea of petting that dog or letting it sit in your lap. Suddenly he's going to stick animals up his ass? Get real.

What are you going to buy this Dark Friday?

I got up at 3:30 a.m. Friday to head over to JCPenney, which opened its doors at 4 a.m., and get a 10-burger Foreman grill for $45 with $10 MIR. Normal was $100, I've been looking for a bigger indoor grill, and since I knew exactly what I wanted and where it would be, I had paid for the grill by 4:10 a.m. I was able to make it home by quarter to 5 a.m. or so and get an extra couple hours sleep before work at 9 a.m. Other than that, I got Death Proof from Buy.com for $1.90. The deals this year weren't anything special, with the ever-decreasing price of standard DVD.

    WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - November 2007

Just finished the first part of Survivor Series '95 for the first time in maybe 10 years. Some notes: - I think someone mentioned it, but odd structure to have the first three matches won by the heel. It's all faces the rest of the way and I guess none of those later matches would make a lot of sense going on before the first three. They couldn't have tinkered with the outcomes, either, since Kid and Goldust were in obvious must-win positions. Blayze was on her way out by that point, wasn't she? That would explain the loss to Kong. - Hakushi may be sloppy, but I've yet to go back and watch one of his WWF matches that didn't have at least some redeeming qualities. Crowd loved his innovative spots, too. And man, did they miss the boat on Horowitz or what? The crowd adored the guy. It's a shame he didn't have that classic WWF look, because he was more than capable in the ring. - I love how The Undertaker assembled the shittiest team you could've constructed with that roster. When I think "dark side," I sure don't think of Puerto Ricans, fat Samoans "trying to make a difference" or a farmer. Thankfully, that stuff doesn't even matter, since the match was clearly a forum for Taker to return and throw down on his own, thus making a team of even decent quality unnecessary. - I laughed at the notion of a "royal dentist."

    WWE 24/7 Discussion Thread - November 2007

Probably the weakest Legends show I've seen. I think it's a mix of the topic and the fact that I didn't know half of the people they referenced. And does everyone in wrestling smoke? Yeesh. My favorite line of the show was in reference to Harley Race's left. "If I hit him with the left and he doesn't go down, I will walk around him and see what is holding him up."

How exactly does this signing address any of the Reds' more important needs? Their closer wasn't lights out, but he was hardly near the top of the team's problem list.

Do you have a close relationship with your family?

Immediate family, absolutely. My one uncle has done an admirable job filling the father figure role. The rest? Forget it. Bunch of self-serving, righteous assholes the majority of the time.

Early speculation is that it was a brain aneurysm. My mother suffered one last year and was lucky enough to survive and eventually, regain most of the personality traits that made her, well, her before that. My condolences.

    Christmas music

I can't be the only one who finds the Charlie Brown Christmas tunes to be a downer?

    Christmas music

I'd like to say "Wonderful Christmastime" is a strong candidate for Gayest Christmas Song. I'm convinced that it gets a pass or is actually enjoyed only because of the performer. "Santa Baby" proves that even Christmas can be saucy. I'm not a fan of Christmas music playing for nearly two months straight, but I'm more receptive to it this year. I couldn't bear to hear a single Christmas song last year (I'd just had a messy end to a long relationship). Something about the jovial tunes and being alone that don't really jive together.

I get what you're saying, but this is an example of what a different world athletes live in. How many people do you know that would think $12 million a year wouldn't be "enough" to support a family?

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread

Ok, so I overlooked the fact that last week's updates were almost non-existent. I checked just now and see that I have ONE item to choose from (TNT). What the hell?

    Wu-Tang in Concert

Has anyone seen them in concert the last couple of years? If so, how was the show? I got an email today letting me know they'll be in Detroit on Dec. 14 and despite my whiteness and the likelihood I (and whoever comes with me) won't exactly blend in, I'm considering snatching up a ticket. I know this place isn't hip-hop-friendly, but the Wu's one of the exceptions from what I've always seen, so I figure I can get some impartial responses.

Cubs are allegedly close to offering KAZ MATSUI a THREE-YEAR deal. This is what I can't stand about this team. It's hard enough to look past their inability to develop a positional player who is any good, but they love chasing after mediocre talent with top dollars.

    Wu-Tang in Concert

I think he just means trying to hard to fit in or seem "hip," to borrow a phrase no one uses seriously anymore. At any rate, Czech, you know I lubs you and all, but this is one of those topics I can't possibly take your suggestion on.

    The Office: Season 4

I can't possibly dislike an episode that has Creed demanding peach cobbler and then wolfing down an entire pan of said cobbler later on? I loved the subtleties of Jim channeling Michael while in charge; from the way he looked up at a couple of points to the talking head at Michael's desk. Maybe I read too much into it, but it seems like they're leading to something with Jim realizing/dealing with the idea he's not leaving this company any time soon. And what, no love for the Battlestar Galatica sweatshirt?

    The Writer's Strike

I'm pretty disgusted at the thought of having waited four months for new episodes of The Office, only to eventually get a grand total of eight. The idea of more reality TV makes me want to get reacquainted with DVD.

    American Gangster

I'd give Crowe the nod over Denzel. Frank Lucas is portrayed as a refined cat with a stoic demeanor and habitual bursts of violence. That's fine and all, but it really just meant a lot of Denzel mean-mugging in snappy suits.
  25. Bruiser Chong

    American Gangster

Excellent acting, but the movie isn't Oscar material. I never felt it was too long in the sense I wasn't hoping it would end. Still, this could've been trimmed here and there and not suffered as a result. Considering the source material, there's a lot more they could've done with Frank Lucas' character. And for the slow build the movie's got, the last portion really feels rushed.
