2008 NLCS: Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Bruiser Chong replied to KingPK's topic in Sports
And just to kill the issue before it snowballs, I'm not saying the Dodgers are a bad team. They're not. But they're not really that good. They're hot right now and truthfully, that's all that matters at this point. But let's not fool ourselves and act like they aren't here because they played in an awful division where the only realistic competition had been on a downward spiral since May. -

No need to since Howard hasn't done a damn thing all October and Burrell is en route to securing the Golden Sombrero before the seventh inning stretch. -

No, I'm saying they're an inferior team to the Phillies and they looked like it for the first third of this game. I don't deny the Cubs shit the bed in the NLDS, but you can't argue that LA is truly better than them or Philly. And I'll retain that view, even if the Dodgers get to the World Series. -

Yeah, it's as if the Dodgers aren't really that good of a team. But they won an astounding 84 games during the regular season, so we know that can't possibly be it. -

Christ, his mother must've been the last Confederate widow. -

Well, the first two outs were crushed. I think the Phillies' relative lack of starting pitching will make this an interesting series. -

Well that was predictable. I wouldn't mind the Phillies winning the series, but I'll be upset if it's a sweep or 4-1 series. I want something compelling. -

Part of me wants the Phillies to win because they are the better team and Al's good people. The other part of me wants the Dodgers to win to lessen the blow of the Cubs having their heads stomped in. McCarver already with a gem tonight: Ruiz usually sucks those balls up. -
Rotten fruit or vegetables are the worst for me. Leave some apple cores, banana peels, and spinach at the bottom of your trash can and sit back as the ensuing odor takes over your home. There was a strong odor in my kitchen once and I couldn't find the source for days. I was later cleaning the counter, moved a stray pot lid and voila, odor found: two bananas that had become so rotten that the skin had broke open, allowing some terrific brown liquid to squirt out.

There's a lot to complain about here, but it's all about subjectivity in the end. My biggest gripe is "Hard Knock Life" not just being #11, but even cracking this list. Please. I'm sure mainstream appeal played a part in the selections here (how could any list like this featuring Nelly and N*E*R*D not be), but that track isn't even the best thing off of that album.

I don't understand that logic at all. The replay shows pretty clearly that he made the tag and then fell to the ground, which caused him to lose the ball. It wasn't as if the ball flew from his glove as he made the swipe.

Not to mention it was a 2-0 count. Those first two pitches weren't anywhere close. Personally, if I'm committed to the idea of a squeeze, I take one more pitch to see if he throws a strike or not. If it's a ball, there's a real chance Aybar ends up walking. Figgins is up next and the chances of him hitting into a twin-killing aren't high. In the end, it was a case of over-managing. Though you aren't promised the run if you have a guy at third with less than two outs, there's a very good chance you'll get him in more times than not. The certain departure of K-Rod, along with the very real chance Tex, Vlad, and Anderson aren't there will probably do that. Though, I think if I'm the Angels, I let K-Rod and Anderson walk and allocate that money to Tex. I'd say the Angels' window of serious contention ended tonight, but since they play in the West, their chances remain good.

I agree with your first two sentences. I'm very perplexed by the third. Lester's amazing. Dice-K is a five or six-inning pitcher. Beckett's the real X factor here. If his outing last night was just rust, then the Sox are in a good position. Who's their fourth starter?
-
No way. You've got a guy at third with one out in the ninth inning of a tied game. You get that run in, you set yourself up to go home for a decisive game. Why try to squeeze against a guy who throws 97 MPH? Just get a damn fly ball. Because all it takes is making contact. Aybar did some weird shit, jabbing at the ball instead of trying to make contact. Willits is fast enough that he would've scored. That pussy ass shit style of play you're calling for would have seen him pop out or some shit. I would definitely have taken my chances with the squeeze. And I don't get your first few sentences. The squeeze is to get the run in. Yes, because the squeeze worked so well. I don't see how trying to make bunt contact with a guy who's throwing gas is easier than getting a fly ball. Even if you pop out, you've still got the guy at third and one more chance to get him in. Botch the squeeze and you have nobody on with two outs.

I'll probably jinx it, but I think the Rays have a great shot at advancing to the World Series. Boston was neck-and-neck with the Angels, who played like morons the majority of the series. And I don't think much of the Sox rotation.

And another stupid play by the Angels gets them the boot. Seriously, what was he doing trying to dive for that?
-
All I heard about the Angels all season was how they do all the right things and blah, blah, blah. Yet, they've played some of the most fundamentally unsound baseball in the playoffs this side of the Cubs.

Last week's episode was very good and didn't suffer from excessive "This is worse than the time..." jokes. I also liked how Peter was a bit player in that episode. He gets irritating if he dominates too much of the show. I stopped watching this week's after the second act. Outside of the Office Space bit, this was doing anything for me. McFarlane has this habit of incorporating his personal beliefs on certain subjects into FG and then beating you over the head with it. I don't necessarily disagree with him on most matters, but this method often makes for a preachy show with an agenda.

Why not? The game's happening on the East Coast.

God damn, this is reaching Yanks/Red Sox duration.

Congrats to the Phillies. It's a shame teams from the same division can't play in the first round. A Cubs/Brewers postseason series would've been a blast.

This is probably the worst content, wrestling-wise, I've seen on PTW since originally subscribing to the channel in 2007. They obviously didn't want anyone watching the Survivor Series to miss anything even remotely important. How about Bobby Heenan breaking out a "that's what she said" almost 20 years before it became a huge quote? Gorilla shouldn't have stretched that Bundy figure out so much. It made for a disturbing visual.

Well, at least he didn't wait until the fourth.
