Suppan isn't the innings-eater he's been built up to be. He never reached 200 innings with the Cardinals and aside from his playoff run, he was pretty lousy last year. I think the Brewers are going to regret to the contract, especially considering he's going to a hitter's park with a poor defense behind him.

Well damn. Our annual family predictions produced ONE correct prediction for 2006. One day after the start of the 2007 one and there's already a correct guess. R.I.P., Gerald. You've helped push my uncle one step closer towards collecting the winner's pot.

I feel sort of bad for making a joke about Drago killing Brown while we watched Rocky IV the other night.

I'd stay away from any Wal-Mart TVs, even if they are name brands. I recall reading they're able to offer them for cheaper prices because the sets are made up of inferior/older parts.

I thought the whole idea of moving Garcia was to open a spot for McCarthy?

I...don't know. I left the computer after posting, so I was still technically in the thread when I came back later. I did hit the refresh button, so maybe that explains it. And Dontrelle's probably the last guy I'd suspect to be busted on such charges.

Yeah, he was pretty terrible in the '03 NLCS and World Series.

Striking out the side on nine pitches: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitchers_who_...on_nine_pitches 4 strikeouts in an inning: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/feats/feats19.shtml I remember that game where Hawkins struck out the side on nine pitches in the ninth. The Cubs had looked dead offensively all afternoon (surprise) before rallying in the 8th and getting the tying and go-ahead runs off of Mota and Benetiz when they were still almost unhittable. Then Hawkins came down and totally pwned the Marlins in the 9th. It was huge at the time, considering the WC race. Of course, we all remember how that turned out.

My god, is that what he really looks like? He'd better have a successor already lined up.

The obvious way to build a winning roster is to have a superstar at every position. It's worked well for the Yankees.

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with that series.

That sounds so Cubs.

So everyone you went to school with was capable of being an actor?

If this bothers you, maybe Giles isn't the guy you want, either.

The whole idea of this is that up until the shooting goes down, it's just another typical, uneventful day. Yeah, that's not going to appease the masses, but that's what the long tracking shots of so many characters, some minor, others not, were there for. But yeah, anyone who doesn't like this will want to stay away from both Gerry and Last Days, since both have minimal dialogue and extended shots.
-
Naturally, this will be one second baseman the Cubs don't pursue.
-
I'm sure if it had been an hour and a half of shooting, more people would have liked it. God forbid anyone try something different.

I don't think Marquis is as bad as his 2006 ERA indicates, since he had two atrocious starts that pumped it up. Still, I don't see why there's a need to go three years on a guy who didn't seem to be getting any interest for a one-year deal. This also concerns me, since it suggest that if by some miracle of god, Prior and Miller are ever healthy at the same time, what becomes of Rich Hill? Not that we'll have to worry about such matters, but it's something to think about.
-
And the Cubs take a guy who no one wanted and give him a three-year deal for $20 million. Superb. I was just thinking they didn't have enough guys who rarely saw the sixth inning.
-
Although you might be right, you probably don't know who they are either. I live and grew up in Michigan. I wish you were right.

Good thing the Astros dumped all that money for Carlos Lee!

This is one of those moves I don't understand unless it is a minor league deal. Marquis isn't worth one of those five starting rotation spots at all. Unless he has some magic hiding somewhere that he hasn't shown, I really don't understand. I'm actually hearing three years, but pray that's just talk based on nothing of substance, since the Cubs are seemingly the only team interested in the guy.

Jason Marquis is reportedly close to signing with the Cubs. I hate Jim Hendry. I guess the fact that Marquis couldn't even secure a playoff roster spot on a team that included Jeff Weaver says nothing. I was reminded of why I don't go to the MLB Cubs board too often. One chap is citing Marquis' WS ring as a reason to get him.
