Oh, Bob Howry.
-
It's extremely irritating. I don't mind a back-and-forth game, but when it's a result of missing the strike zone, it gets grating, especially by the ninth hour.
-
Everyone will overlook the fact that Zambrano was basically throwing him a meatball to avoid walking his fourth straight batter.
-
Look at the bright side Met fans: at least Omar didn't hastily decide to give Luis Castillo a multi-year deal.

I think we should get weekly weight updates in the eight weeks that follow the conclusion of the diet.

Congrats are in order for the Cubs. A couple of low points in the season, but other than that, there's been little to complain about. I can finally say I know what it's like to root for a great team, even if it's only this year.

I knew that by 3 p.m. EST today!

Don't think I've got it, Al. Unless you're I Lost My Thrill on Glenallen Hill, which is my new favorite handle over at BBTF.
-
Gorilla: Virgil's picking up a lot of debris from Madison Square Garden's floor. Heenan: He's a janitor here? (Before Heenan can finish his sentence) Gorilla: He is not!

Brain's got some gems on this week's PTW. "You've got the Young Stallions with 310 teeth between the two of them." (referring to Savage wearing a black and white stripe shirt) "Look, he's got on Patera's old shirt." "And if you don't own a TV, you have no idea what I'm talking about." Gorilla: Call your cable provider and tell them you want to be a part of Survivor Series. Heenan: And if you live in Guam, just yell "Hey!"

My god, the Twins just might capitalize on a White Sox loss. I can't remember the last time that happened.

I stopped paying attention to the game after the Cubs went down against Gagne in only four pitches. I didn't even bother to check for a final score and was unaware of all the dramatics until I got online a few minutes ago. That Soto shot was a BOMB. Cubs deserved to lose that one, though. Rich Harden proved you can throw almost 40 pitches in one inning and only give up a run and no hits. Nine free passes in all, the Cubs were hacking away, and there were some defensive plays from the Cubs that belonged on the cutting room floor. I'll take it, though.

God, they don't let any of these matches go less than 10 minutes, do they? The world was just dying for that epic Warlord/Jim Brunzell match, I'm sure. Funny how they build up Warlord as having such a bright future when he was basically a dead man walking w/r/t his time in the Fed.

That Rumble never happened.
-
Ben Sheets left with alleged forearm tightness tonight, but he revealed afterward that his elbow has been bothering him for some time. There it is.
-
The Rumble is probably the peak of Monsoon and Heenan's collective work. The Bushwhackers/Beverly Brothers is incredibly long, but Heenan drops some absolute gems in there. He and Monsoon were often at their best during the train-wreck caliber matches.

Same here. I made it through the entire 9/91 show without doing any fast-forwarding, though I did skip the main all together. My only gripe here is Heenan using a lot of material he used during Wrestlemania VIII. I actually find him a bit redundant with certain lines at times. That's tough for me to admit, since he's my all-time favorite wrestling personality.
-
I've rambled on about this match at every wrestling-related board I've been a part of. I'll probably be watching it again with some friends this week, though the match itself is absolutely burned into my mind, almost frame-for-frame. My favorite moment of the Rumble is the one no one's mentioned yet: the cluttered ring starts to clear, ending with the Boss Man slinging over the ropes after a missed charge, leaving Flair alone in the ring, crumpled over from exhaustion. Heenan declares Flair the winner of the Rumble, though Monsoon is quick to point out we've only reached the halfway mark. Cue the timer and out comes Piper. Awesome.

IRS is the laziest wrestler to get a push the WWF had in the early '90s. I have never seen one great singles match with him involved. His matches follow the same pattern: stall a lot, work the abdominal stretch in there, and use at least one other rest hold for a long time. I'm not impressed by him seemingly being a part of every time limit draw the company had in the early '90s. It's a result of tons of stalling and rest holds.
-
There should be no postseason role for him. I can appreciate the two quality years he gave the team, but he's done nothing worth warranting a playoff roster spot this season. He's got the experience factor and that's about it.

Piniella has lost his god damn mind. On the heels of two days off, a no-hitter, and starters taking the team seven and six innings deep, respectively, the first guy out the chute in a one-run game against the Brewers is...Bob Howry? He of an ERA of almost 5.50?

That'd be quite the statement by the Cubs to not only hand Sabathia his first NL loss, but do so the day after the front office removed the club's biggest perceived flaw. Houston lost, so maybe they haven't shook the trauma of playing a home game dominated by Cubs fans. Or maybe they just aren't that good. I expect to see quite a few "the sky is falling" posts from Mets fans in a few minutes. It'll be with good reason, too, I suppose. The Nats are quite the spoilers, aren't they?
-
He'd walked five and struck out four last I checked; the bottom line at that point was good, but the command looked like it was still something of an issue.

In retrospect, the cause of the Austin/McMahon feud was all on Austin. And I don't remember Rock ever looking so downright FAT.

I'd like to see Dontrelle get it back together. I took a bit of a twisted pleasure in his early demise because of my desire to see the heavily touted (around here, especially) Tigers tank. But he's always come off as one of those genuinely good guys who just loves the game. His line isn't very impressive tonight, unfortunately.
