The Torch website has been running THREE reviews of NWATNA every week!!!
-
Fridays. 1 or 2 hours? 1 Hour.
-
Fridays.
-
Sod them, I'm not home and that's all that matters

That's like a 1.5 million loss over the course of a year, not counting payroll, production costs and the weekly PPV losses! Fuck me, how rich are these Panda folks ?
-
I'll pass on this one, nothing of any real interest there.
-
Welcome back man.

I hated all the bullshit 'this fed will be dead within x-amount of days' nonsense that went before but looking at where things are now...and...well...dead company walking.

"D'Amore explained that the 50% deposit that is required immediately upon booking a TNA talent would act as a guarantee for independent promoters and TNA wrestlers both. The promoters would now have a guarantee that "NWA: TNA PPV talent" would appear. In the event of a no-show, the complete deposit would be returned to the promoter." Um. That makes no sense. How does this deposit act as a guarantee for any promoter that a particular talent will show up ? I'm also suspect of that talk about TNA getting involved in the wrestler's travelling plans given Ryders involvement in that very industry. The more I read on this, the more it looks like a cheap money grab by a company drowning in debt and about to incure an extra 30k a week expense.

The multi-person suplex yoke had me giggling for the rest of the show, looked so stupid. Perfectly acceptable show, still think they're idiots for blowing AJ/Killings and AJ/Raven over the course of two weeks though.
-
It's a tricky one for NWATNA. The WWE provides eight hours of original programming (per brand) leading up to a three hour PPV once a month. I don't think you can run much continuity between a one hour tv slot and a two hour PPV show every week. Especially when your TV show is positioned at such an awful time. I honestly don't know what way they should go. Realistically they have to go all out and get decent ratings so they get a deal where they're not paying for the show.

I'm a working man and I do enjoy me more than a few beers on a Friday night so I won't be seeing it.
-
Dude, your post seems to be based on the idea that any kind of payment in advance is standard practive for indy promotions in the US - it isn't! There's no way in hell that any advance payment would be made without the understanding that it's an advance refundable in the event of a show not going ahead.
-
TNA gets paid up front but the wrestler doesn't see any money till after the date!! This shit can't be right. Didn't the muppets READ their contracts before signing them ?
-
I'm with BPS on this one, it sounds like they're only charging for dates booked through TNA, which makes sense as they're serving as an agent for the talent in question. Well, it makes sense to a degree, this half up front thing sounds a bit suspect to me.
-
Pretty much - the Heel Section actually paid for their tickets too, which made them something of a rarity at NWATNA shows.
-
Ah yes, NWATNA, they listen to their fans don't you know. And if they don't like what they hear from them, they get rid of im.

OAO NWA-TNA PPV Thread - 04/28/04

IDIOTS. First, they do Styles/JJ with no build-up and no advertising. Then, to show how fucking clueless they are, they follow-up with Styles/Killings - AGAIN with no build-up or advertising. Fucking. Morons. These idiots don't have a clue how to make money. Giving Raven a shot next week is also silly - put some build into it. At this rate, JJ will have the belt back in three weeks as Styles will have blown through all the challengers. -
Well if TNA go for the Friday deal I'll probably call it a day - I work and then head out most Friday nights and I'm presuming that the FSN show will serve as build-up for the PPVs. Sunday morning is hardly ideal but I can drag my arse out of bed if need be.
-
If true, this is disappointing news.
-
I'm still trying to figure out the logic behind putting this match on with no build-up, especially given the amount of effort that was put into getting Harris to this stage! The best I can come up with is that this is a sop to AJ for being pull of ROH shows. Even still, could they not have put it off for a week and ADVERTISED it in ADVANCE ?
-
I honestly can't believe how wrong-headed this whole move was. If they'd built to AJ/JJ in a cage the exact same way they'd built to Harris/JJ then tonight would have done a really good buyright. I just don't get the thinking here. Having said that, the match itself wasn't really up to much, so maybe it's just as well that it didn't have a big build up!

From the PWInsider - http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=1342&p=1 AJ Styles, who currently holds the ROH Pure Wrestling championship, was approached last week by NWA: TNA officials and asked to "distance himself from ROH," according to several sources. Styles, who has praised Ring of Honor publicly and has stood with the promotion in the wake of the Rob Feinstein situation, reportedly turned down the request and was not happy with being asked to turn down future ROH bookings. Styles is scheduled for dates with ROH through the summer. It is believed the request given to Styles will be given to other contracted TNA performers shortly. There are a number of workers who appear for both companies including Chris Sabin, The Amazing Red, Christopher Daniels, CM Punk, Raven, Jerry Lynn, and AJ Styles. TNA does have a number of their performers under contract, primarily to prevent WWE talent raids (wording in NWA: TNA contracts specifically prevents performers from working for World Wrestling Entertainment) as they build the company. There was talk several months ago internally about asking talent not to work ROH, but it never went past the discussion stage as talent was never approached. Around that same time, TNA squashed a planned Raven vs. CM Punk hair vs. hair match that would have led to Punk shaving Raven's head in ROH. TNA instead decided to use the angle for themselves, leading to Shane Douglas being the one who got to shave Raven's hair.

He could've given a bit more notice, but otherwise I've no problem with Brock calling it a day. He's a young man in his prime health wise, if he's not happy with his choice in career then he's doing the smart thing by looking for a new one before he's just another broken down old man like half of the current roster.
-
I don't think he has anything of worth to offer the company, no.
