What is one film you think that every body should see at least once in their life?
One of my favourite films is Cross of Iron, its a war film about the Germany retreat from Crimea in 1943. Its different from most war films because its concentrates on the Germans and shows the feelings of the ordinary men in the trenches, and portrays most of the German forces in a sympathtic light.
Its quite simply one of the best anti-war movies ever made, the sense of futility as these men fight and die is overwhelming, thanks in part to the great cast (James Coburn, Maximillen Schnell, James Mason to name a few)
In fact as Sgt. Stenier this is probably James Coburns best performance. The last scene where the the Russians overrun the HQ as Stenier laughs at the carnage around him is simply brilliant.
Does anyone else have a film they think everyone should see?
