Different atmosphere and style. Buffy always seemed to deal with a group of friends that reminded you of kids. Especially since you watched them since they were in High School. So the show had a more young feel to it. Angel on the other hand had more adult minded characters and no high school years. So it had a more grown up feel to it. More serious and dark.
