WWE General Discussion - September 2008
DrVenkman PhD replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
It's interesting to watch the LHW Division's origins on Raw on 24/7 because they'd have guys like El Pantera do a completely different style of match than anything on the show, be awesome, then never be seen again. -
I'm glad you managed to fit in an "I hate Shawn Michaels" post into a thread about a 1996 WCW PPV, cabbageboy. If you can find a way to bring up why Randy Orton is awful in the NWA thread, we're all set.

He was ashamed wrestling fan in disguise. That's all we need to know about his thoughts on anything.
-
Makes sense. I thought the days of losing large ratings due to football were over (5.3 to 4.5, sure, but those people are all gone) but I know big football games still take a bite.
-
The rating was back to 3.0, so either that .5 increase that was going on during Punk's reign was JUST for him, or football cut the rating down.
-
We could just ask Bix.

Old threads from before April 9, 2008? Ok then. Here's something I saw while looking at which threads had the most views: Best Unintentional Comedy

Breaking news: Wrestler booked to lose match and title by storyline writers. MEMBERS ONLY. I believe Meltz mentioned on last night's audio update the Jericho win had been cooking for a week or so (but just one of many ideas).
-
Monsoon never fails to mention Heenan "selling Hercules down the river" no matter what year or face/heel alignment Herc has. I love it everytime.
-
I almost thought Boogeyman was coming out for a match with Santino. The opening note to Snitsky's music is very similar. Umaga is injured (and on SmackDown) but should be back shortly.

I don't know what's going on, but that was quite possibly the worst Mickie James match since her debut feud with Ashley. Everything was way off and Beth didn't even need to use a finisher to beat her. Lawler or Cole made a note that she was FINALLY getting a rematch - kind of pointing out she apparently wasn't important enough to get one on the Raw after SummerSlam - and with the match with Candace already announced, the result was never in doubt. The crowd seemed very disinterested in the show (but oddly popped pretty big for the announcement that another town was getting a world title match) but I was happy they got into the hour 1 main event. I was ready to call the bookers incredibly incompetent if the finish to that match was anything short of Bourne hitting his picture perfect SSP in front of the Raw viewing audience and thankfully they did the right thing. When Haas was locked in the trunk, I almost thought he would come out as Chief of Staff Orlando Jordan. Probably best they did CHL instead.

This is a true statement. I know Samoans love them some 3/4 length tights, but he could keep the color scheme and go the Samoa Joe shorts route and work with the rest of the group. Keep the madman hair though, I love me some mad man hair. It was so weird too, having this guy with wacky hair and Low Rent Umaga tights come out, then speak perfect English backstage. I'm not conditioned to that sort of thing in WWE.

This is key, because I don't think it ever once came up again after the fact (making the booking of it a bit baffling). Now would be a good time to integrate it.
-
I like E becoming business minded and turning into an Ari clone.
-
Jericho won the title by slipping on a banana peel. It's the execution of the follow-up that will determine how good this turns out for him (and based on the Shawn stuff, I expect 'very good' - I really hope I'm not just getting my hopes up).
-
I watched the 41 minutes (!) of deleted scenes for the first three episodes. It's amazing that, even with those episodes being 42 minutes or so each, they STILL have so much material. Some of Dwight's stuff - like his story about being able to beat Zelda and Metroid but not RBI Baseball (so he blew it up) and the story about Mose's dog ("that's how you deal with a thief") were great.
-
Tazz: What did you drive here in, your wood paneled Subaru? Styles: Well it's an ECW original... one of the few left.
-
I really am looking forward to Adamle explaining all of this on Raw. Sadly this usually leads to me hearing a promo that explains nothing and moves on to the next plot, but we'll see.

I know what game I'm sending in this year's VC Secret Santa...

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion
DrVenkman PhD replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
It does vary by provider. It's $10 in Canada. I was trying to figure out what Sting vs. Hogan or Foley vs. Orton had to do with anything, then I realized baseball bats were involved. -
More than anything, Orton's 1st reign was the first plot beat in the HHH v. Batista feud. That feud was supposed to be Orton vs. HHH, though.

Discussion: WWE Scramblemania~!
DrVenkman PhD replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
The first 5 minutes of the Scramble matches had really flawed psychology that can't be fixed without adding even more rules, so I guess they just hoped no one would call them on it. In kayfabe, it takes energy just to kick out of a pinfall, so why are you doing that? Pride, I suppose. -
How about that hot new tag team of Billy Jerk and Ken Patera? They sure went places.
-
They need to send Tazz back to ECW and promote Striker to SmackDown. He was great.
-
The other side of the coin was is that Jeff had an "advance pin" on Shelton, meaning he would get his interim title back as soon as the ref could count Shelton's shoulders down. Unfortunately Jeff didn't check the clock.
