It became a regular bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sketches_from...Conan_O%27Brien Small Talk Moment - Conan and Max make small talk about a particular subject. The result is usually that both Max and Conan, bantering back and forth, end up going into extreme detail or citing obscure people and events. Once they have exhausted the subject, Max stops and says, "Wow, Conan! Talking about (this subject) sure is interesting," to which Conan enthusiastically responds, "It sure is, Max!" They then stare at one another in dull fashion as the camera cuts back and forth between them.

So you're taking credit for "<Subject> Small Talk Moment"?

WWE General Discussion - March 2009

If I send $14.75 to WWF Merchandising Dept, PO Box 6789 Stamford, CT 06904 and allow 4-6 weeks for delivery, is it likely I'll receive a WrestleMania 1 shirt as advertised on this VHS tape I'm watching? -
I wrote an exquisitely worded and fantastically exciting preview for SmackDown on Friday. The next few posts for the show took place in the spoiler thread. This was a sad day for SmackDown and my preview writing as I considered this wacky assortment of incredible words to be the 2nd best show preview I ever took the time to pontificate and type out. Since that effort was clearly time wasted (and not time well wasted like watching Winston Spear on "Comedy Network Presents") I do not have the vigour to embiggen the Raw preview with such a cromulent preview. Your loss, Total Scrap Management. I'm sure Twizted will say something negative in an attempt to fluster me as well. Announced: Shawn Michaels vs. Vladimir Kozlov (#1 Contendership bout for the Undertaker Streak Championship match at WrestleMania's 25th Anniversary). Probably Happening: Money in the Bank Contendership Bout.

I watched a 3 minute "Conan in Toronto" clip on youtube (making fun of everyone for chanting "Go Leafs Go") and now I really wish they'd just air blocks of classic Conan episodes. Does Jimmy still break and look at the camera?

Dr Spaceman Hawk PhD needs a "Canadian" in there for the tri... quad... pentafecta?

Figures. I love Hogan's limited PPV contract... the Nitro that was just on had him outright saying "I'll defend my belt in February after I beat Sting". February!

I wish I kept that facebook application, I could just reference that... Countries: Canada (home), United States. Provinces: Ontario (live here, visited friends in London and Toronto), Quebec (a school trip to Quebec City and Montreal in 1995 and Montreal in 2000). States: Michigan (lots of trips to Detroit - I'm in a border city and think flaming cheese / "queso flamadeo" and super nachos from Mexicantown are godly foods), Ohio (Cedar Point!), Pennsylvania (a few hours in Scranton with a friend to take in some Office related sights, also been to Pittsburgh for a day for no real reason and have stayed in various small towns as a stopover on a larger trip), New York (NYC, a day trip to Buffalo, drove through the state last summer), New Jersey (Atlantic City, home base for NYC based trips), Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, D.C. (more or less all part of one trip, though West Virginia was part of a drive to Baltimore last year, which was a different trip than usual), Indiana (overnight stay in Indianapolis en route to Kansas), Missouri (day trip to St. Louis, watched the Tigers play the Royals in 2006), Kansas (stayed in Overland Park between the previously mentioned Royals/Tigers games), Iowa (night stay), Wisconsin (night stay, drive through), Minneapolis (Tigers vs. Twins games in 2007), Nevada (a few different quick trips to Vegas), Illinois (Chicago in 1998 and 2008, an overnight stay in 2006)... I think that's it but I might be missing a few random drive through / overnight stays. Oh, Florida in the early / mid 90s to visit my grandparents. Spent an hour in Memphis, Tennessee at an airport in 1991 (the flight we had to Florida had a stop over here). It's hard to vote for the worst because I enjoy travelling and have never really had a bad experience. I was going to say "Michigan" just because, but then I remembered how awesome the drive through the the upper peninsula was in September 2007. I wasn't in Wisconsin long enough to develop a bad opinion of it. Maybe Nevada because I found Vegas a bit overrated (and every damned machine I touched when I went in November game me an electric shock, and the air seemed really dry).

"Finishers" are a whole other wrestling quirk. Getting dropped on your head is getting dropped on your head.

Yeah, the other spoilers I read made it sound like Matt admitted to the fake accidents, not the real ones (which, from a logic standpoint, still lacks but is a bit better).

The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania Thread

Well it's all news to JN News. His MSN source failed to tell him about past practice. -
What the hell is "WCW Main Event"? Was that the name of their Sunday night show? I thought it was WCW Pro but maybe that was Sunday morning. Anyway, it's really odd because I expected a small studio match for Hogan/Kamala but they're in a big arena with a set. They kept talking about COTC until the point I realized the Clash show was apparently on right after this show ended. I guess my question is why the hell did WCW run a free show from the Clash arena with a Hogan main event BEFORE their free Clash show on the same network? This seems a bit stupid. Hogan vs. Atlas is fun if only for Hogan's technicolour dreamcape and him telling Atlas he should be "shining his boots". They have a 2 minute match which seems to end rather mysteriously - Atlas is on the offense, they cut to the crowd, then Hogan gives Atlas an atomic drop on the top rope. Odd way to end a match.

Similar to above, wrestlers must train really hard for elimination matches and wear themselves out as a result. They seem a lot more prone to 3 counts in those matches. However, to defend the above, the kayfabe idea is if you have 60 minutes or 2 more falls to beat your opponent, you're more willing to let yourself be counted to the mat instead of exerting the enormous amount of energy we're to believe it takes to raise a shoulder.

WrestleMania Roundtable Part One: The Early Years (1985-1990)
DrVenkman PhD replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
I'm starting my March to Mania countdown tomorrow (and now that it's up to 24 shows, I think I'll be cutting it really, really close if I even make it at all before Mania 25) and I have to say, there are a few blocks of shows that I usually FF my way through and don't look forward to - the 1-5 block (minus 3), the 11-13 block, and Mania 15-18 (minus 17, and I like parts of 18). 6-10 is one of my favourites though (my other being 19 and beyond - all of those shows are very good) so I'm looking forward to that roundtable. Mania 1: It does what it accomplishes, but that doesn't make it something I really want to watch in 2009. I think the show is up on WWE 24/7 now (edit: Nope! Not until next week, so time to break out the VCR) along with an episode of All-American Wrestling that hyped the show. I think deep down this might be why I delayed my countdown until now when I know I should have started in February, but I think I'm going to skip the 24/7 version of the show; yes, my VHS tape won't even play on my HDTV ("No Signal" message) because of terrible tracking errors all of my Mania 1-13 tapes have, but you know what it has that I (assume) the Mania Anthology DVD version 24/7 will use? PRODUCTION CREDITS WITH "AXEL F"! Plus "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and an instrumental version of "Easy Lover" to open the show. To be honest I think I'll watch the digitally cleaned up version on 24/7, then pop in my VHS for the "missing" stuff. On the plus side, while it may be a bit dull, it's the shortest Mania ever. And seriously, was Alfred Hayes "on the joy juice" during some of those segments? He seemed lost. Mania 2: WWE 24/7 has done wonders for my appreciation of this show. Watching all the TNT episodes that hyped this up, getting some background on everything, it made me actually want to watch the show (the video segment on Raw a few weeks ago had the same effect). It has some good and some bad, but again, not a favourite. Mania III: Quite the spectacle and a fun show to watch for all the reasons stated above. My favourite of the early editions. Mania IV: I always get a kick out of how this show is labelled "too long" because it originally came on two tapes - it's about as long as Mania III and shorter than Mania V! That said, yes, it is long and fairly dull. I always thought it was too bad that Steamboat was in the doghouse for taking time off because, though I enjoyed Savage vs. Valentine (probably my 2nd favourite match on the show behind Savage/DiBiase), a face vs. face Savage vs. Steamboat match playing up on history where Savage gets the win and the two shake hands would have been good booking there. V: A long show made passable with the powers of the fast-forward button, but I do enjoy Hogan/Savage. Edit 2: Watching Mania 1 right now, totally forgot I'd be missing out on "Eye of the Tiger" if I watched this on 24/7. -
You can download a calibration program for $2 from the Xbox Marketplace.

I meant to DVR the Fey show but forgot. Oh well. Conan got very lucky in that he was bad for two years and had no ratings, but this was television landscape in 1993 and they had no one else to replace him anyway. I think it helped his opposition was Tom Snyder, man that show was boring. The only thing I remember really well was him asking John Lithgow if the "3rd Rock from the Sun" was the planet the alien he played came from, ha! Will 2009 allow Fallon to be terrible for 2 years and give him a chance to live and learn? Time will tell, but if ratings are bad due to the show not being funny enough to capture an audience, maybe NBC will decide they could just air "Classic Conan" and still sell ads for that.

You don't know Spaceman Ross.

Well, both titles belong to SmackDown right now and Vickie is the GM of both shows, so she can have things where she pleases. Just pretend this thought process all went down off camera.

Maybe the contract isn't signed yet? Kinda like when Austin and HHH agreed, and then HHH attacked Austin, THEN signed it. Pure awesome and a cruel sense of irony, if that's the case. Is HHH going to press charges against himself since Orton touched him? I think it was just a one way street.

WWE General Discussion - March 2009

It is in the US, as far as I'm aware. Was supposed to show a few weeks ago, but Obama's speech ran over and they never showed it. I think by that point the episode was already re-shuffled. The day of the speech (or perhaps even a bit before that), my guide removed the show from series record and said a rerun would be on (which aired in Canada on E! and on the west coast CBS stations).

This thread sounds like a result of my deteriorating mental sanity and unpredictable mood swings. There may be more big TSM announcements forthcoming. Promotions, future endeavours, retirements, etc. TSM will be the first to know.

I spent most of the HHH/Orton segment trying to figure out if the bald security officer was Konnan. I even thought I heard some people in the crowd yelling Konnan! It was good stuff though. I was disappointed the Jericho segment opened the show because I look forward to those the most, but it was good. I was amused that Lillian was in on the bit though. Speaking of Lillian, I noticed she stated the winner of the triple threat was guaranteed entry into the MITB match, so that sounds like good news for Rey and Morrison. I laughed at the Mania 12 recap using a "VINTAGE SHAWN MICHAELS!" soundbyte from Lawler. They had to have done that on purpose. I wish I could have these production people give me a video eulogy when I die as they've been doing a great job of making some very mundane things (WrestleMania 2) sound amazing. I'm glad I'm working days the next two Monday's - the fact I'm literally begging for a match to end by DQ (as soon as I saw Edge get the belt) so I can get the hell out of the house and on my way to work takes a bit away from the show.

I've determined that on top of being TSM's #1 racist, bob_barron is TSM's #1 misogynist. After conducting some interviews with various sources and examining some evidence posts, it's become quite clear Mr. Barron hates 30 Rock because it's Tina Fey's show and he went into an anti-Tina rage (after being in love with her not to far prior) that she "girl powered" up Weekend Update. Two female anchors sent him into a rage (and now he wants Brody and he wants him in a cage). Also Tina turned down an autograph request.

Just for the real record, I keep demanding Ross change his name because he's awful and want to openly mess with him until he goes away. Or changes his name so I don't think Spaceman Spiff is saying stupid things.
