WWE General Discussion - February 2009
DrVenkman PhD replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
Woah woah, Scroby acknowledging "dirt sheet" news as correct? -
Look at all the classic events we've already had in 2009: - All this stuff - Me yelling at bps via editing thread titles, then apologizing - bps reaching his fake 20,000th post. - Kinetic talking rasslin. - A folder where we can all talk about Mack Bolan: Executioner without fear or persecution from our comic loving peers. - Verne Gagne accidentally killing his roommate And that's all in under 2 months! We're healthier than that Morgan Sperlock guy.

Talk more about elitist books, less about forum death paranoia. Thanks.

You'll never guess my secret identity

I already don't like this, I just wanted to use the "My Secret Identity" theme song. Shut it down. -

No idea who TBR.com is, but yeah, that was in both the F4W and WO newsletters. -
A well known member of the Internet Wrestling Blogosphere took note of this game and plugged it.

I think Rock's IC title reign was supposed to be the Attitude-era version of The Honky Tonk Man, even calling himself "The greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time" in this episode. I don't even think he got a clean win over Faarooq!

I would totally fail at tag champs. I had to be reminded via the SNME DVD that the Spirit Squad held the titles and that was less than three years ago.

I don't mind that they have to bleep ass now (they've been doing it for years in Canada anyway), but bleeping the "ass" in "jackass" - which isn't even a swear, it's an animal - is pretty annoying. Props to the audio department on Jarrett's theme as there doesn't seem to be a noticeable gap from "WWF" being cut out of it.

Less than 24 hours after a thrilling No Way Out of Seattle PPV broadcast, WWE.com is listing CM Punk as the Raw brand's #1 titleholder. What will Stephanie McMahon have to say about what went down in the Raw title match just one night ago? Speaking of championships, Beth Phoenix seeks retribution for her title lose at the Royal Rumble tonight as she goes one on one with WWE Women's Champion Melina. Can 'The Glamazon' bring back her title, or will Melina prove to be a formidable champion? And what will Randy Orton say about WrestleMania tonight? With the countdown to the big event now in full force, the Legacy headmaster and 2009 Royal Rumble winner has a huge choice to make for his championship aspirations. Find out the answers to these and much more LIVE! (or on a 15 minute tape delay in Canada) tonight on Monday Night Raw.

A bit late but the Eddie/Rock match that was up was pretty good. Eddie's mid-move reversal of the Rock Bottom was pretty swank. I sorta watched the December to Dismember EC match (lots of FF for that one). Actually not as bad as I remembered with some good Punk/RVD interaction, but still not good overall. However - the Jaws cue rip-off music they used before a guy left a pod MUST be brought back.

Christian's Re-debut in WWE has occurred!

Yeah I was going to post the Observer stuff last night but didn't. There's a lot of small tidbits about this and that though, so I might revive an "Observer Notes" thread later. Or I might not. We'll see. -
Sonic's UGC was sold out when I went to buy it on Saturday. They had it for the PS3 though. Does the LatD require GTA IV to have been beaten or a large amount of story to already be known, or is it separate enough that people that just didn't have the time to play a lot last year would be good to go?

From F4Wonline.net: We don't have the exact number, but it was 5.9 million viewers. As a comparison, a few weeks ago when Randy Orton punted Vince McMahon, the show did a 3.9 rating which was 5.7 million viewers, so it is likely the best number for the show in a long time.

Missed 4 WWE Champions: was someone I didn't remember until the final 30 seconds. I actually had the same problem as Smues - I ran the entire 1984-2002 title order in my head, but the waters before and after were a bit muddy.

Planet Earth celebrated the Millennium at the end of 1999. That ends that argument. -

That would also have been an incorrect statement... I think. I mean, it was the 11th Mania event, therefore it would be the 11th Annual WrestleMania, correct? Anniversary wise, it would be the 10th. You know what... this is stupid. Get over it, people. -

Where were you people in 1994 or 2004? -
I'm going to second this because wow, what odd and rare footage. The match is pretty bad with a bunch of slow motion arm wringers and I almost stopped watching after seeing the novelty of head of hair Chris "KKB" Canyon in the ring, but I persevered to see Tony Atlas GORILLA PRESS SLAM~! Bundy. Now that was something.

I could not stop laughing at that audio clip and had to rewind it three times, then I got to hear it again when Vader ran away. Great stuff. cabbageboy pretty much summed up exactly how I felt about Raw as it is the clear cut prototype of a Russo show. I'm shocked they even had one competitive match (Dude/Gunn) that ended clean. However, because watching this show in it's current state is all about reliving the angles I loved in high school, this was a pretty great nostalgic trip. The Outlaws are now wearing their South Park shirts (which is when I became fans of them), the Mero / Brandi thing (which got the second biggest laugh out of me after "MEEEEEEEEEEEE", Mero calling Brandi someone who's doing an awful gimmick for money followed by JR saying "He's a baaaaaaaaaad man"), Austin proclaiming his intent to go after the world title, etc. Compare this to the Nitro episode which has wrestling matches, but they're Konnan vs. Ray Traylor and Barbarian vs. McMichael. I actually decided to stop watching Nitro at that point and watch it later. Other Raw highlights: - Hawk doing the "N64 Knockout" sell where he raises his head, trembles a bit, then collapses back down to the mat. You don't see that enough! Michael Cole (in his Raw announcing debut) also seems to think Kane gave Hawk two Tombstones when it was just a regular piledriver and one Tombstone. - Taka gets a Memphis Funeral (two piledrivers and a spike piledriver is the sort of thing I assume killed a person in Memphis). - Sable's Idaho potato sack as a "2" written in front of the 50lbs marking. This amused me.

FOX Sunday Night 08/09 - now in HD!
DrVenkman PhD replied to MarvinisaLunatic's topic in Television & Film
No, seriously this show is terrible now, and if you like the Simpsons nowadays, you are a bad person and deserve to be pushed off of a cliff by your youngest child. Fucking shits not funny, man. People who act like this over somebody liking a fucking tv show deserve to be pushed off a cliff first. A similar situation was MadTV's cancellation. People were celebrating this as a big victory and I couldn't figure out why. I mean, I hadn't watched the show in over a decade, but was the show's existence stopping some hidden gem of comedy from getting on the air? The sarcastic prediction I was going to make when people were discussing this last year was going to be something along the lines of, "Wow, you guys sure are looking forward to 'Talk Show with Spike Ferestein' being on an hour earlier", but apparently that's what actually happened anyway. So way to go champions of television justice.
