Dr. Fünke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family-Band Wrestling Observer Note
DrVenkman PhD replied to BUTT's topic in The WWE Folder
I hope Rob at least remembers that he didn't work more than, what, 4 matches in 2005 and (probably) got a bunch of money all year if he ever decided to bad mouth WWE if and when he leaves this year. That (probably) won't happen in TNA. -
Knock yourself out. Like I said, I didn't even know Bam Bam even had a theme that needed to be dubbed over (I'll look for it when I watch WM IV, I guess I usually am FF'ing at that point).

Volume 3 is an iffy purchase for me, if I were to go the Volumes route. I already own 98 and 2000-2001 on VHS and 2002 on DVD, so the only things I'd be upgrading to DVD will be FILLED with logo blurs and a PPV I don't even want (99). The plus side, I seem to remember 99 having that train wreck watchability to it, and Rock/Mankind is pretty brutal.

We need a thread that acknowledges name changes.

I also read that they're going after Mistico too.I read about in the magazine, and saw a match of his online. He's pretty freaking good...too bad Mysterio 'left town'; if he were to come back and find 3 or 4 new luchadors, that'd make for some great wrestling. Mysterio is going to be on Smackdown in 2 weeks..... He's only coming back to wave to his hometown, then leave until Summer.

Good call, Dr. Tom (happy birthday!) I know this has been brought up before and shot down, but I think some folders need their own limited power (perhaps no banning power?) mods. Pop Culture man himself, bob_barron, can run Movies/TV, AndrewTS can run Video Games (although with Smues now on hand as a mod, maybe that suffices), and so on. IMO4ED hit the nail right on the head by furthering the point I vaguely made - if something of general interest is merged, it shouldn't go into CS because no one should be forced to go into that pit of despair (and as he mentioned, shouldn't / can't from work). Apparnelty I felt strongly enough about this to log in at work, which will surely inconvenience me when I get home and need to login again (stupid security feature).

I adblocked the sig. Take that place I only visited a few times! I also find it difficult to keep track of whether the Pit is full of sexist jerks who all suck or is the best forum on the net, but I don't really care either way.

Re: September 85 MSG show. Wow, Steamboat was over. Also, The "Hart Attack" being done by Bret jumping off the top rope was pretty cool (although it wasn't executed all that smoothly - perhaps why it ended up being a ropes running jump instead).

Nostalgia is fun.

This was a stupid move. I had no interest in discussing anything in said thread, but closing a thread about a celebrity in the Movies/TV area so it could be discussed in CS - where no person should ever be made to go - is just stupid.

Yeah, by a whole $3.. but money is money. I do want this, but hopefully they release volumes like they did with Mania - 2002 through 2006 is useless to me. Then again, the cost of buying 3 volumes individually plus Rumble 07 on its own might end up being more than the current discount rate for the whole thing. Weren't we talking about this in the 2007 DVDs thread?
-
I suppose it would have been cool to see Hogan slam Khali live, but my big reason for wanting to go to Mania is to see Shawn win the title... he probably won't, but he should, damnit.

Wow, that was one detailed analysis of why WrestleMania IX gets a bad rap. I think you undersold the fact that a lot of negativity comes solely due to the Undertaker vs Gonzalez issue, but if you're not watching it live, who cares - just fast forward. I love the setting, the sky, the whole deal. Jim Ross was in a toga - BFD. It was the show's theme. I love Tatanka vs Michaels. Rick Steiner catching one of the Headshrinkers (I forget which) in a belly to belly suplex as he's leaping off the top rope (and Rick is on the other one's shoulders) is an incredible spot. And in 1993, I marked big for Hogan's title win. I threw some votes to WM IX over at WWE.com and noticed it says the March "PYBO" won't be on until March 31st. That's odd. Spring Stampede 94 is next week and I'll be recording that baby for sure.

Bob was making a reference to Mole closing a thread because he didn't like it (Anna Nicole Smith's death).

"Weapons of Magitek Destruction" sounds like one of those love / hate script changed. I love it. I went to order it online via Future Shop but they're sold out and I don't feel like finding another place online that has it and using my real credit card. I have Monday off, I might just go out and look for it and pay for it. There's a review on GameFAQs giving the game 2/10 - the reviewer seems quite agitated that Antidote is named "Poisana".

Was it ever explained why Heenan purposely had Hogan counted out or why Bundy should be so happy about this? If it was a non-title match, I can see the logic as Bundy/Heenan would be satisfied knowing they gave Hogan his first acknowledged loss in the Fed, but as it was, it seemed they were celebrating the fact they went out of their way to NOT win the title (see: Lex Luger, SummerSlam 93). Was it ever brought up again (ie softening up Hogan for Andre's title win 2 months later) or just one of those weird heel logic issues from the 80s?

I'm not a fan myself, but I'd certainly put it above 1 and 2. Savage winning the belt is cool but it's like Mania V - 4 hours (a lot of people don't realize the actual WM5 was LONGER than IV based on Coliseum Video's handling of the editing), a lot of matches, and only a few of them worth watching. My "WrestleMania that everyone hates but I enjoy" is IX, but I certainly wouldn't vote for that against WM XIX in the "Pick Your Big One" poll this month (not that it really matters to someone with all the WMs anyway).

On WWE.com Heat (and I'm probably earning myself the wrath of Totally Crazy for bringing WWE.com up), Eugene now comes out with a sign stating "I AM YOUR FRIEND" (some of the letters are backwards), I guess just to make sure anyone that remembered his heel turn knows it was reverted.

It's apparently a plot point in two weeks.

Yeah, he's was on point this episode: -that little smirk he gave the camera after "bouncing" Michael -"we need another plague." -Pavlov's Dwight -the Schrute's wedding/funeral traditions Thank you! All morning I was thinking "there's a really funny Dwight quote I want to mention" but I couldn't think of it. The more I reflect on the matter, I think Michael was ok. Like bob said, he wanted someone else's wedding to be about him but it failed. Michael also had a truamatic wedding experience as a kid, so maybe that messed him up a bit too. His line about how important an opening line is, but "with time, I like to try 3 or 4" was pretty funny too.

I found it odd that on SNME, Bam Bam had his 1995 face music dubbed in. I wasn't even aware 80's Bigelow had something that needed to be overdubbed. I don't recall him having any music at WrestleMania IV, which segues into... This whole "WrestleMania III" dilemma. It's February, so my annual Road to WrestleMania marathon is kicking off. I usually watch them in order (naturally), but I don't really feel like watching WM III twice in such a short period of time, nor do I want to create a tape viewing backlog by waiting until 24/7 airs the "better" version of the show. So, my options are: 1. Skip WM III, watch WM IV and so on and then go back to III when it's on 24/7. 2. Watch both (this would probably involve me doing what I did with WM1 this year and plan to do with 2 - "watch" it on the TV I now have a VCR hooked up to in the computer area while actually doing stuff on the net). I'm leaning towards 2, myself.

Whatever happened to Frogg McNeal?

Yeah S_D, stop mentioning WWE related things in the WWE folder! Totally Crazy: Did you know that a week from Sunday, LIVE and only on Pay-Per-View, World Wrestling Entertainment presents No Way Out? It's headlined by the WrestleMania main events colliding as Undertaker and The Animal Batista take on Raw's Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels and The Doctor of Thuganomics and current WWE Champion John Cena. Call your local cable provider today.

I really enjoyed the episode but Michael was becoming a bit much. However, him shoving Albert back into the wheelchair was incredibly awesome. All of the other funny stuff I remember - Creed, Dwight's take on Wedding Crashers/Grizzlyman, etc. - have already been mentioned. Oh, Michael getting replaced by a dog at his mom's 2nd wedding was gold.

The Klanimal was a funny gimmick.
