Get your sources on the case, Mecca. We need that dating story 100% confirmed! Amy is an annoying bitch.

It involved Dave becoming addicted to a white noise machine (which Max pointed out was implausible) and Max and Lisa fighting over "This Day in History". Joe was really funny throughout.

Is March still the target date for them to be readily available on store shelves, or is that something I made up in my mind? This would be the 3rd time I thought something was coming out - or in this case readily available - in March (Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers Brawl) that, looking back, I can't see a reason I ever thought that.

Things like this make me strongly question the people who say that HHH will make a good booker when and if he takes over WWE once Vince is gone. When has HHH showed booking genius? There is a difference between HHH nixing something because it personally affects him as an active wrestler and Paul Levesque, student of the game, as a head booker post-wrestling career. -
Have you ever got so frustrated with a game that you...

I beat Super Punch-Out!! when I was 14 and I'm not sure how since I wasn't that good at it. Assuming Hoy is the man with the cane, he was always one of my most hated opponents, although for the longest time the kickboxer in the 2nd circuit was my downfall. I can't remember the details (but maybe someone will), but there was some insane handicap match in the first Def Jam game that I always lost and got really, really angry at. I think I came here and started a thread about how much I hated the game. Someone else said "stop sucking at it", and with that advice I beat the stage. -
This is sort of hinted at above, but one of the biggest problems I have with the 1995 Rumble is the way history treats it. They put over how Shawn went the distance from #1 and won it when, due to the time intervals, he didn't even last as long as several past and future Rumble losers. It kinda bothers me that they need to push both Benoit and Shawn as going from #1 to win it as an equal feat.

Smackdown Spoilers for the 1/26 Airing

Undertaker just left (although somewhere on WWE.com they've retconned it to say he was eliminated by Giant Gonzalez). -
I saw a commercial for a company I now forget (some sort of insurance, I think... SmartBuy?) during NewsRadio on TBS (off topic: the episode was really funny, making me think season 5 / Max Lewis is underrated in the wake of the greatness that was Phil Hartman / Bill McNeal - or this just happened to be the exception to the rule, I don't know). The plot of the commercial was about a jingle or something, I only caught the end... Long story short, the name plate on the guys desk said Michael Scott. I would so get insurance from this company for referencing the office.

Modern day WWE seems to count that as being eliminated, though (at least with HBK and HHH). -

Smackdown Spoilers for the 1/26 Airing

Rack up those Fantasy points, Taker. Also, from some terrible spoilers on Torch (Christ, when websites get spoilers where people don't remember who won and missed half of the show, why do they even post them...): "Michael Cole does an in-crowd interview with Vladimir Koslov, who says he will eliminate 29 men in Rumble Royal. Double Double E. No brand attachment yet." Too bad Paul Bearer wasn't on TV, but he was only there as a local. -
Useless Rumble 2007 stats (reposted from CTDWAT): Of the 29 announced names, only 8 have not tasted gold in WWE (Chris Masters, Miz, MVP, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, Khali, and Kevin Thorn). That number can be lowered to 6 if you retcon Sandman and Sabu as holding a title currently active in the WWE. There are 12 former world champions (WWE/ECW) in the Rumble. There are 4 current title holders in the Rumble. There are 3 former Rumble winners involved this year (way up from 2004's zero, but down from 2006's four). If Gregory Helms can last more than 2 minutes and 2 seconds, he will have outlasted his entire ring time from his last 3 Rumble matches combined. On the flip side, Benoit has twice gone from the opening of the match until the #30th entrant has come out (1:01:30 in 2004 and 47:26 in 2005) as well as putting in a good 30:31 showing in 2006. However, each year seems to be shorter by approximately 15 minutes. What will 2007 bring? ---- Any chance a mod can downplay the poll aspect (the reason I ignored this) and rename this the OAO Rumble thread?

A new ECW is up. After getting spoiled by a series of matches involving Malenko and Guerrero, you can't really get excited to see a Hack Myers for JT Smith match but overall I enjoyed the episode. Foley has a great promo at the end. Mid show, Tazz and Joey Styles have a funny conversation about a terrible arena on top of a mountain in Pennsylvania. It can't be said enough how great the addition of Joey to the show has been. There's also a Hart Foundation special (presumably from Coliseum Video), an AWA episode, and a 87 (November, I believe) house show from Philly (the description lists Macho Man vs Honky Tonk Man).

Apples to oranges. The No Mercy era is dead and it's doubtful any game will compare. Some people seem to think the original Def Jam or DOR series was the second coming, but I didn't. If you're fine with playing an old roster on an old system but with unmatched quality in the controls, stick with No Mercy. If you don't want to stick with No Mercy but are the type of person that insists any wrestling game sucks because it isn't No Mercy, this is not for you. If you want to try something new that is an ok game series in it's own right when NOT compared to the glory days of N64 wrestling, give it a rental.

I was out of town during the last new episode and have gradually begun thinking Corner Gas is better than OK, but in face awesome due to reruns on the Comedy Network, so I watched that last night instead.

Going back to my rant about HBK eliminating Vader and Yoko at the same time and HHH doing a similar spot 10 years later, I believe it was Kane and Big Show that HHH tossed under the same circumstances HBK tossed Yoko and Vader.

I don't get the "I don't know / this shirt is too tight Billy" (or whatever people were, to me, randomly yelling) internet meme so I passed. Hawk 34 passed on the "He's Super Crazy!" set up so it's all good.
-
Hawk's follow up to "He's Super!" / "He's Crazy!" flow was a letdown, though he made a good point. Useless Rumble 2007 stats: Of the 29 announced names, only 8 have not tasted gold in WWE (Chris Masters, Miz, MVP, CM Punk, Sabu, Sandman, Khali, and Kevin Thorn). I kind of lost interest in getting a Wii in the near future when I heard Smash Brothers and Mario are now fall 2007 releases (it seemed to me they were Spring releases before). I still want one, though, but I'm getting bad flashbacks to the N64 - great must-have launch game with a unique control scheme (analog was new to consoles then, right?) and then nothing that's really worth your time except games that keep getting pushed back. That said, I loved my N64.

There is a series of videos on Youtube called "Crappy Games" featuring such tings as Nitro and the NES Superman. The guy just kind of swears a lot and I couldn't really say it's that good, but it's not terrible. I prefer the series of videos I was watching last fall on 1up where they were making fun of games like American Gladiators.
