The OAO RAW Thread - 5/16/05

Thanks... funny thing with Orton is they were making claims about his reign that weren't even true (calling it the lognest reing in 7 years when it would have only been 6) about a month before he lost it. Now Shelton can claim to have held the belt the longest since 1998 and no one has said a word. He's got 55 more days he's been the longest champ since the 1980s

Woah woah woah... woah. Hold the phone, kids. A real life incident being used for the purspoes of a wrestling angle in totally tasteless fashion? Good lord, Matt Hardy is on to something here folks. What is WWE thinking with this bold new direction of capitilizing on true to life disasterpieces? Sgt. Slaughter is rolling over in his sleep just thinking about it.

If liking or disliking a wrestler was to be based soley on their personal life and unprofessional conduct then we'd hate everyone. If people don't like Edge because they never have, fine, but no one is crying for Kevin Sullivan over what Benoit did to him 9 years ago. The "ECW Rules" thing reminded me of Klassic Kurt. As I'm sure you all recall, Raven challenged Angle to an "ECW Rules" match. Kurt accepted but made it clear that ECW doesn't rule, WWF does.

Wonder if we'll get Simon/Maven vs Superheroes tonight or if such a high caliber match is being saved for Vengeance (which is like 6 weeks away). Also wondering if we'll get any "Eric Bischoff is mad at the ECW PPV" advancement. An annoucned date for the Draft would be pretty super, too.

Much thanks for doing the follow-up line I was hoping someone would do Anyway, Candace is the girl from the Taxi Driver WM commercial / GoDaddy Superbowl ad. Meltzer said WWE would be insane to not capitalize on that and sure enough they had her o nthe Highlight Reel wasting time and contributing nothing. Hope Da Meltz was happy.

It would be a bit of a surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Outoftheloop (we may have to bleep their names) who aren't aware of why people are chanting something about Matt during Edge matches and Lita appearances.

Good news, everyone. "super-sexy Christy will face the gorgeous Candice in a Lingerie Pillow Fight. Christy has had great success in this match in the past. Which Diva will come out on top?" Everyone loves these, right?

Jericho turns on Shelton, Daivari pins him. Next week Hassan gives Daivari a chance to prove himself in an IC title match against Benjamin but he fails, furthering that angle. Jericho attacks Benjamin post match. Later Hassan gives a beatdown to Daivari but Benjamin makes the save. Daivari realizes the error of his ways and says he could learn to love America. He is then drafted to Smackdown to join the CWs. Flair loses to Christian. Flair is pretty angry that HHH was not there to be of any help due to his thick headed walk out plan. Tensions brew between Flair and HHH for the next few shows, Flair finally turns face and goes to SmackDown to feud with JBL. Edge defeats Kane when Lita turns on Kane. Lita explains she always has and always will hate Kane but thanks him for his assistance in riding her of Trish Stratus. To play off the Matt chants, Edge/Lita will reference that situation and relate it to what has happened to Kane. Edge will almost win the title from Batista next week but HHH will make his return and pedigree everyone, rendering the match a no contest. Edge will be angry but rest easy knowing he came close to winning and still has a guaranteed world title shot coming up. He will then be drafted to SmackDown making his Raw title shot null and void.

I recall the heel turn and the boring gimmick. As I recall, the beat the LOD which was a huge deal... then vanished. Very sad. I believe they were used as talent exchange with ECW and interfered in the RVD/Dreamer "WWF vs ECW - Winner flys the company flag" match (which is on the RVD DVD)

    Family Guy for 5/8/05

I take it I'm the only person that watches and enjoys KOTH since most people only talk about the 2 hour block between 8 and 10, ignoring that KOTH exists too. But then again, Fox ignored the show's existence almost all this season and it was a surprise to me that it's even coming back next season (albeit what will probably end up the final one).

So is the deal with American Dad that it has different guest stars as CIA co-workers? I was happy to hear Stephen Root in the first episode but apparently that was it. Now Patrick Stewart was all up in there. I don't know of this is considered spoiling so I'll just play it safe According to the episode guide on TVTome, Family Guy has a 3 episode story arc starting in 2 weeks. A review I read of last night's episode stated how great the show has been and "they haven't even got to the movie episodes yet". Would the 3 parter be the DVD movie that was intended before a whole season got picked up?

    SNL Review

Good review as usual... I only started reading / noticing these aorund MArch so I look forward to next week's big ass bash to see what I've missed. Celebrity Jeopardy was awesome and that Conclave deal was good once it got going. As for that Smigel cartoon, my reaction to it was pretty much the same as the children characters in it. Interesting though.

    Family Guy for 5/8/05

Wow that was a great episode "Bonnie, you've ben pregnant for like 6 years now, either have the kid or don't" The ending just got my more hyped for Episode III

    SNL Review

Good review as usual... If there was ever a night to bring Celebrity Jeopardy out of the mothballs, this would be it. However I fully expect to NOT see that and instead see that awful character that enjoys hot tubs.

    What's better?

What would Randy Orton's world title run be classified under? While true that he was being pushed, being placed in SummerSlam's main event did seem rather random, and in the end his title win was only used to say "ok fans, Orton won a world title, please buy him as a WM main eventer next year". I would have to classify that as "title, then push" myself and the result was poor.

    What's better?

Back when I was a teenager, I was sold on the NAO when they won the tag titles for no reason. They were just two random guys who had a winning streak by cheating, then ended up wit hthe tag titles. Once that happened I figured they must be "legit" and the South Park shirts were the icing on the cake. The push that followed once they won the titles was secondary to me. But that was years ago and those titles mean different things now. I think fans are more apt to rally behind someone being pushed higher up the card towards a title than a guy who wins on a fluke. Though he's not super over or anything, Paul London is a god example of someone they decided to push in 2005 by winning matches (albeit on Velocity) then gave him the title while he was on a winning streak. It's also wise to time things right... Cena got a push in 2003 and probably could have been a huge deal as champ in the fall of 2003 or summer of 2004 but is just winning it now in 2005. He's still over but there are now a lot more people that have seen through him and don't care for him. Batista started catching fire in the fall and his push to the title win was well timed, I feel.
