    "Basic Instinct" WM 21 Commercial

I think when Meltzer said the Shrek thing, he said "Braveheart / Shrek parody involving HHH and Flair", so a misinterpreting of the donkey thing sounds about right. Ghosbusters with Big Show stomping around New York City while JBL, the Bashams, and OJ fight him off would be cool. And to be on topic, yes, I found that commercial very funny. Christian is great, glad to see he's getting a push with Orton (that's the glass half full view of it, anyway).

    The Old School questions thread

Meltzer was talking about the Gooker on WOL last night... apparently Terry Funk thought Hector Guerrero was going to become a huge star out of that whole deal (prior to the PPV)

That's been cracking me up since I saw it in JBA's sig.

    SmackDown! Spoilers from Japan

From Observer (which has non-mixed teams for the Bashams match) Shane McMahon welcomed everyone to the show Velocity Paul London b Akio (who is well known in Japan as Jimmy Yang from All Japan). They gave these guys 13:32 Bob Holly b Rene Dupree with the Alabama slam Charlie Haas b Spike Dudley with a powerslam Smackdown Eddie Guerrero b Kenzo Suzuki with a frog splash in 4:17. Suzuki claimed he was the most popular Japanese athlete in the world, even more than Hideki Matsui. I guess that was his attempt to turn heel Bashams NC Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak in a tag title match when Undertaker came out and attacked Reigns & Jindrak (9:34) Funaki b Chavo Guerrero (7:55) with a DDT. Funaki was super over of course. John Cena b Orlando Jordan in the WWE title tournament with an FU in 5:01 Torrie Wilson b Hiroko in a kimono bra and panties match JBL and Big Show did a confrontation promo building up the PPV that everyone knows to skip Big Show then called out Akebono. He claimed Akebono is the Japanese Big Show but he's the Big Show all over the world. They went face-to-face but shook hands. Apparently there was a Japanese angle set up out of this as Sadaharu Tanigawa claimed Akebono had breached his contract by being part of a WWE television show, but it's just an angle Kurt Angle b Rey Mysterio in 17:13 with an ankle lock. Said to be a great match Dark match Undertaker b John Heidenreich in 17:04. I guess they needed to torture the fans on the way out

More info on the ECW ppv

Before Unforgiven, Christian suggested the stipulation for their match be a No Count Outs match. Also of note, Stephanie vs Sable from Vengeance 03 was fought under the fabled No Count Outs stip.

    Dumb Wrestling Questions?

When I was at Raw last March for the draft lottery, Ric Flair did indeed take a drink from a water bottle during the match him and Batista won back the tag titles from RVD/Booker. It happened during the commercial.

Hopefully WWE goes through with that extreme No Count Outs match that Christian teased us with last fall.

    Capcom goodness on tap

"The mighty Mega will see daylight yet again thanks to Capcom's Mega Man X Collection, a title that combines seven Mega Man X games onto a single disc. Capcom has not been forthcoming with the details, but acclaimed Studio 1 producer, Tatsuya Minami announced on Wednesday that Mega Man X Collection, a product that symbolizes the height of the Capcom platforming era, would release later this year. Though no further details were revealed, a brief video displayed showed the title in action. At least, we can only assume it was the title and not emulated or original versions of the Mega Man X games it promises to include. The bundle will apparently be comprised of the first three SNES Mega Man X games as well as the PlayStation versions of Mega Man X4 through X6. Additionally, Capcom will include the import Mega Man Battle & Chase. This Japan and Europe only PSOne cart racing game was not approved for North American distribution by Sony, so it should be quite a treat for fans of the series that shy away from imports" IGN

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

I think this one has already been covered, but had the Gulf War not happened / Vince decided the Slaughter angle would be in bad taste, would WMVII have been Hogan getting his win back over Warrior?

    The Old School questions thread

Yeah, I figured it was more Virgil winning some pride in the form of a swank looking title. Kayfabe wise, was Col. Mustafa the Iron Shiek, or was it a case of someone obviously being the same guy but being treated as someone different (best example would be Demolition Crush and Crush... same name and everything, but I don't think his Demolition past was ever mentioned). I was watching SummerSlam 91 and did hear Piper talk about 1983 when Mustafa put Hogan in the Camel Clutch, but that's the only reference I can remember. Monsoon may have called him a former champion at the 92 Rumble but despite seeing that match probably more times than any other match in history, I can't recall if he did.

    The Old School questions thread

What exactly did Virgil win when he beat DiBiase at SummerSlam? It was very exciting and something I still mark out for, but really, it seems he won a belt that wasn't recognized. At the time I thought he won a million bucks or something (Hennan mentions taxes), but nothing seems to back this up in anything I've seen.

    Moments you never saw coming

I can say in all honesty Flair winning the WWF title at the 92 Rumble was something I didn't see coming. It's all very obvious now but at the time I had only been watching for 5 months or so (and was just a kid). I thought for sure Sid or Piper (honest!) were going to win.

They're all bizarre... Shawn gets raped, Bigelow kills the audience, Doink brings in killer elephants, Yokozuna destroys the US economy, Bret becomes a huge actor, Luger rides a bus, and Taker goes around stealing souls before going back to Death Valley to die. http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/arcade/c/wwf.htm

WWE to announce 2005 Hall of Fame inductees

I met Jimmy Hart at an indy show here 2 weeks ago. He's a nice guy.

    WWE.com relaunches title history section

"After winning the European Championship in a joke of a match against Shawn Michaels, Triple H lost the championship in an equally joking fashion. Dressed as Goldust, Triple H took on Owen Hart. Hart was able to secure the victory. Afterwards, Commissioner Slaughter ruled that the European Championship would change hands as a result of the match's decision." Does WWE have this backwards? I seem to recall Goldust dressing as HHH and Slaughter saying it counted as a title match... the way WWE.com has it makes no sense.

    WWE.com relaunches title history section

"The championship didn't make an appearance in the United States, however, until after Shawn Michaels defeated the British Bulldog in Birmingham, England at One Night Only. After Michaels won the title, the European Championship began being defended on U.S. soil, as well" Oh snap, this whole time I thought Bret reunited with Owen in one of the greatest moments in Raw history when he interupted a European title match, on Raw, in the USA, between Bulldog and Owen in March 1997, but WWE.com says the title was never defended until Michaels won it! It sucks to find out one of your favourite moments in televised wrestling never happened. Ken Shamrock and his quest for the title must have been a figment of my imagination too.

Benoit's LHW title reign in Japan get's no sold! The disregard of the pre-1997 lineage from Japan is not in any way surprising, though. One thing I don't get is for Dean Malenko's 2nd reign, it says he lost a few weeks later to Crash Holly. Since when is 11 months "a few weeks"?

    Upcoming PPV dates/locations

That would be cool if Batista is still big when SummerSlam rolls around. When I went to Raw at the MCI Center in July he was getting big time cheered for being the local guy. Also good to see Survivor Series will be in my area.

    WWE news from WO.com

Unless I'm mistaken, Mr. Whale had an embarassingly awful interview with Edge last year where he thought he was going to be talking to a member of the band U2, then proceeded to ask stupid questions. Big loss.

I'm noticing a lack of old school

I just noticed this today, but it makes sense, at least to me anyway. A lot of times things would be posted in General Wrestling that seemed to fit better in Old School and vice versa... having them one in the same helps.

Official Royal Rumble 05 Entrance List

Anyone else catch Cole calling it a "30 person" Rumble instead of 30 man on SmackDown? Hope that doesn't mean anything.
