Two questions: I finished up Los Santos and found myself out in the countryside. I thought maybe I was allowed into San Fierro now so I took a plane there, but apparently I was only allowed in the back country area because the 4 star warning still came up. Funny thing about that, when my plane crashed, I spawned at a SF Hospital and proceeded to tour the entire city without problem. Should that have been possible? 2nd, although I'll find out for myself soon enough, are the Trucker missions optional or story? I found the mandatory one with Catilina that opens them up a pain in the ass (the tanker kept coming off anytime I slightly missed a turn or used the breaks) so if the missions from there are similar, I'll pass for now.

I skipped Judgment Day and GAB... I'm going back and forth on Unforgiven because though I recall liking the show when I watched it, the huge amount of negative feedback has mentally made me think I hated it. No Mercy I probably will get as I there were four matches I enjoyed-to-really enjoyed on that show (tag title, CW title, London vs Kidman, Rico/Haas vs Dudleyz). The main event was really awful but that's what power buttons on DVD players are for. Taboo Tuesday is one of those things where I didn't have a chance to see it on PPV but the results sounded good enough to check out on DVD (although there was a lot of negativity there for that one... I'm just interested in HBK/HHH, the IC title match, and Flair/Orton, which seemed to be reviewed positively). Survivor Series will be a pick-up, Armageddon will be a pass. I only picked up the 2003 edition to get my fancy 2003 box - the crappy PPVs from this year have no such incentive so hopefully I find a stand alone version of the tag title match on Kazaa someday.

You skipped GAB, right?

"So with that, he opened a briefcase and pulled out the old WCW Championship and gave it to Triple H, naming him the first World Heavyweight Champion. Since that time, greats such as Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit have staked claim to the prestigious championship." To me, that statement says it has the entire lineage (not withstanding their hyperbole over calling things prestigious) but putting it all up would take too much time and effort, so they just started it from 2002. It is a confusing history, after all.

The whole world seems to be gushing over Arrested Development, but I just can't get into it. I tried watching it once for a bit and there was seemingly more annoying inner monolgue than dialogue which got on my nerves fast. But hey, I never got what the fuss over CYE was either but once I decided to watch a full episode I loved it.

Most of the web comics friends never shut up about while wearing t-shirts from the comics website. I'm a nerd, they're all nerds, but maybe I'm not nerd enough to understand why everyday on penny-arcade is the funniest thing ever (I admit the odd time I've checked it out there has been something really funny, but usually I'm left scratching my head). Same goes for Something Positive, Sexy Losers, and so on.

Anyone know why the name "Steve Austin" doesn't appear in this thing? It just says Stone Cold (and only Stone Cold) for every instance he's mentioned.

Also, that trademark notice has been appearing on most of the DVDs this year. One would assume that the move NAME is being trademarked.

I didn't even know about that "plastic surgery" angle. I always thought it was just an evil twin in the storyline. That's crazy.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

1. I believe Ron Simmons vs. Rick Rude for the WCW title was the original advertised main event for Starrcade 92. Frankly I don't even remember what it ended up being, but I'm pretty sure it got changed. 4. Ron Simmons vs Cactus Jack was the WCW Title match at Halloween Havoc 92. -
True story or fake myth: Men on a Mission only won the tag titles because Mabel legit knocked out Pierre by splashing him and they knew they could give the belts back to the Quebeccers 2 days later (it was part of a UK Tour).

I liked it when Cat kept calling him DDP.

Did WCW ever have negotiations to bring Hennig or Warrior in in 1994? I seem to recall a lot of name dropping leading up to a Clash match between Hogan/Flair, where Flair promised both the Ultimate Surprise and the PErfect Surprise... then it ended up being a masked Double A (I think), who in the storyline ended up being Brutus. That was weak. -
"Rather, he was forced to vacate it after defeating Hollywood Hogan for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania VI." That just looks so damn weird.

Anyone know where the "Wrestler was promised a title in his contract" rumours originated? I remember in late 98 / early 99, there was a rumour making rounds that Gangrel (of all people) was promised a title run, persumably of any kind. The group of us who watched the 99 Rumble all assumed Gangrel was winning the European title, but it was not to be.

Do not deny the greatness of Christmas Vacation.

In a change of Holiday tradition (which started in 2000 when I saw the movie for the first time, believe it or not), I saw the movie on CBC (Sunday) instead of CityTV this year. "Jolliest bunch of assholes" is a great line. -
So.... Who gets the famed Rock program at WM?

Unless I'm mistaken Angle and Rey returned from knee injuries with artho surgery in 1-2 months. -
Don't forget, this IS HHH here... who's to say Randy won't be the one to go into Mania with the belt while HHH wins the Rumble? HHH winning the belt on PPV then defending it sucessfully at the Rumble 3 weeks later against someone totally random who is nothing more than a filler match before the Mania PPV helps no one but HHH (I know, I know... this IS HHH here). I'd think someone (Jericho) will get a cp of coffee run with the belt before losing it to HHH at the Rumble. Randy will then win the Rumble. Also, keep this in mind: THey're doing the Batista turn the right way. While Randy has now gotten himself over as a face (where he wasn't really that over when he was the face champion), I wouldn't be surprised to see Randy walk out of Raw PPV with the title only to drop it to HHH at the Rumble or a big February Raw while Batista wins the Rumble and faces HHH at WM.

Something that also hit me was that next week is the Raw after Armageddon, meaning Raw is free to promote the ME for the New Year's Revolution PPV without brand confusion.

Shows you have a much different view of now

This doesn't directly answer the question, but when I first bought an ECW VHS tape that featured the Lynn/RVD match from HH99 (I think.. smae one that's on the WWe DVD now) I hated it. I only knew Rob from the few times I saw ECW on TV and his quick match on Raw against Jeff Hardy, so basically I thought the match was too much stalling and a bunch of stupid flips and stuff that meant nothing and made me question why Joey Styles was claiming people called this the greatest match ever in the intro to it on the tape... Fast forward to watching the match recently, with a better understanding of RVD's offense... it's still a bunch of stalling to start, but I did end up liking that match. To actually answer the question, most PPVs from 1998 or 1999 were things I loved at the time, mostly due to watching them with a large group of people cheering, but watching them in later years on VHS is a cause to FF through it. I find Mania 14 and SummerSlam 98 hold up well, as do scattered matches from those PPVs, but I can;t figure out what I ever saw in Fully Loaded 98. I look forward to the day that becomes decade old nostalgia to make it good again. -
The thread is locked during the show. we have a seperate fourm for our idiotic comments. I see... I generally stay away from these things as my pro-WWE markish bias tends to disagree with 90% of the "this is gay" or what have you sentiment that goes on in During Show Threads, so I'm out of that loop I guess. I thought the OAO thread was something that was posted before the show and in general went on to be 14+ pages of show comments during the show plus aftermath comments too, but recently I've been seeing "Raw Discussion" threads, which I thought were meant to be started once the show ended. Now I know, and knowing is half the catchphrase.

Kinda werid that the only two all women Raw main events both featured Lita capturing the belt in a better than expected match. Of course, I could be wrong and there might have been a Trish vs Someone Raw ME I'm not remembering, and of course opinion on those Lita matches vary as well, but you get my point.
-
The show seemed kinda odd (2 dqs? Pissing the whole audience 10 minutes in by announcing that the title situation won't be solved for a week - which in turn means several weeks?), but was it that bad that everyone decided not to watch this week? Or was there some problem with the forum? Doesn't this thing usually hit several pages by now? My own thoughts... I thought it was a good show, but it kinda felt like a cross between a Russo Raw and a bad Nitro at times. 2 segments before we had a match, not booking Flair in a match when obviously that was what the crowd wanted, the above mentioend 2 DQ finishes... But I liked the matches. I thought Eugene vs Maven did what it intended do and I thought Maven showed some charisma as a heel during the match. The "He tripped me!" bit was good. I thought Trish vs Lita was good, but that might have been a combination of being wowed by that bump Lita took, the hot crowd, and Trish looking super hot tonight. The tag match was pretty good while it lasted too.

The Survivor Series 96 secret partner that ended up being Snuka... Anyone else here rumours about it being Savage? That was the big rumour around these parts.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
DrVenkman PhD replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
This is quite the thread, finally finished reading it. The WWE/ECW ones are good too. A question about what Regal did between his WWF stints was asked and the answer "nothing" was given... I do seem to recall him being involved in the WCWSN TV tite exclusive angles that also involved Duggan and the Cuban Assassin, but I could be way off on this one. I swear Regal lost, perhaps to Duggan, a match on SN that was his last one for WCW as it was either a Loser Leaves or a "If I don't win the title I'm leaving" situation. Feel free to correct this if it's wrong. Mabel as the 3rd man... wow. Wrestling sure would have been different. ML Curly, Detroit wrestling guy and convicted (I think) pedophile did report the Hogan thing in advance of the show, but he said to expect mother ships to blow up the earth if it happened and maintained that it would probably be Luger since Hogan wouldn't go heel. Something that bothered me when I was younger was that WCW never had Bulldog beat Vader for the WCW title. I thought he would win it at Slamboree, but he didn't, so I thought for sure he'd win at the Clash, and he didn't. It pissed me off as I was a Bulldog mark. Any reason for this? Was it ever even considered, or was Bulldog just filler until Vader lost it to Sid (which turned out to be Flair) in December?
