The Dames' Diatribe on WWE Royal Rumble 2004

Bob beat me on correcting you on the Tazz/JR thing. Good job Dames. Myself and my pal Drew, we were marking out big time for the Rumble match.. I agree with the sentiment it's probably tbe best since 1992. Even the undercard I found ok... don't get me wrong, the length of the matches were a real let down and a Draw in a match that is happening becuase their last match was ALSO a Draw is bullshit, butI didn't really find the content in the short matches to be bad (except the tag title match), so overall I was ok with the matches (I'm an optimist, though) and thought the Rumble itself rocked. Off topic: I don't know if it was you or someone else who put the forum link up, but it's "Shades of Gray".. it's a play on words, not a use of the colour Grey.

Shades of Gray - WWE 2003

Yeah it's rather markish and goes against what a lot of people here think, but hey, that's what Shades of Gray always has been. Feel free to read it and comment on it here, but if not, hey, whatever. Shades of Gray Edit: Obviously the sub-title of the thread is "If you want", not "Is you want". Damn typos.

Shades of Gray - WWE 2003

Maybe Benoit can carry all the Raw PPVs? I think Holly/Lesnar will be better than the tag title match, but I understand the point of view where the former could be the card's worst match. Still, it won't touch HHH/Steiner.

    Stone Cold Truth DVD

As usual, ripped from Silvervision. Only 3 matches announced for it, but it does say "Plus More" so who knows. Stone Cold Steve Austin will tell his won story, in his own words, in his own unique style. Travel all the way to England to hear the Texas Rattlesnake's two daughters Stephanie and Cassidy, on Stone Cold the dad. Journey with the Rattlesnake back to his home of Edna, Texas for the first time, this notoriously private man opens his world to you. Plus his Mom, Dad, brothers and sister discuss just how a young, polite and shy Steve Williams turned into Stone Cold Steve Austin. Get candid cmments on just how the Texas Rattlesnake felt about Owen Hart before and after taking the piledriver that nearly left the Rattlesnake paralyzed, and ended it all, before the Stone Cold phenomenom ever took off. DVD Extras: WCW: Team Tag Championship Match Hollywood Blondes vs. Arn Anderson & Ric Flair Clash of the Champions XXIII 6.17.1993 ECW: The Promos, plus Steve Austin vs. Mikey Whipwreck November 2 Remember 11.18.1995 WWE: Debut match as Ringmaster. Plus post-show “off-the-air” footage. Family interviews & stories. Plus much more. .. now where the hell is the Confidential Volume 2 info?

The One and Only Smackdown! HCTP Thread

No I just meant in Season. I'm too much of a puss to play on that level of difficulty in exhibition... but anyway... What's the deal with Michael Cole wrestling at Mania? Is there some angle that sets this up I haven't seen yet? A season ago I was off the card, to I played the tag title match (??? and Hawk vs Champions), and was surprised to see ??? as a fairly good (move set wise) Michael Cole. I won the belts and of course they were not defended at all until the NEXT Mania. This time, it was Michael Cole and Hawk vs...... Michael Cole and Matt Hardy. What a dream match!

    Stone Cold Truth DVD

I'm confident "Rock's Greatest Hits" was some sort of typo or error or idea they had that changed. I say this because the calendar that came with No Mercy said it was released yesterday.. but yesterday was the official release of Foley's DVD, ALSO called Greatest Hits (and misses). I don't know if that's just coincidence.

So who's ordering the Royal Rumble?

I'd love to order the show and split the costs with a friend, but PPV without digital cable has been unavailable here for about 4 years now. So, as usual, we'll be going out to a bar that shows it and hope it's not one of the 36 WWE sued. There is never a month I don't go, the exception being Unforgiven, where I was scheduled to work that night and really had no interest in working out a shift change. The same scenario happened for Series, Armageddon, and the Rumble. I took care of the Series date right away, I was not sure it was worth the trouble for Armageddon until they announced Hurricane would be on the card, and I'm really looking forward to the Rumble. As much as everyone is shitting on Holly/Lesnar (with good cause), it should still be a decent-good match, I have high hopes for HBK/HHH, I ALWAYS love the Rumble, Mysterio might finally win a match on PPV, and Guerrero vs Guerrero should be good. A PPV is good when your worst match has Ric Flair in it.

The Dames' Diatribe on WWE Raw - Jan 19th, 2004

Dames, where the Hell do you get "Goldberg is a lock to win the Rumble" from? I had him pegged at a #3 possibility (below Benoit, the #1 choice, and Angle), and getting #30 is the kiss of death.

    Just watched the Foley DVD

I'm no legal expert nor have I really read up on the whole thing, but the DVD thing does kinda bother me. I was of the understanding the WWF thing was an international concern and DVDs being released domestically in the US should not have to be blured. Since Canada and the UK have their own distributors (Koch/Silvervision), WWE Home Video in the US shouldn't be responsible for the bluring... but I guess they feel it's just easier to blur everything. I'm also wondering when all these rules took affect, because it was certainly not when WWF went to WWE. For example, the Hogan DVD has Hogan both saying WWF and scratch logos from right before the change. A few months later on TV, the blurring began, and then on the Flair DVD, "WWF" has to be cut from audio.

    When was the last time...

I was pretty sure Rock was going to win in 2001, if only because history has shown you're only supposed to win the Rumble twice, and it's back to back. Austin had already done his back to back and Rock had won the year prior. Tradition changed and I was surprised. I think in the end it worked out better that way.

Is the PS2 the only system

My PS2 works fine, and I bought it in October 2001. It seems to have some DVD playing problems (Vengeance 01, for example, plays horribly in my PS2 but just fine on anything else). Off topic, I really resent the fact that I have a noisy beast of a machine that can't be turned off via remote when I'm comfortably watching DVD's late at night, while my friend's new PS2 is silent and can be powered on and off via remote. Where's the justice in that?
  14. Lex Luger had solid steel in that forearm to the head, 2GOLD. That's a hardcore finisher. Shane Douglas' transition move finisher (the belly to belly) was bad, but better than the WSS. I don't want to say the Tornado Punch since I marked out for it when I started watching WWF in 91, but yeah, that was a bad finisher (unless Perfect was selling it).

    Summerslam 2003 DVD

Highly doubtful. SummerSlam is one of 3 DVDs in 2003 that were released during WWE's experimental "Let's not put extras on PPV DVD's" phase, which started with Vengeance. Extras have been put back starting with No Mercy (basic interviews, might have been a Heat match, and the Big Show / feces hose segment), Survivor Series (Noble vs Tajiri, Confidential segments), and Armageddon (No specifics announced). As for Easter eggs, I don't think any have any.
  16. Yes, but Cen'a up and over motion makes you diazzy for the 3 count! Much like the Angle Slam, I guess. I'm not sure if it was a WWF finisher or not (since I only have WrestleMania 5 to go on) but the 'Garvin Stomp' seems really lame. It's a FRIGGIN STOMP, people. It could be anyone form Ronnie Garvin to Someone Who is Not Strong Or Something Like That, Fill in Your Own Name doing a stomp.

The One and Only Smackdown! HCTP Thread

If this has been discussed somewhere else in this 61 page beast of a thread, I apologize, but I don't have time to go look. In the manager vs male wrestler storyline climax on PPV, can the match only end by the manager's special move? I FINALLY finished the storyline right, but it seemed odd. I was HHH, and Stacy was fighting D-Von. I must have given D-Von 11 pedigrees or more, and he was totally red from various steel chair shots as well. Each time, he kicked out. Then, finally, Stacy got her special, used it, and pinned him. We kissed and everyone was happy. I also had something happen backstage that hasn't before. I talked to Benoit, when Victoria came up and they had a date all set up. I then said Jazz was looking better, Victoria got mad and left, and Benoit said I was ruining his fun. I got 5exp for being a better Heel, apparently.

Who wants to recap the last 5 months?

Test and Scott Steiner's rivalry went to new height's of intensity when they had another bad match at Unforgiven with Stacy one again on the line. However, if Test won, Steiner also had to be his man slave. Test won and nothing really happened outside of him forcing Steiner to tag with him to go for the titles, but Stacy cost them the match so Steiner turned heel on her. They decided to become friends and share abusing Stacy, who was later freed from their evil grips when WWE Consultant / Co-GM for 2 weeks Mick Foley pretended to fire them but didn't really. That shitty, overpushed tag team you may remember as La Resistance is now the good (One of my favourite tag teams at the moment!) but rarely used La Resistance, with Rob Conway in and Sylvain Grenier out. Conway is good and Dupree has improved, and his little dance/jig is awesome. Nathan Jones returned to TV, then walked out when he decided traveling was too tough. Lesnar vs Benoit had a very good, if not highly overrated by Dave Meltzer as the greatest thing ever, title match on SmackDown where Lesnar won with the 'Brock Lock' (Stretch Muffler according to my videa games). SmackDown! General Manager Paul Heyman wants to build the WWE around Lesnar, and isn't pleased with Benoit being a threat to the title. He promised Benoit he would never have a title match again under his watch, which at the time sounded like a plan for Stephanie to come back, but was just a story point for Benoit to enter the Rumble after Heyman messed up and let John Cena pick any tag partner he wanted, under stipulations that Cena and his partner could be in the Rumble if they won a handicap match against the FBI. Odds are good Benoit will win the Rumble, but rumours suggest he'll face HHH instead. My thoughts: After Benoit wins, Heyman will say he meant it when he said Benoit would never face Lesnar again, and announce he was traded to Raw for Goldberg.

Vince McMahon Upset About WMXX Leaks

I would think he's upset about the Kane/Taker thing, because someone, whether it was Taker himself or Vince's direction, had Taker do an interview circuit denying any plans ever to use an old gimmick or feud with Kane. That doesn't change the fact they've been building the match since Survivor Series.

    New Mattitude Commentary

I like how he noted he and Helms were there with "their girls", then noted Shannon was also there. Since Matt's girl is Lita, I can only assume Hurricane's girl is Moore. They are gay, right?

    WWE Originals

I downloaded them all from NoDQ.com (it appears they are now gone) and as expected they all suck, except Angle's which is very catchy, and Cena's which is just his theme. To be fair, I only listened to the other tracks for about 30 seconds, but it seems all 5 of Austin's tracks are just him talking.

    Scott Keith gave HHH/HBK ****3/4

IF you read his blog, you'll note he admits right off the bat he probably over rated the match, but feels he can get away with it because Keller overrated the Iron Man match (ignoring the fact he did, too). If someone said this before, sorry, but I stopped reading 2 1/2 pages in. I held off writing my annual Year End column on the off chance this match might have deserved to be mentioned in it (although I could have added it in later...), and it was a good thing I did. But now I'm busy today and might end up writing nothing today...
