I don't follow.

Was that 2004 dispute when there was a crawl at the bottom of the screen during some shows (like Raw) explaining the situation and urging people to complain to whoever the appropriate person to complain to? Also, just a quick note - if anyone is still interested in voting for the year end wrestling awards, it's up in Center Stage and still open until sometime next week.

WWE General Discussion - January 2009

I loved this show when I was 13 and rented it on more than one occasion. I remembered really enjoying the undercard and finding all 3 title matches to be good and even thinking the Rumble was fun with it's faster pace (but I was glad it never happened again). I re-watched it for the first time in forever last year (though I think I watched the Rumble match on WWE.com's Legacy / 24/7 / Jukebox not to long before) with the Rumble Anthology and wow, the Rumble match was actually quite dull. That said, I'm a sucker for Rumble matches even when they are dull and I still thought Jarrett / Razor was good, as was Hart / Diesel (very overbooked though, and not close to Survivor Series 95 good) though the tag title match wasn't as good as I remembered as a kid, but still enjoyable. Overall, I think this is a good show that suffers the "Bad Rumble Effect" to the worst degree. The 1992 and 2004 Royal Rumble's benefit greatly from the "Good Rumble Effect" and get called good shows despite having lackluster undercard matches. New Foundation vs. Orient Express is a good tag match and Piper winning the IC title is a fun moment, but the last two tag matches are bad and if I did star ratings, Bushwackers vs. Bevelry Brothers would be in the negative range. The 2004 show had 3 really short matches followed by a BOB HOLLY WWE title match, and Shawn/HHH was probably one of the worst in their series until the June Hell in a Cell match (it probably didn't help that it came off the best match in their series). Both of those shows were totally saved by an awesome Rumble. In 1995, you have a good IC title match, a good world title match, a good tag title match, the set-up to the LT Mania match - so far so good in having a good show, with Taker / IRS being a dull match but not offensively bad. Then you get a 30 minute Rumble full of "stars" that never really amounts to anything good outside of the Shawn / Bulldog in-match storyline - if the Rumble match is bad, then that must mean the show is bad. I just think it's a bit unfair in this instance, especially since in the "Good Rumble Effect" scenarios, you had a 1 hour (or longer) match carrying a 2 hour, 40 minute show. This was a 30 minute match, which if I look it up might actually be shorter than the world title match. Now 1993, THAT's a boring Royal Rumble show.

Tommy Dreamer has got to be up there, outside of a win over Colin Delany.

I eagerly anticipate the New Year's that some outside celebration wakes me up at midnight, prompting me to start doing my taxes.

What's the Dan Maff Clique? (who is it, what is it, why they're called that, etc.) It's a group of Ring of Honor fans that were upset about Homicide blackballing Dan Maff from the indy circuit due to alleged going-ons with Maff and Homicide's kid sister.

Who needs the WON Awards when we have the 1st Annual TSM Forums SLAM-E awards (Alternate unused title - The FORUM Awards: Fantastic Or Respectable Outstanding Universal Merit)? Much like the TSM Great Wrestling Survey, this is actually about all wrestling companies, but for traffic purposes will be held here. It's all very easy - there are categories, you vote on the winners. Some have one answer, some have three (with a point scale to determine winners - 1st choice is worth 3 points, 2nd is worth 2, 3rd is worth 1). This can either be a fun annual event or a huge disaster, but we won't know until we try. VOTING TIMELINE: Voting will remain open until January 1, 2009 (as in, it closes at the end of the day on Wednesday, December 31st). The cut-off date for the awards is December 14th, and as far as I know I'm not planning on counting votes as they happen so if you decide to vote before Sunday for, say, SummerSlam as the PPV of the year but it turns out Armageddon is really awesome, or Rey vs. CM Punk becomes one of your MOTYCs, edit away. BEST OF: A. Performer Of The Year - the best overall combination of someone who can back it up in the ring but can entertain on promos. 1. 2. 3. B. Wrestler Of The Year - the wrestler who can best work a technical match. Though part of "working" is the ability to entertain a crowd (this is why Hulk Hogan can never be called a bad worker - bad mat technician yes, but the man could work a crowd), this is meant for those who may not be over with Casual Joe, but Hardcore Henry says he's the greatest of all time. 1. 2. 3. C. Entertainer Of The Year - while everyone is eligable of course, the idea here is that just because all their matches are about * or less, you find them to be a guilty pleasure or hilarious or what not. I already know who the winner is but we'll go through the motions. 1. Santino Marella (except for Spaceman Spiff). 2. 3. D. Tag-Team Of The Year: 1. 2. 3. E. PPV Of The Year: 1. 2. 3. F. Match Of The Year: 1. 2. 3. G. Best Television Show Of The Year: 1. H. Smart-Mark Out Moment Of The Year: 1. I. DVD Of The Year (note: The SummerSlam Anthology is eligible for this): 1. J. Feud Of The Year: 1. K. Angle Of The Year: 1. L. Non-Match / Segment Of The Year: 1. M. Female Of The Year (either for wrestling ability or because you find them hot, I don't care): 1. 2. 3. N. Announcer / Colour Commentator Of The Year (one or the other): 1. WORST OF: A. Least Entertaining Wrestler (Don't use the "Best Of" classifications, this is for the person who you hate to see in the ring because you find no redeeming entertainment value with them - it probably goes without saying they can't wrestle): 1. 2. 3. B. Worst Interviews/Promos/Non-wrestling Segments: 1. C. Worst Tag Team Of The Year: 1. D. Worst PPV Of The Year: 1. E. Worst Match Of The Year: 1. F. Worst Television Show Of The Year: 1. G. 2008's "Embarrassed to be a Wrestling Fan" Moment: 1. H. Worst / Most Disappointing DVD Of The Year: 1. I. Worst Feud: 1. J. Worst Angle: 1. K. Worst Announcer / Colour Commentator (one or the other): 1. L. Worst Non-Match/Segment Of The Year: 1. M. Worst Female Of The Year 1.

Yeah, I believe it was very similar to how they do SmackDown today.

Wasn't it last year that HHH lost the rights to be in the Rumble, but then won a last chance battle royal or something and all of the sudden he was back in it, making the whole task of getting there a waste of time? I hope that doesn't happen again this year. I still think Orton is going to win the Rumble and HHH will win the No Way Out of The Chamber match.

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread

Either way I'm glad I fixed "remotely", it had been wrong for months. -
Yeah, I recall seeing ol Dick at a NYE bash a two years ago and thinking he shouldn't have even been on the air.
-
I'm sure you'll manage to have lots of great sex and make sure that TSM knows about it though!

Keep digging, watson. The Frog Ending would be the ending in Chrono Trigger related to the character "Frog". I guess it's hard to get and CronoT (I think? Maybe it was Inuyasha or someone else of that ilk) was bragging about it. At least that's how I understand it, I missed the actual event that led to it becoming a TSMeme.

Heh, "barts". I'm keeping it real at work, thankfully the amount of idiot drunks coming in has been low (some kid is hopping around though and needed a wheelchair) but the night is young.

The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread
DrVenkman PhD replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in No Holds Barred
Happy birthday to Agent, and a big birthday greeting to all the people who are over 100 years old and still going. -
I've never been clear on whether spoiled in that context meant "gave away" or "ruined" (well, ok, both mean "ruin" but you know what I mean). I'm 99% sure it means "ruined", but I like to think of it in the "spoiler" sense.

Yeah, the Christmas 97 Raw had a lot of live (or at least recently redone) shots of the announcers keyed into the taping. It was kind of like watching an old Superstars / Challenge!

The "Vent about not having Program X on 24/7" Thread
DrVenkman PhD replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in WWE Multimedia
I'm not sure if "all the spelling errors" is really an accurate phrase to point out that "remotely" had a typo (which is now fixed). "Troubleshot" is a valid past tense of "Troubleshoot". -
So, the year is just about done, eh?

I did enjoy Aztec Tights Jeff Jarrett's look and his wacky music that came with it, so I look forward to reliving that extremely brief era (plus the nWa angle that came out of it). I have no recollection to why he suddenly became Double J, Country Music Star (with Tennessee Lee!) again, but I laughed. I suspect the answer is nothing more than "Russo said so, so that's what he came out as on TV one day".
-
You never knew what you were going to get with Lord Alfred. Sometimes he chastises the heels for being dirty, but then in another match he'll root for them because he has an unspecified reason for disliking the face.

WWE General Discussion - December 2008
DrVenkman PhD replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I like how WWE actually has a "WWEFanNation" youtube channel to officially post stuff like a Goldust Christmas and what not. I remember last year there was a small net rumour that WWE had a youtube account as there was one particular account that posted a lot of stuff and was never "copyright violation" blocked like the others. -

I'm going to assume Stan Lane before I even watch the video. That was Monsoon's usual Coliseum Video partner in 1994. Edit: Yep, good ol Sweet Stan. -
Shouldn't my name be reverted back to DrVenkman PhD in that quote? Weird.
