Good sites for history of politics, conflicts

Being born in 1986, I have neither: a) lived through much history and b) lived long enough to take an in-depth course at the university level and such. My question to you guys is, what sites are there that are relatively educational and offer a lot of information on how the economy was in the past, wars, various conflicts, famous cases, etc. Just something to help me form a more intelligent view on such things, as I only have basic knowledge of any sort of history since the American constitution. This may seem like a broad question, but I didn't know how else to put it. If you know of any good ones, posting them here would be mucho appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I never said that cops can't put aside his prejudices, but if he's actually acted on it then that is a different story. A cop who believes that all black people are stupid is one thing, but a cop who has pulled over people for the sole reason that they were black and driving a fancy car is another. That's not important though, as the final decision would be ruled on someone other than the cop. Going back to your question about journalists, well, I don't really trust journalists to make unbiased decisions. They *do* make biased decisions, and to try and prove this is pointless since we all know this. However, they can only go so far, since a news story is still a news story at heart. It doesn't matter how biased someone might be in favour of Michael Jackson, there would be many things that could be pointed out, by the Jacko fan themselves that would only be a detriment to MJ's character. Obviously they could put their own spin on things, but the truth is still in there somewhere for others to make a judgement. A pastor would include their own personal beliefs in their political views, and if a reporter doesn't agree with the War on Iraq then why wouldn't they criticize it? It's only natural. (I would have quoted this, but for some reason whenever I try to quote Mike the part where you press 'post message' or whatever does not pop up. Weird)

To add, at least in my mind, when it comes to politics, it's either centrist or shading to the right. I've found "What Liberal Media?" (the Bible, apparently, for left-wing media critics) to be full of some serious horseshit in spots. And he also deregulates himself after an extended period of time to a non-funny Al Franken. Does it bring up good points? Yes, which I've used on the board before. But there are some Ann Coulter-level mistruths in there. It's not even funny. Let's just go ahead and say that EVERY study that shows journalists vote Democratic by an 80%+ clip. I have a simple question for you: Let's say a black man is accused of murder. Let's say the detective is known to, in the past, have uttered racist words and engaged in racist behavior. Would you assume that the officer could put his prejudices aside and be impartial in his job? -=Mike Mark Fuhrer? While it is very possible that the black man could have committed the murder and that the detective had undergone a fair and impartial investigation, it would be asinine for anyone involved in trying to solve the case to let him handle it as his credibility is obviously gone and that odds are his opinion might just be a tad skewed. I wouldn't trust him personally, especially due to the behaviour part. Racist words are one thing, to act on it is another. But what kind of question is that? Would you trust a KKK member to come up with a fair and impartial hearing as to what the extent of punishment should be for some black guy that was jaywalking? Doubtful.

7 Teens Killed During Police Car Chase

Maybe I'm just idealistic, but whatever happened to redemption? You can be callous and say these "stupid shits" deserved it, but in all honesty don't you think it's a tad over the line to say that all other "stupid shits" should be dragged with them? Is there the *slightest* possibility that others can change their ways before something terrible happens and grow up, or would it just satisfy you personally to hear that more teenagers are dying? I didn't throw innocent in there, because they're not. It's just that I find it a little scary that you think a suitable punishment for these other people who have yet to outright harm someone is for them to die.

    For those who like Bush...

I love this. "Simple as that! You're gonna hear this giant sucking sound, see? Simple as that! It's just that simple!" Looks like our brave little molestomp is going to grow up to be Ross Perot without the money. Or the charisma, the intelligence, the good looks, and fashion sense... Wait, Ross Perot's good looking now? While I may disagree with him on a few things, I still think Bush was a better choice than Gore, if only for the fact that he seems to be a lot charismatic. He's got the "intangibles" down, and I think someone else on this board said something like how they might not vote for him, but they'd like to have him over for dinner. Pretty much my feelings on the matter. But what do I know? I'm Canadian.

MJB just goes on and on and on and on....seriously, someone needs to tell him to shut the fuck up. He just seems to write pages and pages of bullshit. Choken One is useless. Just offers no purpose at all. I have no problem with Kotz. It's nice to see that at a board dominated with Rock/Metal tastes in music that at least someone listens to the dance. He still didn't answer my question what he's into specifically though. Punk. I never knew you asked me specifically what I liked. Sorry. Christ that's a long list. I'm not into house that much, but I can dig it. Since I'm not into it hardcore, I don't know many bands and albums, but rather singles and such that you'd hear in a club, party, etc. What got me into the whole thing was back in the day, Armand Van Helden, and Daft Punk. Van Buuren? We talking about the same guy? I was just saying, that the only reason that most of the people mock you is because you're into the whole dance thing, but really, most of those people just don't get the whole point of dance music; to socialize and have a good time baby! That's the way I see it anyway. Oh yeah, I didn't win an award.

Really? Like who? The first people that come to mind are TSA and that Patrick Ewing Rules kid. Did you know that TSA loves sex? OMG IV JROPT A BOMSHEL~!!!!~!!@!!!$!!^!!! I don't know much about "Patrick Ewing Rules Guy", but anyone that thinks Patrick Ewing rules can't be all that bright. Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention Michael Joel Benoit, Choken One, and Kotzenjunge in that same breath. P. Diddy to Star in 'Raisin in the Sun'

His role consisted of him getting electrocuted. He only got good reviews because people were like, "Man...go see Monster's Ball. Halle Berry has a sex scene, and Puff Daddy gets electrocuted!" Yeah, it had nothing to do with her oscar winning performance. EVERYONE was just interested in her sex scene. This movie will probably suck.

    How was your year?

I learned many life lessons, in more peculiar ways, some involving me stripping in front of my English Class, others involving me getting chased by two police helicopters with infra red spotlights. I think I am honestly the only person who will settle down at the ripe old age of 16-17. I need something to fill in the gaping hole left by this decision. Sex seems to be the only option at this point.

    UFC 47

I don't know what everyone else is talking about, I think Tito will be able to handle Chuck pretty easily. Chuck is essentially worthless on his back, and once Tito gets him there, it will be over quickly by G and P. I still won't believe it's gonna happen until Big John tells them to "Get it on". I think the only reason Tito even accepted the fight is because Chuck has lost twice now. Arlovski-Sylvia should be interesting, I really have no clue as to who will win since the UFC is like another language to me. To translate, I need to know how they stack up against PRIDE competition to judge them fairly. Since Rizzo knocked out Arlovski, I'd guess that Sylvia will do the same. I'm still waiting for Rizzo-Sylvia anyway.

Why ALL guys should (and WANT) go to NYU

I've never heard of the Descartes, so I'll assume you mean the Euclid. If admissions ask for certain range regarding your grades, and your grades are within that range, are you a shoo-in for the program? This is more of a general question really. I'm assuming the guy at your work is talking about program. The only thing I'm worried about is what you can do with a degree, and this seems to open many doors. My grades aren't high enough for the Double Degree unfortunately, but I'll apply anyway, just in case.

Why ALL guys should (and WANT) go to NYU

Time to pimp the alma mater, I guess... If you want engineering, then Waterloo is one of the places you should consider, along with Toronto and Queen's. Waterloo's Comp Eng prograam is cutting edge. Plus, you have the co-op program, so you get real work experience as well as a degree. (Bad part about that is that you don't get summers off. Good part about that is you get to go to summer school, which is awesome.) For the other program, Waterloo also has a Math/Business program, run jointly with Wilfrid Laurier University. One of the co-op students who's here is in this program, and he speaks very highly of it. You come out of it with a degree in Mathematics/Business Administration. Not that I know of. You may want to check the library for books on Canadian universities. They may not rank schools, but they'll have info on that kind of stuff. I knew that Waterloo was high on engineering, perhaps even moreso than Toronto. I live in Toronto, so I see no point in going to Queens when I have just as good a university over here. I was reading up on the Math/Business Admin. double degree, which is different then what you were telling me. I think I can be accepted, but the problem is how much consideration does the university take regarding the stupid Waterloo Math Contest? Pascal, or Euclid or whatever? I'm pretty sure it's been around for a long time....

Why ALL guys should (and WANT) go to NYU

http://www.macleans.ca/universities/index.jsp I think he meant rankings for the *real* criteria that is used when deciding on a university. I'm sure he did, but those were most likely the rankings Bob was talking about. Of course, Bob's university IS in the gay section of Toronto, so anything's possible, I guess. I recall reading in another thread that you graduated from mathematics or something or other at U of Waterloo. I'm thinking of taking either engineering or something heavily- math oriented in commerce, but not some ghey-ass economics arts degree. Sort of like accounting, but, well, not. Any advice to offer? I realize that this is sort of like a PM, but I'm sure there are others that might be interested, so you can answer it in here if you like......or not at all, but that's just mean. Is there a ranking for Canadian Universities like this one, where they talk about partying, drinking, whatever?

    Help me get into K-1

I've been watching for a bit, but I'm new to K-1. I have a question though; are the Hoost-Sapp fights worked? I can't imagine a guy like Hoost losing to Sapp twice, and I'm sure most others can't either. Especially since Cro Cop handled Sapp in short order.

I never got the whole "Christopher Reeve is an asshole" theory employed by the "Greatest Web Page In The Universe", among others. This too surprises me, as he never really seemed like a hippie before. In fact, watching his standup, he seemed to knock women and immigrants a bunch, making PETA seem like a no-no for him. But he is a dumbass.
