Pitchfork's revised 100 Best Albums of the 90's.
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Edwin MacPhisto's topic in Music
I was just about to say that the two things I noticed about this list that were different were that there's a lot more hip hop, and that a lot of mainstream albums were pushed higher, most notably REM and Smashing Pumpkins. I love both albums, and Siamese Dream is one of my favourites, so it's all good with me. I do have to agree with Edwin that Achtung Baby should be somewhere on there. There are still a few albums that I'd have put in there, but than I'm not surprised that they aren't there and I'm not complaining. Good list, but I have a question; why is it that the first list was so much more obscure than this one, and why were albums that were like top twenty in the other one pushed far lower or even off the list entirely? Odd to say the least, I guess they have a lot of new writers that are more mainstream-friendly or something. -
No, I just felt like putting that in as sort of a comparison type thing. An opening. Looking at it, it sort of does look confusing, but point is I got both at the same time, since I had been wanting to get both for awhile, just never did, for whatever reason. I don't think The Cure are nearly as good as what I've heard, and The Smiths definitely lived up to the hype. I swear I had heard "Making Plans" many times before, but I just never knew who had played it. I'm positive it's been featured in a bunch of movies, because there was a subconscious vibe when I had d/l it. As it stands, it's pretty damn good. Speaking of bands that released their "Greatest" stuff in the 80s, what you guys think of Talking Heads and Sonic Youth? Those albums were put ahead of the Fucking Pixies on that Pitchfork list, although I know that list should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it's worth finding out whether or not they actually are better.

Same-sex bathrooms at U of Chicago
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Swift Terror's topic in General Chat
This title confused me. Aren't same-sex washrooms what we have now? -
I meant albums, How Soon Is Now is pretty much their biggest hit, so yeah I heard that long ago. Didn't really realise how good they were till the Queen Is Dead though.

The fact that so many people on here want guns scares me, especially the kid who wants a rabbit to explode. Okay it doesn't scare me, but I'm thankful for not being an idiot.
-
I was kinda disappointed as the match I was looking forward to see the most wasn't even on; Rizzo and Ricco. From World HW Champ to dark matches, what a drop. Rizzo is probably going to win the HW Title soon, I don't think there's anyone in the UFC that can beat him.
-
So you have a gun from a friend who said he'd give it to you when he went to jail, as if it was inevitable. Since he still had the gun, I'm assuming he went to jail for other reasons, making you an idiot for taking it...
-
Way to go, champ! She's almost yours! I thought he said she always mentioned your name when talking to others? Or perhaps I've read too much of this. I thought I was immature, but you seem to behave like you're twelve. I mean really, that's just the way you come off as. As long as that 'A' in Berkeley is working out for you though, in ADVANCED English, than I'm sure you have no worries my friend....

White Judge Draws Fire for Costume
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
If you dress as a thug, you will be treated as one. -=Mike If you dress as a convict in black face, you will be treated like one By the way, it's a style of clothing. It's not you wear baggy pants to be treated as a thug, thugs just happen to wear it. Most of the time they're just teenagers out for a good time. They're not out to hurt anybody. It's more or less a culture. The common misconception is that killing people is part of that. It isn't. I will agree though, it's stupid for a grown man to wear pants below his ass. Much like it's stupid for a grown man to rip up his jeans and dress all dirty ON PURPOSE. -

I know what you're saying. The kind of fools that think you need live instruments to make music. Also. if they're dressed in a way that is like "all those thugs on TV" than they're intimidating and that they MUST be up to no good. I mean seriously, it's just a style of clothing man. I don't wear it because I personally think I'd look stupid, but if it works for you, go for it. -
Who are the most narrow minded music fans?
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Damaramu's topic in Music
Jim Morrison's retarded ass poetry is well, retarded. Don't know how anyone can like it but eh, don't bother me none. I can't stand fans that make generalizations about other groups of fans, for that very reason. So no, that's not a generalization, but rather a criticism of all of you. Yeah you. If I can't stand the music, most of the time the fans don't care. It's all good. -

Thanks. Of course, I was in college at the time, so the desire for a serious job was lacking. But, hey, whatever floats your boat. I find that VERY hard to believe. I mean the whole you having a friend thing. Black customers tend to be both. Call it offensive and stupid if you wish. I find idiocy offensive and stupid, yet I tolerate you. Oooh, burn. If I don't, will that make you leave faster? Not really. High school groups were easily worse than blacks. If more than half of any of the groups were like that, I'd agree. Nah. You'd be ragged on for being an idiot. And the comment would simply be another grain of sand in the desert of your idiocy. No right to civility. And you really are an insufferable putz. College for the waiting tables. Now? What would be the point of even saying? To impress you? For you to claim I'm lying? How 'bout this --- I'm doing something I enjoy more than you enjoy what you do. And, no, I do not care what you do. Please don't enlighten us to it. Hmm, tell a white or Asian child who gets rejected from an elite college that accepted a black or Hispanic with lower credentials that it isn't racism. -=Mike ...Quite frankly, the things that make you wonder might be contained inside the Grand Canyon with some effort. You were in college? Well I was and still am in high school. That's no excuse. "I mean the whole you having a friend thing." Still haven't stopped with the pointless flames eh? "Black customers tend to be both." Okay. It's only more than half from your experiences you know. From my experience, I've only experienced racism from white people, never black, Chinese, Hispanic, etc. So is it alright for me to say that only white people are racist? Seems to be accurate considering everything that's happened to me. Nice metaphor about *insert flame here*. "Insufferable putz"? Umm, yeah. I'm seriously curious. No relevance to the discussion, just asking. I'm not stupid enough to think that everyone on the internet is a 35 year old loser living in their parents' basement. You really don't have to be so defensive. Like I said I'm in high school, like everyone else my age. I have a job outside of it but that's not really what I *do*. It's interesting that you had believed that I was older with an actual job. At least that's the impression that I got, otherwise you probably would have made some witty comment about how I'm soon to be a dropout and work at McDonald's, or something to that effect. From this point on, can we stop with the name-calling? It's useless and only serves to...well, I really don't know. It's annoying to have to sift through that crap, because I realized a lot of what I replied to was flaming on your part. If you feel like making another witty comment, feel free. Hmm, tell that to an Asian kid eh? *Looks around* Oh wait, *I* am an Asian kid. Tell ME that, but I'll say it doesn't matter since my grades are high enough to get into wherever I want. Of course, I don't want to say anything because I don't need to feel better about myself by posting it on here. I can tell you this much; I don't know of any case where a white person won't be admitted because of affirmative action. Unlike what people think, it's almost never a case where it's one on one and they have to choose, if anything they'll probably choose both. That's what most of the university admissions people have said when they had come to my school, but what do they know eh? On the flipside, try telling me that it's alright to put people in the same mold where I've received lots of prejudice and problems because of the colour of my skin. Like I said before, I don't need any sympathy because I can deal with it. Some can't, and it's ignorant to think that this sort of behaviour doesn't affect anyone. Of course you can just laugh at this and tell me how wrong I am, but whatever. A Grand Canyon joke? Sure. -

You don't deserve it. Why use the primo material on you? And you are why I don't mind insulting people over the internet. Because many of them have the intellectual capacity of a not-too-bright rock. Congrats be to you. Nah, just stating the truth. It isn't always easy. Acceptance is the first step in fixing a problem. Seeing as how you apparently never served, yes. Oh, sorry, please refer me to ANY post where I said I REFUSED to serve them. I din't WANT to --- nor did blacks --- but we DID do it. Blithering idiot. I suppose I'm almost approaching your level --- but that is a pretty high standard you set there. Actually, I didn't --- but I'm not in the mood to post an entirely monosyllabic post where you might be able to follow along. -=Mike "Primo" material? That's a good excuse. I'll say this much; I had the opportunity to get a job as a server, but turned it down in favour of getting a *real* job. A friend of mine was working there, and had never told me about any problems he has had with blacks, or has never said that they tip poorly. You claimed that "black people are a pain in the BUTT" and that they were "lousy tippers". I don't know, seems pretty offensive and stupid to me. I have the intelligent capacity of a "not-too-bright" rock? As opposed to a "bright" rock? Seriously, shut up. Just shut up. Oh I'm sorry, refused is the wrong word. You seemed to single out black people, especially with the comments I used before. Of course there are stupid black people, just like there are stupid white people, stupid asians, etc. I'm sure white trash are stupid customers too, so does that mean that "White people are a pain in the BUTT"? See, if I were to make a blanket statement like "White people are a pain in the BUTT" (pain in the BUTT?), than everyone would jump on me for being racist. Rightfully so. Blithering idiot? Okay. Don't deserve civility? Did I "lose" that "right" somewhere? The nerd comment is essentially "I know you are but what am I". Right up there with your "rock" joke. Just out of curiousity, how old were you when you worked in the restaurant, and what do you do for a living now? EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to add that Brian is perfectly right. When all the white people that actually use these stereotypes start to affect my life, than it pisses me off and forces me to change in order to deal with it in a calm sort of way. Of course, I don't ask for sympathy nor do I ask for someone else to care, but when I see others that feel that racism is actually working in the opposite way, I really tend to wonder where they came up with this sort of thing. -

Cool, I guess I'm a racist, too. When I worked customer/food service there was an disproportionate number of black customers that I wanted to hit in the face with a shovel. I got a complaint lodged against me one time because I told a black woman with three kids running around like NEANDRATHALS and banging on a glass display if she could make them stop doing that. There are a number of other instances that I can recall when dealing with blacks, but I'm too lazy to type them (there's the time I got another complaint because I told this black couple that our nacho machine was closed down for the evening -- another oldie but goldie)... Honest question: Did you ever think about not serving black people at all because of this? Just because of those customers whom you thought were stupid? -

Your Paragon of Virtue replied to EdwardKnoxII's topic in Current Events
Because you tend to be a blithering idiot. And a quivering bowl of jello when it comes to ANYTHING in the same ballpark as a differing viewpoint. But, hey, cowardice and idiocy works well for some people. I mean, not for YOU, but for others... I simply stated WHY blacks get "poor service" in restaurants. Again, BLACK SERVERS don't want to wait on black tables. But I suppose they're racists too, huh? What a moron. How 'bout you spend a few minutes a day in the real world? It'll be an eye-opener. -=Mike ...Your seldom-made appearances only serve to disprove the notion of "absence makes the heart grow fonder" So much for civility. Quivering bowl of jello? LAME. See, this is why I don't bother insulting people over the internet. It's useless and it's not like it's worthwhile. If you think about it, you don't hurt my feelings. So the only two options left are: a) You make yourself feel better or b) You try to impress people that you'll never even meet with your "wit". Hopefully you at least accomplished the former. Coward and an idiot? Yeah, that fits me to a *T* Wait, wait, wait. You talk about how black people are a "pain in the BUTT" and how they "tip poorly", yet *I* am the one who has to get out in the real world? My God that's some terrible logic. "Listen son. You seem to NOT judge someone based on the colour of their skin. Get out in the real world and see how wrong you are." By the way, I'd eat a bullet if I refused to serve people of my own race based on...well, nothing. "Your seldom-made appearances only serve to disprove the notion of 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' " This has no relevance, but dude, how much of a nerd are you? Bottom line: You justified not serving blacks in restaurant. That's just...wrong. -
I might have to watch it again. However, it seemed that Nog was, at the very least, stunned, which would give Cro Cop the chance to lay in the lefts for the ref stoppage. At the very least, the break allowed him to recover from the high kick on top of all the other punishment he took. Nog wasn't stunned. He seemed to gain his composure fairly quickly and he tried to get Cro Cop in the guard so many times in the round that Cro Cop would probably have been reluctant to try it again. Of course the break allowed him to recover. He would have still recovered since he would've held Cro Cop in the guard and stalled for a bit, although that's admittedly speculation. But as it is, the whole purpose of changing the round is for the guys to recover anyway Man that emoticon looks stupid.

Is Nathan Jones the worst wrestler ever?
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Use Your Illusion's topic in The WWE Folder
Did Nathan Jones play Suge Knight in a shitty made for TV movie about MC Hammer's career filled with actors on par with Tony "Big T" Norris? Don't think so. Seriously though, how low does it get when Ahmed Johnson is one of the main characters in a movie? He doesn't even have any star power so the only reason left would be....acting ability. -

I don't bother arguing about racism with Mike. Once he willingly admitted to being encouraged to not serve blacks at a restaurant he once worked, and than tried to justify it with blatantly racist remarks (although he'll probably shoot back with how they're not racist and how *I* am the ignorant one for insulting his fair and balanced beliefs), my insensitive ass tiptoed out of the room and let someone else who gave a shit handle it. I mean really dude, what the fuck were you thinking when you said all that? And you were being SERIOUS? -
Cro Cop/Nog and Yoshida/Silva were very similar if you think about it, both great fights about stand up versus grappling, domination versus grace, etc. etc. Yoshida impressed the hell outta me, and I have to say I don't cry work anymore. Liddell, Herring, and especially Randleman definitely disappointed me. Herring should've finished him quick time, and had he done so they probably would've been able to show the fight on PPV. What was up with Liddell? It was like he was just asking for a beating, and was outclassed by Rampage in every possible way. Randleman is a classic case o wasted potential, as he could be great if only wasn't such a fucking idiot sometimes. He should've murdered Saku but as usual, he beat himself. He was killing him standing up, and he should've kept it that way. I'm just happy for Dan Henderson, since everybody was saying how he was going to be submitted, and that he was coming off surgery so he will have a tough time. He's a world class wrestler people, Busta won't just take him down at will. Dan also showed off his superior striking skills with that sick knee. I hope if they ever have another Pride Bushido show, that he's involved.
-
I don't think he would've finished him off. Nog looked ready enough to hold him in the guard, and when he *thought* the match was over, he was complaining because he was still ready, as he was. It wouldn't have ended. After all, the beatings he took from Sapp and Fedor showed that he has no quit is pretty much impossible to be knocked out, at least in my humble opinion. I might however, be a tad biased. And yeah, what everyone else said about Takyama getting his ass kicked. You can call it warrior spirit, but if you just keep getting the shit kicked out of you, what's the point?

Obviously, the melting pot theory. Diversity is fine in a limited sense, but Americans must be Americans first and foremost. No fucking hyphenation. You're not an African-American or a Moslem-American or a Hindoo-American or an Asian-American or a Martian-American. You're one or the other. You're with us or against us. Choose. Or you're a Canadian Concerning myself, I still show pride for my background but obviously I am a Canadian first and foremost, which is why I don't act like a FOB or anything like that. In fact, when there are groups of Tamil people playing cards at a table or something, I might just go slam the table and yell "FUCK TAMIL PEOPLE~!" Of course I have to know them, and they have to know that I'm Tamil too, since I don't feel like getting shot up or anything. I believe that it's possible to have the Melting Pot theory yet at the same time retain our diversity, because at least it's not complete assimilation. Anyone who believes in complete assimilation kind of scares me personally, because it's too intolerant and ignorant for my liking. -
OK, who's the best on the mic of all time
Your Paragon of Virtue replied to Toxxic's topic in The WWE Folder
Warrior, and Sid are the best at being bad. As in they're really emotional and try hard, but they're so bad they're brilliant. Guys like Malenko and umm, let's just say Saturn are just boring. Sid and Warrior have so much passion though, at least in their interviews. That's one thing I respect about those old steroid monsters from the eighties, in that their interviews were always interesting, as they always gave it a try, even if they sucked for the most part. I can't be the only one who enjoyed LOD or Tugboat promos. No money is made or anything, but that doesn't really matter for them. As far as people who are actually good on the mic, I'd have to say Foley and Roberts were the ones that I enjoyed the most personally. Than again, for the most part I've been a WWF mark so I haven't seen Flair, Anderson, etc. in their prime. Underrated: Bret Hart fo sho. All I can think of for now.
