Wow. What a turn of events.

Steve Yzerman was not only my favorite hockey player but my favorite athlete period. He was pretty much the main reason why I became a Red Wings fan. Of course this day was coming sooner rather than later but it still sucks. All I can say is thanks for a stellar career and for being a true role model for which any hockey player would aspire to be.

What a performance by Portugal's keeper to send England home.
-
France really redeemed themselves with this win though I don't see them beating Brazil.
-
What a shitty way to go out. Very questionable call there. I guess the ref really had no choice but still.

Looks like Pronger wants out of Edmonton:

Either Austin-Benoit from the 5/28/01 Raw or the Edge-Kurt Angle cage match from the 5/28/02 SmackDown. Both were pretty damn good for TV matches.

Pretty horrific giveaway led to that one. Anyway, game six should be another great game.

This was pretty damn funny.

This commentary is awesome. -
It's 5-0 and the Oilers are just getting embarrassed at this point.
-
They just said that Roloson is out for the series. Well, that pretty much ends the Oilers' hopes unless Conklin plays way over his head.
-
HOLY SHIT. Another unbelievable save by Ward.
-
A couple of very good twists in this episode. I can't wait to see how it plays out next season.

Nice little twist at the end tonight. Anyway, I'm hoping that Terry pulls it off. He deserves it not only for his play but his abilility to survive so long with his ass on the line pretty much every week. His argument with Aras tonight was classic. -
Flames fans are nowhere near close to the best fans in the league. They practically had to beg people to buy tickets. I'd give them appreciation, but I don't think the fans owe them anything. I agree with you completely about the fans. Most of my dislike for the Flames has to do with their bandwagon fans. The team was just about gone from the city and the only time the fans started to give a shit anymore was when they got good again, which is crap.

Agreed. It would have been nice for the fans to at least acknowledge the fine season the team had up until that point. Winning the Northwest alone was quite an accomplishment. I'm sorry, the fans don't have any obligation to the players when the players play like that and vice versa. Yes, I'm saying that even though I went to the last home game for the Kings and Luc Robitaille's final game in LA. I don't think winning a division means anything anymore. I spend too much money on my hockey team and always regret it when I get home, but when I pass up the chance to go, I regret it. After this season, I feel like I deserve a refund, and I'm sure Calgary fans feel the same. So I guess the fans should just take for granted that the Flames are actually worth watching again and give them no support or appreciation for playing well this season. As someone mentioned previously in the thread, even the Rangers got a standing ovation from their fans at their last game so why wouldn't the supposed best fans in hockey (as some people claim) do the same? The fans have a right to be pissed but turning their backs on them after a tough loss is pretty poor. I was plenty pissed that Detroit once again bowed out early but I also accepted that Edmonton played better and earned it. And hey, the beauty of sports is that there's always next year.

Congrats to the Oilers. They played their asses off and earned the win, but I'm getting pretty fucking sick of giving other teams props for beating the Wings early in the playoffs. How you can blow a 2-0 lead so quickly in the third, get the lead back and lose it again is mind boggling, but all credit in the world to the Oilers for pulling it off. The Wings really need to find some younger, faster players to complement their core of young talent (ie Zetterberg and Datsyuk). Also, while Legace played decent, it was not good enough most times so a new goaltender may be needed. As much as I respect the veterans and all they've done, they simply are not cutting it anymore.
-
Oh yeah, it would be nuts in this city but again, it's not the outcome I'm hoping for.
-
As good as a Flames-Oilers matchup would be, I'm praying that Detroit puts that possbility to rest in the next few days. The veterans need to provide the grit and leadership and the young guys need to provide the offense, otherwise it's another year of disapoinment.

Seriously, what the fuck have the Bills been doing today? They could have had Matt Leinart and instead make a pick that has everyone scratching their heads. I'm not saying that Leinart would save the franchise or anything, but he would most likely be an improvement over Holcomb and Losman.

Looks like it's going to be another early exit for the Wings, unless they play two flawless games. It's very frustrating to have all the regular season success and then do jack shit in the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, if Edmonton wins they deserved it with the way they played but it doesn't make that any easier to accept.

Huge win for the Wings tonight. They really need to carry this momentum over to Saturday and put the Oilers on the ropes.
