    Desert Island Draft

Since I think I'm going to start dating myself in the next couple of rounds, let's get my second and I think final wrestling pick out of the way first. WCW Saturday Night A deep, rich history of awesomely ridiculous gimmicks (I'm assuming, and hoping, I get a shit ton of The Gambler and Roadblock here) and quick undercard matches mixed in with periods of actual relevance, from a promotion I never delved deep into so I'm sure I'll find a lot of stuff to entertain me, both in terms of legitimately good stuff and in terms of stuff like Chuck Palumbo pretending to be Tarzan.

    Alternate movie draft

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind My favorite film of all time. I'm not the sort who rewatches movies often, but I saw this three times in theaters when it came out and always found something new to focus on and appreciate. And, really, the level of talent of the people making it says it all; Michel Gondry as director, Charlie Kaufman as writer, and Jon Brion as the composer, with the cast being fucking fantastic, especially Jim Carrey whose omission from the Oscars despite putting on the performance of his life was a huge crime. There's absolutely no way I could have picked anything other than this first, really.

... fuck, nice one. I completely forgot about Behind the Music.

    Desert Island Draft

Right! So. Since I've gotten some of my absolute favorite television shows and have accounted for music. So what I think I'm lacking right now is stuff I've seen, but not seen enough of, because I'd like to at least have some stuff I haven't seen before on the island (aside from music videos). As such, my next pick is... The Larry Sanders Show Because I've seen the entire first season and love it, because I lack a live-action TV comedy (unless you count Dead Like Me, and okay there's Monty Python, but I'm not thinking in terms of sketch comedy here), and because, I mean, really, the cast includes pretty much some of my favorite character actors of all time. I'm willing to take a chance on this one.

Shit, nice one with Whose Line, I didn't even think of that. Okay, so the sitcom I wanted and the superhero cartoon I wanted were both taken before I could go with them, so let's just sidestep off the beaten path again, and go with... 120 Minutes Two hours of alternative music videos on a weekly basis for seventeen years. This'll pretty much keep me set for music on the island for sure.

... drat and double drat. The first half or so of That '70s Show is a very worthy addition to any roster, and Justice League was the other Timmverse show I was considering.

... dammit, I was hoping nobody would think of Jeopardy as I'd come up with it the other day. Well played.

    Desert Island Draft

I think it's time we blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three, two, one, let's jam. Cowboy Bebop Yeah, I probably could have waited a couple rounds on this one, but much like Daria I didn't want to risk what I perceived to be the very, very, very slight chance that someone else might snag it first. I'm not sure if I'll take any other anime series this entire draft, but Bebop is pretty much the best anime series ever so it's not like I really need another to begin with; it's a brilliant ode to all things Western culture (westerns, blaxploitation, jazz, rock and roll, and so on) with brilliant (mostly) self-contained episodes and the single best original score I've ever heard for any television series. I could seriously rewatch scenes for the sole purpose of listening to the accompanying music, which makes it worth bringing on to an island by itself. Combined with an absolutely amazing series and this was a pretty easy pick, and one I've been waiting to make for a couple of rounds now.

I try to do it myself, though sometimes I forget (I'd actually forgotten about it entirely until Canadian Brandon PMed me the round before last).

Well! If wrestling counts (I wasn't sure) then, I should make my Token Wrestling Pick sooner rather than later. Raw's gone, Nitro's gone, so I guess logically that means that I should go for... ECW Hardcore TV ECW has always remained this sort of curiosity to me. It wasn't exactly before my time (I started watching wrestling in 1999), but I wasn't truly aware of its existence other than being "that one hardcore promotion" until after its death, and I've always enjoyed what I've seen quite a bit (not to mention the WWE DVD release on it, which I found to be fantastic and engaging). So, with seven years' worth of material to look into with that program and all the time in the world to look into it, I figure this would be as good an opportunity as any.

So. When you were thinking about these lists, was there like that one show where you know it probably remain unpicked for a while but even so, you still had to get it early just in case? Yeah. So this one's one of mine. Daria By far one of my favorite animated shows of all time; if you were to take a list of the shows I enjoyed watching ten years ago and which of those shows I still enjoy watching now, the list would probably consist of just The Simpsons and this. Brilliantly acerbic and witty and another show that even when it started faltering in the last two seasons it was still miles ahead of nearly every other animated series of its time (and the ones it weren't ahead of have pretty much all been picked by now anyway); I rewatched one of the second season episodes just last Friday and it was every bit as funny as I remember it being, and seeing as I can't watch shows like All That or Kenan and Kel without cringing these days, that's an achievement for sure.

Dead Like Me One of the most wonderful, perfect shows ever created, with its only major strike against it for this being that it's just two seasons long. But for the level of quality it had, I'm willing to take just those two seasons over a show with more longevity but without the fantastic characters and amazing ability to be hilarious one minute and heartbreaking the next that Dead Like Me had.

... oh god, Daily Show. I was seriously hoping nobody would think of that until I got my next pick.

I like the early seasons of MASH from what I saw of it but all of the later stuff I saw bored me (basically, the moment Trapper John left and was replaced by that other guy). I heavily doubt it'll make my list unless I seriously completely run out of ideas.

And now for something completely different. IT'S... Monty Python's Flying Circus SNL definitely has longevity on its side, and one can't argue with the sheer depth of material there. I wish I could have snagged it first. However, in terms of pure quality? There isn't a single sketch comedy program I would take over Python, man. Not a one. Absolutely fantastic, everything good comedy should be.

... they seriously have only a five to six page script? That's kind of amazing.

Man, I was thinking about The Wire but since I still haven't even finished the third season I didn't feel right picking it. I knew it'd be gone first-round, though.

    Desert Island Draft

Shit, I was hoping to get MST3K in the second round. First round, brutal. Anyway, instead of going for one of my favorite comedies in round one, I went with probably my favorite drama of all time instead. The Sopranos God, what do you even say about The Sopranos that hasn't been said before and better? I don't even know but I'll utter some half-finished sentences anyway. Even when it lost some steam in the sixth season it was still fantastic television with some of my favorite characters of all time (even if most of the ones I loved had an unfortunate tendency of getting killed off). Also? Some of the best song choices in TV history; "Thru and Thru" by the Rolling Stones for the season two ending montage was pure class. Everything that a great TV drama should be, and it really set the bar for everything this decade in my opinion.

I've always sort of wanted to do one of these. In. I've never done a draft thing before so expect huge initial retardation on my part, but I assure you, I'll learn.

Reaper surviving is all I needed to know, as now all of the shows I watch (Chuck, Reaper, The Office, Pushing Daisies) are coming back next season. Good news, good news.

    OAO Anime/Manga Thread

There are only twenty-six episodes. That's how long most anime series'/seasons run, with some exceptions (Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi only had fourteen).

    Whats Ultimo Dragon Upto Nowadays?

Ultimo Dragon has nothing to do with Dragon Gate; when they changed their name from Toryumon to DG that was primarily because they were no longer affiliated with him. He still runs his gym in Mexico and they hold occasional Toryumon shows down there, I think, and he may or may not still occasionally run shows in Japan. I wouldn't know because DGUsa doesn't cover any of it anymore.
