    Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

The Fey and Bon Jovi interviews were fun, but man was everything else awkward. The Facebook stuff was cringeworthy, the Bloomberg stuff was mildly funny, showing internet videos is just like one of the lowest forms of comedy much of the time, and I get the distinct impression I missed the chair segment and that's probably for the best (... and yet I will almost certainly end up watching it on Hulu anyway to see how bad it gets). EDIT: Admittedly, I did laugh at Fallon's introduction to the internet video thing where he started off with "as you know, this segment..." and then immediately riffed on himself or saying something that presumptuous on the second show.

    Late Night With Jimmy Fallon

I did. Objectively speaking he wasn't good, but considering it was his first night he showed some potential. His biggest enemy is going to be the fact that he's quite clearly one of those guys who has a thought, begins to try to articulate it in words, and then sort of loses sight of how to complete that thought halfway through (which I can sympathize with because I'm one of those people too). I'm still baffled that he'd choose to interview Robert De Niro first. Your first night on the job and the first guy you choose to interview and you go with a guy who's not exactly known for being chatty in that format? He was far more comfortable when interviewing Justin Timberlake, unsurprisingly enough since they had done so much stuff on SNL together in the past. EDIT: Yeah, the "Lick It for Ten" thing was really odd. It seems like the sort of thing you'd do a couple months in when you're out of fresh ideas, not on the first night. I guess they needed a way to fit in product placement for that printer.

    30 Rock

Eh, overall I actually think it was one of the weaker episodes in recent memory but Larry King was excellent and his stuff with Tracy made the episode. Outside of that, the best gag was probably Liz trying to bullshit that "99 Luftballons" was the lullabye her grandmother used to sing to her. Well, really, at least half of the episodes have nothing to do with her character beyond a couple of minor gags so that's nothing new. The Janice Joplin thing is really the only notable plot she's had all season.

    ODB's Boyfriend

Cody Deaner is awesome. I mean, I've never seen him wrestle but I've thoroughly enjoyed every YouTube video I've seen of the dude portraying his character.

    Jeff Jarrett was the coolest

That song was hilarious because the lyrics were so completely, thoroughly bad. I'm like 90% sure there was seriously a line in it that was like "'cause badasses, always kicking asshole's ass!" Like, I hated when he had "Rollin'" as his theme but compared to "You're Gonna Pay" it was a work of genius.

Sidekick named for "Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien"

Did you been watch the opening credits for the last week of Late Night? Basically every time Joel made some sort of interjection basically implying how many days left he had on the job. It's unfortunate, because it'll take me forever to get used to Conan's name not being said in that way Joel did it where he pronounced "Brien" like it was two separate words, and Joel was just a hilarious addition to any skit he was in. But if not Joel, then Conan and Andy together again I'm very, very cool with and maybe Joel can be flown crosscountry to fill in if ever necessary. (Or so I can dream.)

    CHIKARA King Of Trios 2009

Two spots left, which is going to be interesting. One of the two has to be the UnStable, the other is completely up in the air. If they wanted to add another CHIKARA squad (which I wouldn't be adverse to at all given how many outsider teams are already in) it could be a combination of Cheech and Cloudy, Hydra, Jigsaw, and Tim Donst, or alternatively there isn't a single team from Japan entered, which is shocking for a CHIKARA tourney as they almost always have one Japanese representative except for the YLC tournament.

    2009 Oscar prediction contest

I knew about the Frost/Nixon interviews because of a Political Science class I took where the teacher showed some of it. I kind of thought Nixon's "if the President does it it's not illegal" was like a pretty famous quote, though. I guess I'm wrong?

    2009 Oscar prediction contest

Honestly, I don't care how iconoclastic this is to say on a wrestling board, but Sean Penn deserved that Oscar just as much as Rourke did. I was pulling for Rourke to win, but Penn was exceptional too and was a close second. If Brad Pitt had won I would have been pissed, but I can live with this, whatever.

I also think he thanked his pencil, so basically it's going to be the acceptance speech to beat this year.

    2009 Oscar prediction contest

I'm so glad the Oscars has the time to show us clips from classic films like Space Chimps and yet conversely Peter Gabriel's allotted time to perform the song he's nominated for was supposedly cut.

Milk was great, but I was hoping In Bruges would have won. Still, Dustin Lance Black's speech was fantastic and heartfelt.

Yeah, it's a nice thought but it's way too bloated to actually work.

    Val Venis to New Japan

Makabe, Yano, Iizuka, Ishii, Honma, Bernard, Anderson, Jado, Gedo, Black Tiger, and Val Venis. So that would be eleven. Which is pretty huge, but it kind of works for GBH because they're more of just one big mob than a polished wrestling stable. I wish Togi Makabe would win something important as a singles wrestler this year, though, especially after the pure idiocy that is having him take the fall against fucking Team 3D twice.

Best Live Show that you've attended

Top Five: 1. Wrestlemania XIX. I mean... well. It's Wrestlemania. Jericho vs. Michaels, Angle vs. Lesnar, the stunt show that was McMahon vs. Hogan, the amazing atmosphere... that was an experience, for sure. 2. RoH: Joe vs. Kobashi. Mostly a one-match show, but what a match it was. I got to fly crosscountry from Seattle to NYC to see it as an eighteenth birthday present, and man was it worth it. 3. Dragon Gate, 7/10/07. Featuring a one-night #1 contender's tourney that Taku Iwasa won and an absolutely fantastic tag match between CIMA and Matt Sydal and Speed Muscle, which ranks probably in the top five matches I've ever seen live. 4. NJPW, 7/6/07. The main event was Yuji Nagata vs. Togi Makabe for the IWGP Heavyweight Title and they had a fantastic, bloody brawl all over Korakuen Hall. The undercard wasn't great but Ryusuke Taguchi and Minoru had a good Jr. Title match, Dick Togo & TAKA Michinoku had a pretty fun Jr. Tag Title match against... I think it was Koji Kanemoto and Wataru Inoue, and everything generally worked. 5. WWE Smackdown, August 2002. My first wrestling show, and even though I was in the balcony the crowd was really hot and I got treated to The Rock vs. Chris Benoit in the main event, a rare Funaki pinfall victory (which was HUGE for me as I was a huge Funaki mark at that point in time), and what I think was the first time Los Guerreros ever teamed in WWE (and it was against Edge and Rey Mysterio, too).

"Don't matter who did what to who at this point. Fact is, we went to war and there ain't no turnin' back. I mean, shit, it's what war is, you know? Once you in it, you in it. If it's a lie, then we fight on that lie. But we gotta fight." Slim Charles ... so how many are we going to now, anyway?

    The Office Season 5

Line of the episode for me was Creed revealing that he's apparently been with Lynette Fromme. I will never get tired of learning more Creed backstory.

Yeah, everything except for the Pam/Jim subplot tonight was excellent. Stanley, Andy, and Dwight in particular were all in spectacular form.

    The Office Season 5

I want a series-long ban on any more Jim/Pam "OH MAN THINGS ARE GOING TO GO BAD oh wait no they love each other even more than before" plotlines unless they're using all of this to build up to them breaking up for real at the end of the season.

Most Intense, Passionate Promos of All Time

It was so good that Dan Maff all but stole it a year later and Chris Jericho used the same basic idea against Cena a couple months ago too. That promo was awesome.
