  1. I'm going to throw up here. How many guys are the Mets going to leave on base tonight?
  2. Oliver Perez is laughable. It's important -- extremely important -- the Mets win this one and possibly pull into a half game behind Philly. Milwaukee is suddenly hot again to the pleasure of nobody except Snuffbox.
  3. How pathetic. For every other team, it's pretty much like batting practice when it comes to facing Jason Marquis. The Mets give up a grand slam to him. I can't stand it.
  4. I'm lost, Smues. Are you intentionally spelling "Yankees" incorrectly as some type of inside joke and, if you are, what's the joke? I like jokes.
  5. ***** thread. Excellent.
  6. This bullpen is just astounding. You can't take an 8-3 lead and turn it into a squeaker against the Washington Nationals! Especially after just losing two straight games against them. A team that is inching ever closer to the 100-loss mark. They will not get away with this against the Cubs next week.
  7. Aaron Heilman does it AGAIN! Puts men on first and third with no outs in the eighth. He truly is useless, and I really need to question why Jerry Manuel would trust him in such a pivotal game.
  8. Well, I would have said things should have been steady last Wednesday when the Mets were three and a half games over the Phillies. By no means was it an insurmountable lead, but it was a sizable lead they choked up nonetheless.
  9. To watch the Mets do this again for a second straight year is truly amazing.
  10. I really wish the Mets would stop advertising registration for 2008 playoff tickets.
  11. The Mets are DYING to give away first place in the NL East. Six innings and they only have ONE HIT off John Lannan?! What is it about him that has led to six strikeouts so far?!
  12. Bob, I appreciate the sarcasm, but it isn't necessary here. At this point, things might be the rockiest for Obama as they have been since his campaign started. With McCain taking Palin, the hunt for Clinton's supporters has become an even bigger issue than it was before and Obama's numbers are struggling because it's come clear that he has not been able to unite the Democratic party after the divisive primary. So logically, it simply does not make sense for Biden to say that perhaps Obama was better served taking Hillary as his VP than himself. It serves no purpose. For Hillary's supporters, it doesn't placate them. It only serves to annoy them further that even Obama's OWN Vice Presidential candidate thinks he should have put her on the ticket. For Obama's supporters, it certainly doesn't sway them away from Barack, but it doesn't make him look any stronger either. And for McCain's supporters, this opens up another weak spot to exploit and try drawing away further Clinton supporters. I mean, all around, it was just a very, very silly comment to make. Especially at this time when the bid for Clinton's voters continues to look as though it will serve as the biggest determining X-Factor for who will win in November. And JOTW, yes, Biden was in a tough position but he could have said everything he said and still looked good if he just skipped the part about Hillary quite possibly being a better pick than him. All of his other comments would have sufficed in responding to the guy, yet it wouldn't have done any damage to the credibility of the ticket. I'm sure we'll all forget about these comments in a day or two, but it doesn't change the fact that they still weren't a smart thing to say.
  13. So how does Biden coming out and saying that Obama probably should have picked Hillary as his running mate instead HELP Obama's bid for the presidency? Bit of a boneheaded comment here.
  14. Mets open up their biggest lead of the season and sit 3 and a half games over Philly. The offense has really been looking good, and it's nice to see Wright have a breakout night again going 4 for 4. But, of course, if last season has shown us anything, there's still way too much baseball to be played.
  15. This is a bad time for the Mets starting pitching to suddenly become lackluster. The Nationals offense is not this good that both Oliver Perez and Mike Pelfrey have gotten tripped up over the past two days.
  16. Scott Boras can take his demands for a huge contract for Oliver Perez in the offseason and plead his case to the Yankees. The Mets need somebody way more consistent -- SEVEN earned runs to the Nationals in four innings?!
  17. Edited the title to avoid confusion when looking at the Current Events folder from the main forum page. Because I got confused.
  18. We don't need another pitcher coming fresh off surgery and not coming close to matching what he was before. Between Pedro and El Duque and Duaner Sanchez...I don't think I can stomach John Smoltz being added to the list for 2009. The Mets need to find a new closer in the market or, if necessary, try developing Brian Stokes in the closer spot for next year. He's already looking like he might have some crisp stuff that, with the right amount of work put in, could really pay off.
  19. It also appears she doesn't have quite the long, well-established history with the Wasilla Bible Church or the personal relationship with Larry Kroon that Obama had with the Trinity United Church and Reverend Wright. So perhaps....now, just work with me here....that might be the reason this won't become quite as much a lightning rod of controversy.
  20. And despite all these snarky comments, the point still remains -- Obama opened himself up for this attack by not choosing a woman as his VP, whether it was Hilary or Kathleen Sebelius or Claire McCaskill or Janet Napolitano or anybody else. If he would even make the effort NOW to say that some of these women would figure prominently into his cabinet once he is elected, he could minimize some of the damage here. It's a shame that the primaries with Clinton backed him into this corner but politically, it's a decision he should have made. We could sit here and talk about how it's unfair that women will vote for another woman just because she shares the same genitalia, and how these women must be idiots and banned from their right to vote because Palin shares absolutely none of their viewpoints, but it's ALL moot. The fact of the matter is that whether or not it's advisable that many women are using the gender card as the sole issue on which they are placing their vote, they are STILL going to do it regardless. And Obama needs to remedy this problem now with the last two months of the election. The short-sightedness Obama's campaign showed when it came to pandering to the women vote was a major, major flub. This is something I was able to predict would happen months ago.
  21. It was pretty well-established months ago that Obama could be making a huge mistake in alienating the 18 million people that voted for Hillary Clinton in the primaries by picking someone else as his Vice President. I am not surprised that McCain's poll numbers are up after picking Sarah Palin as his running mate. As far as women voters are concerned -- and I'm not saying I agree or disagree with this idea -- he chose to continue their fight in breaking the glass ceiling. And hey, although Obama has certainly thrown around some nice words to Clinton and her supporters since the primaries ended, actions speak louder than words. He really has not done much of anything to win support from these women again. He chose an older white male as his Vice Presidential candidate despite the numerous potentially qualified female options available for him -- and this is not about Biden's qualifications; he is indeed useful when it comes to Obama's weakness with foreign policy. He hasn't thrown Clinton's supporters a bone by telling them she could be in line for an important position in his cabinet if he were elected. He hasn't done anything besides convince Hillary and Bill to trot out and make speeches at the Democratic National Convention in a situation where it pretty much seemed clear their arms were twisted by the party. He took for granted that he would receive their votes because Hillary is a Democrat and he is a Democrat but -- and we all knew this when the Democratic primary was still going on -- the wounds from this Obama-Clinton conflict were a little deeper than normal. Right now, he has nobody to blame but himself for this predicament.
  22. My god. The Mets were only able to muster two singles off Jaime fucking Moyer. And you want to talk about how the CUBS are looking bad right now?!
  23. Spoken like a true jinx.
  24. If the Met offense plays the next two games against the Phillies the way they did tonight, you're going to have an awful lot of Mets fans screaming the sky is falling come Monday morning. Me included.
