The Illusionist. The Black Dahlia. Stranger than Fiction. Hostel 2. Evan Almighty. Madagascar 2. Only things I care about -- the rest just sounds sucky.

I might have the chance to see this tomorrow. Problem is, it would be with my family (mother, little sister, and I) so I am worried about the violence (lil sis is 12). I know they increased the rating to an R, but is it gory, or just a few bits of blood here and there? Our movie options are limited; it's either SoaP, Step Up, Pulse, Talladega Nights, or World Trade Center.

Tuesday 9:00 - House, M.D. ...What, you mean there's something else worthwhile on TV?

I'm up to episode 6 in Gantz, and while I enjoy the ideas presented and the visual style, the rest is just... confusing. The structure and pacing of the episodes, especially with flashbacks-within-flashbacks, is just headachey. What I've gathered so far is that people die, get sent to this room, participate in some cosplay-esque dress-up, kill savagely random aliens, get awarded points, and then they're sent back to life with the knowledge of what happened, whilst the rest of the world continues as if nothing happened. I've read from reviews that there's apparently some limit as to how far they can travel during their hunt - explaining the senator's head going pop-goes-the-weasel - and yet it seemed like Kei and 'Big Tits' ( ..that part of the scoring was great) could run for miles on end with no problems. I felt sorry for the small alien they were hunting; sure, he was gross, but he just wanted to eat onions! Sheesh... I'll check out the other titles mentioned. Paranoia Agent didn't seem too interesting, though. A kid on rollerblades and a gold bat? Er... okay, then.

Sharon Osbourne: I'll take "How many fingers" for $400, Alex! Trebek: -siiiiigh- How many fingers am I holding up on this hand? -holds up three fingers- Connery: I've got a finger for you, Trebek! -begins unzipping his pants, camera cuts to Trebek- Trebek: Okay, please don't cut to him. -Connery laughing in background- That's not a finger and you know it!

Newb to the thread. w00t. In an effort to further procrastinate my college work, I've watched a lot of anime recently (listed in order of viewing): Pet Shop of Horrors, DearS, Chobits, and I'm nearly finished with Elfen Lied. So far, Chobits is the only one that I could consider fluffy/romantic; DearS was to some extent, but I consider it now more or less a more sexual version of Chobits. Kinda like Elfen Lied is a more violent one; I read a review where it was termed "Chobits gone Guro". I enjoy these types of fantasy/sci-fi mature series, or any mature series in general -- any recommendations? And by 'mature', I don't mean hentai. I was thinking of Gatz, but the reviews for it don't seem to be good.

I'll wait to download it. While it seems entertaining and all, it's not something worth a movie ticket. The dvd should be hella awesome, though, with many features devoted to the 'net hype.

X3: Last Stand DVD Details and Covers
Yuna_Firerose replied to Yuna_Firerose's topic in Television & Film
For a comic published in the late 70s, the story had balls the size of church bells. It hasn't withstood the test of time because its been ripped off so many times since then. How so? Woman gets taken over by alien species/entity, becomes all powerful, kills things. I don't see how that would be such a big deal, even in the seventies. And where was it ripped off? I'm not trying to sound like I'm attacking you or anything -- I'm really curious. -
X3: Last Stand DVD Details and Covers

Then how come she just sides with Magneto and then doesn't do *anything* for like, half an hour? That's what bugged me the most; she's supposed to be so powerful, yet it seemed like there was a while in there that she didn't do a damned thing. This movie would've been 10X better if they left the Cure out, just went with the Phoenix, and then in X4 brought in the Cure as the public's reaction to the Phoenix. You mean Mutants can get THAT powerful? Better cure 'em. Yeah, I definetly agree. For most of the time all she did was stare off into space. Famke played the schizo angle well, or at least tried to - I heard she even did a bit of research - but it seems like it's all to waste. I watched some behind-the-scenes bit from moviebox where the interviewer asked what it was like to be back. Of course she replied with something like "It's just great" or "Oh, it's so awesome". Cut to a scene being filmed where she's on a hill, with the armed mutants running down the hill in front of her. Of course, she's staring off into space... After the director called cut, some extra audio was picked up -- something sarcastic like 'Oh, yeah, this really awesome' from Famke, before the camera cut away. -

I don't think anyone has yet to mention the comic books. The movie sucks for many other different reasons. One of which is the Phoenix, regardless of how faithful or unfaithful to the comics, is still major fanservice. She should've remained dead, in my opinion, as the Cure storyline was more than enough for the movie. It would've been better to see Scott less emo, too; show him distraught over her death by fucking up in training and battles and what not, possibly even turn to Magneto's side in the end. Since X4 is all but confirmed now, the Phoenix should've waited. -
X3: Last Stand DVD Details and Covers

-waves- Awww... I didn't know I was missed. ^.^ Yeah, the extras on the disc are, like, their last ditch effort to make any money. Let's throw it all out there! Then again, this guarantees that there won't be a Super Special Collector's Director's Pyro-Wearing-Nothing-but-a-Pretty-Bow kind of editions later on down the line. At least, I hope so. -
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 -- it has the ability to create/burn dvds from the program, so far as I've read. Look into it. This is an easy one. Split the file using WinRar (add to archive, cut it however you want - like 350,000,000 or something) then burn both files to disk. Copy both files to the same directory in your other computer, Extract, and it'll come out as one movie. I do a lot of file sharing, particuraly using sendspace, which is an absolute bitch when it comes to upload limits.

Guess who's doing a nude/sex scene.
Yuna_Firerose replied to CBright7831's topic in Television & Film
See Mysterious Skin - it also deals with child rape (of two boys, most of the sex is implied) so if it's choreographed like that film, well... I can kinda see how it could be done. Geezus christ, though... this is just fucked up in so many ways. Pedophilia is wrong and evil and blah blah blah... but here, let's show Fanning in her underwear for many scenes. That is very, very cringe-inducing. Yes, let's piggyback on the sick, twisted fantasies of pedophiles (fed constantly through the media anyway) just so a young star can get a shiny statue. I don't think that's the issue here at all. -
Not knowing much of Ledger's past roles, I'm not going to say he couldn't do it -- but it should be obvious that the media would reference Brokeback any chance they could. Not that it's a bad thing, mind, but it may not be the best promo material. I'll also get on the Crispin Glover bandwagon; I suspect there's plenty of room. Willard showed much of his dark side, and based on that, I suspect he would be perfect in a demented-stalker kinda way. Though I wonder, having not viewed the comics, isn't the Joker very theatrical? I'm mostly basing that assumption from the cartoon. Robin Williams would certainly add some age to the mostly-young cast and could be threatening in a way that Falcone and Ducard were. Doubt he could do many action scenes, then again, Crane didn't much of that, either. I'll throw this one out there: Roger Bart. Best known probably from Stepford Wives and The Producers; I think he had the look in The Producers, though definetly too over the top. I haven't seen any of his films where he plays a dark character (if he has, ever), but it would be interesting to see what he could do with the role. Regardless, I hope they bring back Crane for at least one more picture, if only so it's not a new-villain-per-film kinda thing as the old movies were.

I had a similar experience prior to X3. In the preview when the guy did that BUTT-scrunch thing, a few of the audience gasped, while the rest laughed like it was the funniest thing ever. I'll bet it was these same people who thought 'I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!' was the best line of the film.

That law is gone now so he might be seriously screwed. I think I might've missed something, but... what was the law-that-is-now-gone?

For the most part, Bloodrayne is like... Diet-Underworld-Lite. Sugar-Free, to boot. Same kind of short-haired, raspy vamp chick -- except where Selene looks as if she could kick your ass, Rayne [in the movie] was pathetic; really, she seemed barely able to hold the blades let alone fight with them. I actually laughed at the end with the dungeon scene. 'I wont' stop fighting' 'Me either' *cue swelling orchestrals* Apparently, that's Boll's version of 'big inspirational moment'. Kingsley was highly amusing, going for the minimalist approach, as in, wide-eyed and stiff as a board, speaking in complete monotone. Rayne's outfit was like something you'd find on the 75% -discount rack at Hot Topic. Could they not afford skin-tight leather? Good grief... Still, it wasn't too bad of a film. The sex scene was entertaining, as I expected the guy's legs to give out at any moment.

I highly recommend "Red Eye" -- can't recommend it enough, actually. It's short (76 minutes) but never seems like it -- things have a nice pace to them, the story happening realistically (well... save for the damned last fifteen minutes).

The Directors Cut DVD Discussion Thread
Yuna_Firerose replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
How much better does the unrated/uncut version of 'American Psycho' compare to the theatrical? Given my new recent interest in Christian Bale, I'm hoping to pick that up sometime soon. -
Beast wasted all of them on Magneto. There were dozens of cure guns with probably around 6 shots in each. ArcLight just broke the guns apart, and didn't obliterate the cure vials. They could have found more. Then Phoenix could've used whatever vials Wolverine was carrying on him -- and he would be fucked like nothing else. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't his mutant ability just the healing factor? Or at least it seems that way in movie-verse. Take that away and he'd be dead in no time flat.

In any case, I downloaded and installed. I enjoy the design and simplied menus/control buttons. However, the size seems a bit much -- heck, I only use it for movies; for audio, I stick to Slowview.

How come?

I can see what you mean. If only they had not centered so much on Wolvie, it might've been better. While he fights Deathstrike, Magneto gets to toy a bit more with Xavier's head and the rest, save for the requisite lover's quarrel, worry about the captured kiddies. When browsing the trivia section at imdb, I did come across an interesting snippet - apparently, there was a room created in Stryker's lab for Nightcrawler and Toad to fight in. Which would've been great if it had happened as we could Kurt being all badass once again and it would've been another fight to intercut with Wolvie vs Deathstrike, Scott vs Jean, Magneto vs ... um, Jason was it? Much more cgness, though... probably too expensive. In the context of the story, there's really not much for him to do until the end, save for seducing Pyro to the side of evil. If there's one illogicality I must question, it's the idea of a simple helmet being able to block the supposed most powerful telepath or, in fact, any form of mental manipulation. He's kinda like Rogue, in a way; any form of phsyical contact could be deadly, even so much as a simple handshake. The hugging scene scared my older sister -- or at least made her jump when it happened. Quite amusing, actually. Then again, she missed much of the beginning, so that's her fault.
-
.....Ew. Ewewewewewewew. If Kurt was going to be gay for anybody, it would be Wolverine. Or Toad. (there is, in fact, two very popular communities on LJ for both). Hey, you asked. A lot of folks seem to blame Brett by default, but I think the writers and producers could easily share in the blame (particuraly the latter, who seemed to say 'Hey! Let's see if we mesh two scripts into one giant blob!'). 'Tis interesting to compare X-3 to X-3; like apples and oranges. While I do find X-2's initial slow pacing (following Kurt's opening attack of course - I mean, holy shit, that one is still an eye opener) somewhat tedious, once it starts to get going, there's just nothing better. It has a great sense of urgency, yet never seems to rush anything; we learn of the new characters presented fully, or at least enough to understand them. Miles ahead of X-3. X-2 handled it's story and CG evenly, in my opinion, whereas this one seemed more intent on as minimal exposition as possible just to get to the next big bang. That man could make fuckin' Quill sound badass. By the by, is Quill from the comics at all? Just curious.
