You left yourself wide open on this one. I disapproved with many of the movie's plots and subplots as a fan of the movie series, not the comics. As for your question, I suppose there are many things we could want. Let's see... plot, direction, foresight, planning, effective script-writing, depth, and, ultimately, the humanity you come to expect with the X-Men franchise. But really, it's an X-Man movie, who goes in expecting fine cinema? Apparently, you do not. Visually, it was jaw-droppingly gorgeous; the one satisfying part of this whole affair. There were points, though, that the onslaught of special effects became so heavy that they lost their "special" aspect, and things that normally would have been wonderful, were just another explosion in the midst of many. The stinging loss of potential is what ultimaty hurts the most. There was possibility for so much more -- for Bobby, Rogue, and Kitty's love triangle, for Angel's relationship with his father, for Leech's thoughts on having been used (Was he willing? Unfortunately, we never know) to devastate members of his own species, for the tension between the ideals of Iceman and Pyro, between Beast and humanity. Insted, we are left with flashes and bangs, hints towards possible layers of interest and humanity, only to be turned away in favour of more flashes and bangs.

Congrats on a new term. I mostly speak from a mainstream fan, hardly knowing of the other comics. What it boils down to, basically, is that everything was too damn cluttered. Too many new characters introduced (most of which didn't have a purpose) and too little screen time afforded to each. Having the battle between the characters we know about instead of introducing, like, ten new others would've made for a better film. In my opinion, of course.

After watching about a half hour of the film again, I've realized mainly why the film didn't work: Phoenix. It's been done to death in every single X-men reincarnation, I think -- having it against a film about a Cure and people's acceptance was simply idiotic. The Phoenix storyline, to me, was nothing but fanservice. It was rushed and did not belong. Keep Jean a memory, where she would have more power (particuraly over Scott and to an extent, Logan). Instead of introducing so many new characters - Callisto/Morlocks, Multiple Man, Juggernaut, Kitty, Angel, Beast - I'd keep only a few of those (Beast and Angel). Beast was used well, and Angel could've easily carried more time. The Cure would still be Magneto's trigger (I enjoyed his speech of extermination) to start gathering forces, but really, he wouldn't need that many. Without Jean, without so many characters, we could focus the climactic battle on where it should've been focused: Brotherhood vs X-Men. Final showdown. I refuse to believe Toad died in X1, or for that matter, Sabertooth. Nightcrawler vs Toad would be an incredible match-up, given how both are extremely agile and acrobatic. Sabertooth vs Wolverine... 'nuff said. I can actually imagine it -- after Magneto does the whole bridge-thingy, the X-Jet lands, blocking entrance to the lab. Epic battles ensue, the stakes even higher as there are still humans on the one side of the bridge. Take out Jean, and that leaves more time for characters, the Cure's impact on the mutant community (only hinted at, but never really shown), and the final battle between the Brotherhood and X-Men.

Well, actually, I don't want to make a shounen-ai thingy (tell me, how does your friend know these terms? Hmm, something suspicious there...) just a vid of two guys who are impulsive, and hot (as in, lots of fire). You know, in writing my defense, I realized there was no way to deny your friends' claim, given that both are clearly flamers. The song itself is fairly heavy on the beats, while the lyrics are wannabe-rebellious. Would give me a chance to play around with quick-cutting and effects. Though now I have a random, somewhat related thought. If Pyro can manipulate fire, what of the fire that Johnny could create? Could he be able to manipulate that as well?

It wasn't makeup, though. It was some computer de-ageing thingy. Like, they used photographs of both Stewart and McKellen from 20 years ago and did that...somehow. I read an interview w/McKellen about it. Completely irrelevant, but... I'd hate to think how he would be during sex, should he ever lose control. Quill, I mean. Yes, you probably shouldn't, but since you did, I'll answer. It means... One True Pairing. I'm guessing it was there mostly to show off pretty CG effects and how powerful she was. Yet I thought the x-gene, y'know, came to be only during puberty? And the whole idea of either group being able to so easily destroy the home without anyone else in the neighborhood calling the cops or something is just stupid.

Same here. And Kitty calling him 'dickhead'. Wow, that's funny! Now, I know people curse in real life but, to me, the more vulguar terms just seemed... out-of-place in the film. For those interested, I've posted my full review of the film here. Overall, I was disappointed, and I'm not a comic book reader (save for Ultimate).

I do not expect every review of a film to be positive -- however, is it really a crime to expect them to be written well? From here:
-
I meant in terms of the film. The trailers that I saw (thinking about it, what I saw was probably the TV Spots) of FF only focused on the powers, and edited quickly.
-
I for one enjoyed it -- rented it (or, rather, downloaded) with the expectation that it was a rip-off of X-Men, and it would suck. Well, it was enjoyable as a popcorn movie... at least. Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis were the best points of that movie. Now, after reading all of this of X3, I just have to ask: Did Nightcrawler appear at all? I had heard mention that he would be entirely CG'ed for a scene. (Ew... ) It's amusing that many of the reviews I've read ask where the blue elf is.

Well...I *think* it's Spike, anyway... Doesn't matter if he got the knives from his skin or from his coat, though. He dies either way -
Anyone See the X3 7 Minute Preview...

There's an almost desperate amount of clips available online now. I mean, IESB.net has 18 clips available, and The Movie Box lists a lot more. Quite insane. Personally, I think of X3 as the fanboy's wishlist. They've wanted Angel in the first two films...now they have him. I've heard that some were complaining that Storm never flies (hence Magneto's line in X2) ... now she does this twirly-tornado thingy (and flies in the end finale). Not to mention the inevitable Pyro-Iceman battle. The Morlocks seem involved as well (spoiler: Spike dies... which is good; I hated the guy in X:Evo). -

I find it amusing they're struggling to find good things to say about Elliot. They never directly comment on his voice... -

So... any idea who's performing what tonight? -
From Ain't It Cool News, and even they aren't sure who the review comes from, or if it can be trusted. Nevertheless, here it is:
-
I don't frequent AICN myself, but I get updates in my email from Can Magazine about X3. That's how I found out about the article. Personally, I take these internet fandangled rumors with a grain of salt. They're an interesting read, but until I see them proven, they're just that... a read. Awww... I got a <3! Hehe.

Also, if you don't want to go through megaupload, then go here, to Movie Box. Scroll down to the DELL entry, and watch the preview and while it's playing, right click in the movie part, go to Properties, copy the address, and paste it in your address bar. It should then load up the movie in your Windows Media Player, at which point just File -> Save As. It is around 62mb. -

I'd rather download than go through YouTube or any other streaming video site. Streaming video is always hell for me; lagging like crazy. Also, for those interested, there are some new clips here: http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media/040/040731/vids_1.html In any case, the preview was very, very well done; certainly got me wanting to see the film. Most noteworthy were Magneto -- Sir Ian McKellen's connection to the character (he loathes the idea of a cure just like the character, equating, like Bryan Singer, being a mutant to being a homosexual) -- and Beast & Logan's interactions. Beast: I've been fighting for mutant rights since before you had claws, boy. Wolverine: Okay. Did... he just call me a "boy"?? The pictures for Beast always look incredibly silly, but it's not until you see him walking and talking intelligently that it all comes together. Storm was surprising; she stood up for her beliefs in a believable manner, though some could argue she was over-dramatic. Then again, given the situation...who wouldn't be? I like Rogue being interested in the cure, as that fits her character. They once did that in Ultimate X-Men but chickened out, with she giving the excuse of 'atoning for her sins' or some shit. I especially enjoyed Pyro being the right-hand man of Magneto. His attitude and total badassness (not to mention a new spiderman-esque way of creating fire) shows he's been taught quite well by Magneto. By the way, perhaps this is something known more to the comics group but, what is "Class 3"? I'm guessing it accounts for how dangerous a mutant is, and if so, what are the rest of the classes? -

Poor guy's gonna give himself larengitis trying to sing over these OVERLY LOUD instrumentals. Which will be fine, since he's hopefully going home next. -

Great performance by Chris ... if anything, I hate how the instrumentals drowned him out for a little bit. -

Interesting song choices tonight. My mother commented this morning - or was it last night? - that, out of all of them, Taylor has remained the most consistent. He hasn't gone, now these are her words, "all weird". I asked if any the others had, and she said a few of them. Instantly came to mind was Kellie gyrating around the stage like a slutty rocker. Taylor's "Jail House Rock" should be fun indeed. She thinks the final two will be Chris and Taylor. -
http://www.thetoyroom-redux.com/video/X-Men3Spoiler.mov Right-Click-Save-As. Hugh Jackman... my goodness, where's the gruff-but-handsome stranger who moved me to tears on many occasion in X1 and X2? (I refuse to think of them as 'previous films') Where, in fact, is any talent at all? Wolverine's lines were flat and emotionless; I felt nothing at all. He wasn't just "calm under pressure"; he was downright lethargic that a freakin' Sentinel was very, very near. Same for Storm; "dammit, Logan, don't do this" sounds like she's yelling at him for getting an extra scoop of ice-cream or something (bad metaphor ) instead of, ya know, risking his life. Colussus and everyone else could've been replaced with CGI dummies and we wouldn't know (hell, Colussus was a CGI dummy...) Everything was so..flat, slow-paced, and just blah. However, knowing Brett's style of directing () and how many takes he does, that could be at fault. Thoughts?

QT? Hmm... As it is a .avi, it usually plays for me in Windows Media Player; they have a version of it for Macs, if you're using that. I'm on Windows meself and using WMP v.10. Awww... -hug- ^-^
