Paula Abdul Assaulted at a Party
Yuna_Firerose replied to Yuna_Firerose's topic in Television & Film
What I hate about AI the most is how exploitive it is. The best parts of the show are the wheedling away to get to the winner, pointing out the bad seeds - thus why the auditions are so damn long. It's a bloody freak show. Like 'Ha, ha, look at that geek!' The one young boy who was REALLY, REALLY feminine - a blonde white kid, I forget the name - probably has some odd gentic thing going on, yet he's displayed for all the millions of viewers to be laughed at. Yeah, the show has some good spots, but that's it. Every song is forgettable, every performer forgotten. American Idol is a perfect example of our culture's voyeuristic tendencies towards lesser beings, freaks, and it shows how we get our kicks off of others' misfortunes...except in the privacy of our homes. Discuss. The only GOOD show on Fox is 'House, M.D.' but even that has had to deal with some sensationalist crap (how many episodes of season two deal with sex, troubled couples, sex, and oh yeah a 30 year old kissing a 9 year old? Granted, that last was a rather touching moment, but still... it reeks of Foxdom.) -
AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD
Yuna_Firerose replied to Jericholic82's topic in Television & Film
Simon was the only one who said anything and basically said that noone is ever safe from elimination. in other words "This season isn't turning out as good as I thought it would!" Don't think he really cares, actually. He's signed up for another five seasons, according to Giant magazine. I think he's a billionare, or something -- the interview with him was a fun read. He's got quite the ego, only caring for what sells. -
AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

And I'm as cynical-atheist as one can be; no doubt I would be wanting her gone if I heard/read any such interviews. In spite of that fault of hers, I hope she finds a good career. Though, really, once that horrid 'Man-Diva' moniker fades from America's collective memory, she'll fare better. Seriously, 'Man-Diva' sounds like some porno flick. Or horror. Or both. ...Ick. True. She tried to put some dance into the song, but her shakin' the bodonkadonk ain't want her fans really watch for (well, least I don't -think- they do...) Her strength was vocals, not sex appeal. Sad to say, really, but that's the truth of it. The song had a good beat, and lyrics suited for her powerful way of singing, but the content of it... bleh. She would've been better off going with something more emotional. -
AMERICAN IDOl-SEASON 5: THE THREAD

That is so abhorrent of a comment. While I agree Mandesa probably did not have a chance of winning, it is still a shame. She has talent, and didn't seem egotistical (Chicken Little...fuck, can't even remember the brat's name), nor did she play a role (Kellie) or act cliche (Fantasia, anyone?) However, I have not viewed any of her interviews, so I do not know how she acted behind the scenes. I tend to like an artist for what they do, not really who they are. Watching her performance now (downloaded for my mom, who missed it last night - her faves tend to be Taylor and Kellie), I think her only faults were not being in sync with a few words towards the end, and that shirt -really- didn't do her any favors. Or maybe America only wanted her to sing churchy, safe songs and not anything sexual. Her strengths lie in powerful notes - she would be excellent for plays, if noone offers her a contract. Also, what's with her hair? Ew. I loathe AI's way of making over everybody. ><; Moving on... is it just me, or is AI a hypocrite? Last week - or... one of the weeks - Simon complained about... Ace, I believe, always choosing rock songs, 'this is American Idol', blah blah blah... and then they choose a Queen theme which is, last I read, rock. Right, then. -
What film plots are you sick and tired of?
Yuna_Firerose replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
"Beauty Shop", "Bringin' Down the House" -- total ick. Which leads to some other stupid plots: - The white character who tries to be 'black' and is either a)really good at it to where they forget their own race or b)incite blank stares which is supposed to equal Teh Funny. - A male character who gets the aforementioned blank stares after saying anything because it is too feminine/gay-ish. Cue uncomfortable silence. Not only is this NOT FUNNY, but it's pointless as well. What a great way to portray our society. This occurs in many kid's shows as well, and it's a behavior I've seen my lil sister imitate. Absolutely disgusting. -
What film plots are you sick and tired of?
Yuna_Firerose replied to Downhome's topic in Television & Film
Any film in which a love story is forced onto the audience when the plot doesn't AT ALL have neither the room nor the need for such. From Hell is one I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of others soon after writing. Anything involving Disney's current breed of film. Girl is so damn beautiful but, lyke, OMG, she's soooo unpopular waaaaaah!!! - Girl makes friends with geeks - Girl becomes popular, acts shallow and stupid for 90% of the film and then for the final 10% decides she wants to, ya know, quit being popular -- like it's a vacation she can return from Ex. Mean Girls Romantic comedies. They're all basically the same paint-by-numbers bullshit. Recent example: Close to Heaven. The only good part about that movie was Jon Heder who was just there, didn't advance the plot much, but he completely owned the movie. The only way the movie is at all tolerable is if one goes with the theory that he invented it to pass the time at his boring ol' bookstore. By the way, randomness: haven't viewed Napoleon Dynamite yet, but I was thinking about it. Any good? Even more: The adventure/comic book/superhero type of film in which the main baddie is built up to be this huge tough guy, the total badass, all-powerful....and the good guy bring him down in less then ten minutes. Naturally the baddie isn't dead because this is the era of sequels and, should the movie make even a buck at the BO, the baddie will seek revenge! ZOMG! A girl is dumpy/not of the norm/rebel/independent and by the end of the film she's made up to fit society's norms for beautiful/in-crowd/popular utilizing a ton of makeup and her life is much happier for it. Interracial dating/marriage. Usually a black fem and a white guy. The girl's pals are all mortified/shocked/offended and proceed to attempt to break them up but, ya know, true love wins. Really, people, the shock of inter-racial fucking is, like, soooo seventies. Give 'em twenty years and the 'black' kids will be just as white as the rest of us. Ghetto whores = equalization of races. Horror movies that depict the vampire as grotesque monstrosities that are little more than snarling, wild dogs. On the flipside, movies like Queen of the Damned... just, no. They shouldn't exist. Man, I have a lot. I'm quite the cynic. -
It's income tax time, and I've recently been given my allowance ($50). Not sure what all I'll buy with it, though I have a few ideas. Having finished with Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption and unable to play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines due to incompatible video cards, I was hoping I might find something of a similar vein [pun intended]. Something that's dark/gothic, which focuses on dialogue/character/stories, though has your standard use of weapons and fighting. Final Fantasy XI had crossed my mind, but I'm not looking to pay for any subscription costs. If not an RPG, then perhaps something of an adventure? My local Wal-Mart has Syberia one and two for $10 (seperate, that is) and it seems interesting. My graphics card is able to play VtM:R without a problem, yet it crashes every time for for VtM:Bloodlines after the intros [i've tried everything to get it to work, even bypassing the damned movies...still, nothing]. So, naturally, I'm also looking for a few games that will play without a problem. Sys Specs are as follows: Dell Latitude 110L Processor - Celeron M 350 1.30GHz RAM - 512mb DDR 2-400 2 Graphics - Integrated Intel 910GML (w/Direct X 9.0)

And of COURSE Randy practically gives her oral sex for acting like a ghetto whore. Yeah. TAKE THAT MENTAL IMAGE TO YOUR GRAVE. Yay! Go, Simon!!! And here they go with their stupid names... -

What the fuck is up with Randy tonight? Geez...he's pissed off with everyone. Okay, now Simon is contradicting himself. First he dissed the "pop school" kinda thing and now he's hating on the rock choice when that's practically all Chris has ever chosen. It just doesn't make sense. "This is American Idol" ...yeah? What, no Americans like Creed. Wait, aren't Creed American? Geez... -
