American Idol

Just now getting around to watching episode 2. The one Asian woman with a cold wasn't too bad; I actually thought the judges were a little too harsh. Sure she wasn't good enough for AI, but I don't think she was tone deaf. Eighteen minutes in, and there's a lot of scary people. Like the novella gal with too bright of lipstick... ew. She looks so bored and deadpan, it's scary. The mom reminds of me MAD TV, actually; Stuart's mom. Freaky. The bro and sis duo were cute in that Disney-tween kind of way. I can actually see them on one of those types of movies. The bro was definetly cute in that shy, shining-star way. As for the tall woman... she was okay, but I think they put her through just for the amusement factor. She definetly won't be winning.

Installing World of Warcraft

Play Dark Age of Camelot. Much better graphics, even on my lowbie laptop. I can't understand the love for WoW. The screenshots look way too cartoony and immature.

Eddie Murphy

Been a while since I've seen the film -- I honestly don't remember that.

Blades of Glory

Who is Will Arnett? They rave about him over on the imdb boards (which I tend to glance through when I'm bored). The trailer is badass. I'm extremely amused at the song choices (I've now downloaded "Pour Some Sugar On Me" because of it). It's all about Heder and Ferrell's rivalry, yet the songs are all about sex. I, of course, think the movie looks extremely awesome. I'm not a fan of Heder - I've seen him briefly in Napoleon and Benchwarmers; didn't like either film - but he looks great here (aesthetically and acting wise). Ferrell looks completely awesome. I love how his outfit is all about flames, while Heder's is very icy blue. Neither look very masculine, but Ferrell completely owns it. I'm looking forward to its release.

American Idol

Yeah, what a great message to send to viewers. She sang normally, and bombed. Then she sang Shakira and shook her ass; of course she got through. Randy's eyes weren't on her voice. It sucked that the one rocker, who went around and learned the ABBA song, didn't get in. Sure he might not have had range, but neither did the rocker last year. He showed dedication and diligence towards the career. More than others. The way they deal with contestants is also annoying. Spend an hour and 58 minutes on all the bad and horrid singers (did we really need to see that horrid girl and her "impersonation" of the Cowardly Lion THREE TIMES??) but only do 30 seconds on those that actually got through. It's just stupid. They're only encouraging the people who watch for the bad singers.

Borat's last hurrah...

Unlike 'Austin Powers', Borat has a reason to be overexposed. It's a revolutionary documentary; nothing like that has been done before. Unfortunately, I think there was the underlying motive to make something like that impossible again. Makes sense to kill the character now. Leave the movie a legend instead of ruining it. Should be interesting how he does Bruno, given how much he's devoted to staying in character.

Eddie Murphy

The main problem with 'Vampire in Brooklyn' seemed to be genre confusion. It was just all over the place. Comedy, horror, romance; it could never decide what it wanted to be. I fondly remember the film from childhood, and still own it on VHS. I haven't watched it in a while. Best not to break the nostalgia.
8. I have a laptop that has a Wireless card built in. I'm able to connect to surrounding networks, leech off them, etc. My boyfriend told me today that, if he can, he'll buy me a router for Xmas. All well and good, honestly, but I've no idea the basics of it. As in, would I have to pay for the service of whatever I connect to? What's the speed like on a router? Since I have the network card in the laptop, would that automatically detect the router, or is there some installation? Things like that. Any help would be appreciated.

POTC DMC

I watched the first hour, maybe a little over. Ultimately the whole affair was too dark, dull, pointless, and thoroughly uninteresting. There were a few spots I enjoyed - Pintel and Ragetti are damn cute; drunk Norrington!; whipped Will!; emo Bootstrap! - but mostly everything felt forced. It didn't even feel like PotC. Ultimately that's what bothered me to the point of turning it off. Davy Jones was just gross. The writers/producers seemed extremely keen on pushing the darker side of the characters as much as possible. As much as I loves me some darkness, it just seemed extremely out of place here. Do we really need to see a crow peck out a guy's eyes within the first, oh, fifteen minutes of the film? The body count for was equally disturbing. This is based on the sequal of a theme-park movie, for heaven's sake. Ultimately, I think I wasted my $3. They took out everything good about the first film and put in as much dirt, grime, bad teeth, and looney toons-type logic as they possibly could.

Golden Globe Nominees

Sacha Baron Cohen and Hugh Laurie in the same place (again)? I'm so there. Much, much love for Borat getting the love he really deserves. Sure just a nom, but that's worth something. Oh, and what's with DiCaprio being nominated twice in the same category? How can he compete with... himself?

Wireless Router. May get one for X-Mas...

Alrighty - so we do need internet, well paid 'net, on another computer? The desktop we have uses Road Runer cable through a modem; it's not wireless. So... with the router, I'd be able to detect that? Thanks again for your help Yeah, I'll definetly use encryption, as soon as I figure it out.

Full Screen, Widescreen or Widescreen?

I don't even notice the black bars anymore, so any version of widescreen is fine with me. I went with 2:35:1.

VHS, age 30, dies of loneliness

The home-entertainment format lived a fruitful life By DIANE GARRETT After a long illness, the groundbreaking home-entertainment format VHS has died of natural causes in the United States. The format was 30 years old. No services are planned. The format had been expected to survive until January, but high-def formats and next-generation vidgame consoles hastened its final decline. "It's pretty much over," concurred Buena Vista Home Entertainment general manager North America Lori MacPherson on Tuesday. VHS is survived by a child, DVD, and by Tivo, VOD and DirecTV. It was preceded in death by Betamax, Divx, mini-discs and laserdiscs. Although it had been ailing, the format's death became official in this, the video biz's all-important fourth quarter. Retailers decided to pull the plug, saying there was no longer shelf space. As a tribute to the late, great VHS, Toys 'R' Us will continue to carry a few titles like "Barney," and some dollar video chains will still handle cassettes for those who cannot deal with the death of the format. Born Vertical Helical Scan to parent JVC of Japan, the tape had a difficult childhood as it was forced to compete with Sony's Betamax format. After its youthful Betamax battles, the longer-playing VHS tapes eventually became the format of choice for millions of consumers. VHS enjoyed a lucrative career, transforming the way people watched movies and changing the economics of the film biz. VHS hit its peak with "The Lion King," which sold more than 30 million vidcassettes Stateside. The format flourished until DVDs launched in 1997. After a fruitful career, VHS tapes started to retire from center stage in 2003 when DVDs became more popular for the first time. Since their retirement, VHS tapes have made occasional appearances in children's entertainment and as a format for collectors seeking titles not released on DVD. VHS continued to make as much as $300 million a year until this year, when studios stopped manufacturing the tapes. Date in print: Wed., Nov. 15, 2006, Los Angeles

Epic Movie.

http://www.myspace.com/epicmoviethemovie There are some movies tailor-made for download; this is one such example. This looks so hilariously bad that only those who lack a decent internet connection would pay money to see it. I'll see it at least once.

Borat

I agree the news woman needed punished, but there's 'punish' and then there's 'thousand dollars in debt'. She may be exaggerating in that one article, but still. Another story reports that Dharma Arthur, the woman responsible for booking Borat on the show, says she lost her livelihood because of the incident. "I spiraled into depression, and before I could recover, I was released from my contract early. It took me three months to find another job, and now I'm thousands of dollars in debt and struggling to keep my house out of foreclosure. The upsetting thing is that a man who leaves so much harm in his path is lauded as a comic genius." Given how much success the film is making, it shouldn't be too long before she sues. She would have a rightful case, actually. I am amused that most of the people Sascha 'pranked', for the most part, shrug it off.

Borat

Watching as far as I have, I can see where a lot of people would want to sue him, especially with how much money the movie's making. I liked the prostitute, though; she was rather sweet. Hilarious to see their etiquette try to end the dinner party like NOW. I do wonder how many people were in on the joke after the cameras stopped rolling.

Borat

Downloaded a fairly good copy of it, and so far (paused at 36:12) I'm enjoying it. It's your typical cam quality - a lil dark - but the audio more than makes up for it. Spanish subtitles, but easily ignored. I'm very interested in seeing these college buddies now, since it seems the focus of the thread. I'm especially looking forward to the DVD release, because you just KNOW they'll be tons of deleted scenes of footage they didn't (or couldn't) use in theatrical.

Stranger Than Fiction

Yeah, back on topic. So far, it has an 80% rating on the Tomatometer.

Neil Patrick Harris Is Gay

Amusing how stars these days will use the gay card to gain attention when their own careers fail them. Amusing... and sad.

Stranger Than Fiction

As a writer, and a fan of Will Ferrell in general, this film is doubly interesting. Not only is it not his typical-normal film, but the trailer looks incredibly interesting. From a writer's perspective, the idea of having one's muses/characters living and breathing elsewhere in the world, and that what we write effects them, I find to be fascinating. I hope to see it in theaters soon. For those that already have, if there any, how was it? Sans spoilers, if you please.

Final Fantasy XII

Wow, that's being released already? Time flies when one lacks a PS2. >.<;; I'll check out the reviews anyway.

Dexter

I finished watching the first episode. It has promise, but overall, it seems rather superficial. Dex himself seems a pale, more masculine imitation of Patrick Bateman and the supporting characters are all rather forgettable, not to mention cliched. The lusting lieutenant, needy and oblivious sister, suspicious coworker.. though I did find the last one rather interesting. He certainly doesn't have a problem with invading Dex's personal space. Dex's girlfriend is a character I hope to see more of, and I like her originality. I'll check out the other episodes.

Your Opinion- The Best DVD

The first thing that came to mind was Batman Returns (and, to a lesser degree, Batman Forever). I'm referring to the snazzy 2-disc editions. The audio and visual are perfect and flawless - really amazing given their age [Returns, especially]. There's great extras involved as well, which I won't go into detail here. You'll look it up if you wanna know. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, something-anniversary edition, which features interviews with all the kids aaaand they get a commentary track. Nifty. Fear and Loathing, two disc, would've been another good one, though of course already mentioned.
