Going for viewing #3 today. And yes, mostly for the Joker. i could watch the Ledger scenes over and over again - it's like he's RIPPED out of all of my favorite Joker comics. Just ridiculously awesome.

43 million in its third week of release. That's just ridiculous. The word of mouth out there for The Dark Knight is just crazy (good crazy). People who I never thought would see a Batman film, when I mention this, are all saying how eager they are to see it because everyone's telling them it's amazing. I of course joined in the chorus so I'm helping to fulfill the prophecy I guess. But the movie really is the best one I've seen all year. Eckhart is great, Batman is badass, and Ledger is phenomenal as Joker.

I wasn't looking forward to it, but man that trailer looked COOL. Since the first two X-Men movies were pretty much Wolverine + supporting mutants anyways, I'm just going to think of this as X3 and ignore that Ratner abortion. Especially with a young Stryker. I suppose they'll have to explain the lameness of Sabretooth in the first X-Men movie, but ehhh who cares. Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth is just awesome. With the fangs he had the PERFECT Sabretooth face. Loved seeing them two as army buddies.

Batman: The Long Halloween -
/facepalm seriously though, if he's only playing backup Center to Rasheed, it's not a horrible move, since that roster no longer has any "real Centers" (just a bunch of PFs), but surely coulda found someone better than Stonehands.

Weekend boxoffice report July 25-27

Dark Knight is very rewatchable. I saw it twice, liked it better the 2nd time, have been watching scenes on youtube, and would gladly go see it a 3rd time. -

Its unfortunate that X-Files bombed but not really unexpected. There was no buzz, the trailers were lame, the plot was non-existent in the promotion, it wasn't presented as an event, thus... nobody cares. Not to mention the behemoth that is Dark Knight, which absolutely deserves its success, what a fucking awesome movie. Seen it twice and am thinking of downloading (sorry i mean, digitally steal) it to watch again. -

Arnold's ice puns alone are more entertaining than Burton's Batman and Elfman's fruity carnival music. I also like Returns more than Batman 89 because of Pfeiffer and Walken but you're seriously trying to say that Shumacher's campy Batman and Robin is a worse adaptation than the carnival freakshow of a movie that Burton calls Batman Returns? What a strange statement, referring more to the disbelief in your question. You DO realize that in the internet population at large, Returns is far more highly thought of than Batman and Robin, and that Batman and Robin is considered by most to be by and far WAY worse than the other 3 (even if Forever is sometimes lumped in as one of the shitty ones - in fact that's how bad B&R is thought of, that people lump in BF JUST BECAUSE it had the same director), right?

There's no set in stone story for the next movie - they may have had an idea for Joker to be in the next one, but it wasn't even written yet. There's no reason to recast someone for what was essentially just an idea. Writers write, its their job, so they can just write him out.

An arms dealer is a good way to go with Penguin (i think Dark Knight kinda makes normal 'mob bosses' look like yesterday's news). Another diea I had was for Cobblepot to be sort of a Bruce Wayne type, a public multi-millionaire, played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Thus giving plenty of opportunities to have scenes with Bruce Wayne (and Lucius Fox) and Penguin. Also both movies focus heavily on "Gotham" almost as an entity in of itself, which is why I could see some sort of plot of someone digitally taking over Gotham, maybe someone abusing Wayne Enterprises' Big Brother technology somehow. Digital corruption is the sort of theme I could see Christopher Nolan handling - the Riddler could easily be like the villain from Die Hard 4, except, you know, with great acting and without sucking ass and being such a pussy.

I saw it again tonight and The Joker was even better the 2nd time around. Fantastic movie, and the 2nd viewing really brought up a ton of foreshadowing and interesting little details peppered throughout the movie. Every line delivery from Joker was utterly fantastic, I could watch each scene over and over again. Seriously this Joker is legendary, hannibal lector darth vader type legendary. I'd have to say the most chilling line delivery is when he's taunting that cop in the interrogation room about his friends, when he talks about seeing the real person right before they die, it made me think of heath ledger and his death and brought a really creepy subtext to the whole scene. and honestly if anyone here thinks Christopher Nolan is going to direct a version of "Hush" (the story arc), then you haven't been paying attention. I like how somebody said 'they'd have to change the plot a lot'... no they'd have to change the plot, period. Hush was a great fun read but it was a completely typical "comic plot". if he does do The Riddler, why would anyone be worried at all? Didn't you see Batman Begins and The Dark Knight? There is no possible way Nolan's Riddler would be anything at all like Carrey's over the top Riddler. I could see Nolan re-imagining the Riddler as a tech-based villian, sort of a brilliant hacker type or something like that, who leaves digital markers/riddles. I only think this because of the plot thread with Bruce making that Sonar Big Brother machine, it feels like the start of something, maybe involving the whole new 'digital world' somehow.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this again. This is gonna be one of those DVDs I pop in time and time again to re-watch the Joker scene, he was completely iconic.

It looks alright. Still looks a little too cartoony, and I don't like the practice of replicating exact comic panels like that because a lot of the shoots look oddly static and staged, without that "film camera" fluidity, but in general it looks pretty good. I'm not sure where this "It's unfilmable" stuff comes from - when everything in that trailer is pulled directly from the pages, its replicated almost exactly (dopey looking costumes aside). It might need an extra half hour or something to fit everything in, but the changes are more creative choices than anything else.

The Joker was fan-fuckin-tastic. A little disappointed in how little I'm gonna have to see this again, but the Joker was awesome. His mayhem, his twisted plans

Minor quibble in above review, i think the screenplay would be in "Best Adapted Screenplay" if it got nominated. OTOH you probalby can't point to ONE specific story as being adapted. like 'Begins' was sort of a cross between Denny O'Neal's "The Man Who Falls" (1st half of the movie) and Miller's "Year One" (second half).

Not a bad move for the Clippers. They're better with Camby than they were without him. It's been such a topsy turvy summer for the Clippers, so for them to get something out of the whole Brand-departure is something at least.

Vista's been fine on my laptop. I go from Vista at home to XP at work, and honestly, they've already blurred together, i might as well be using the same damn OS.

This system is such a nightmare, having gone through it a few times in the past year, while switching jobs. So much of job choice now revolves around health benefit issues. If there was ever an issue that could make me an expat in the next 3 to 5 years, it is this. -
Duhon's not a bad addition to the team. The bad part is of course the contract, but at two years, it's not horrible, because after one season he becomes a big expiring contract.

It's only $2 million or so per year if you divide it up. Yeah, 2 million a year, THAT's going to really help the Wizard and give them tons of flexibility. I mean its nice that he 'gave some back' but lets not pretend this is going to be some big boon to the Wiz and they can use it to fill out their roster with talent or anything.

Wizards and Golden State Warriors offering Arenas big deals, Wiz for 6 years and GSW offering the max for 5 years (the highest they can, while Was. is permitted to offer 6). I think Arenas should go to GSW, i can't imagine a better fit for him.
