^ interesting. in other news on the Isiah/NY front, I dont know if any of you watched Best Damn Sports Show period last night, but there was a segment with John Salley talking to former Bad Boys at Game 3, and he asked Isiah about the rumors of Rodman hanging around them in NY these days or soon, and Isiah gave his trademark smile and said that he'd do anything he can to help out guys and friends of his who he played with. He said some mroe stuff too I dont recall, but the implication was clear, Rodman could very well be a Knick soon (this coupled with Rodman's talk on Stern and others about him coming back to an NBA team in a big announceemnt).

^ well if you can tell me what else the LAKERS can do to win that they havne't tried, other than Jesus healing Malone's injury or Rush + Walton throwing up 40 points, then I'm all ears. I suppose giving Payton more offensive freedom, but other than that I can't think of a single thing.

Yeah, don't count LA out for Game 4, I'd go so far as to say it's a 50 chance that they'll win it. Coming into the finals, the masses have shown a remarkable amount of ignorance towards the Pistons' ability, but by that note, now that they're on top there's a bit of ignorance towards the Pistons main deficiency... inconsistency. They can play marvelous basketball for a few games then play terribly. It's happened in EVERY playoff series so far, but hasn't happened yet here... the pessimist pistons fan in me says its about due. Second up is that the Pistons tend to give up series leads, they get a little lazy when they are ahead. Again it's happened each series. Up 1-0 against MIL, they lose at home. Up 2-0 against NJ, lose the next three. Up 2-1 against Indiana, get blown out at the Palace. They play better when they're clawing back or rebounding from something, its been their one constant this whole postseason. They just like to make it harder on themselves. Mind you it's all about the Pistons now. If the Lakers win it will be because of the Pistons' old habits coming back, not so much what the Lakers do.

you know, I have to say... michael moore is kind of obese.

Here's a photo which completely sums up Game 3 of the Finals http://www.detnews.com/pix/2004/06/11/asec...eject-0604y.jpg All the Pistons shadowing Kobe.

as much as I love Detroit, LA shouldn't be counted out yet. they are just one win away from a tied series... now if Detriot takes the next game and goes up 3-1.... well....
-
"This has nothing to do with the Lakers, this was great Detroit Pistons defense" Damn fucking straight. I don't want to hear any bullshit about the Lakers just "deciding" not to win. Still I thik LA will take one of the next two. but not both. then Det will have to win in LA in game 6.

^ yup. and even when he IS on the floor, he needs more touches. I remember in the 3rd Q (i think), he made like three straight shots and kickstarted the Pistons comeback. But he didnt have many shots in the 4th and none in the OT (unless i'm mistaken) If there's one consistent weakness I've seen in Detroit its that they get a little lazy when they're on top (losing to MIL after going up 1-0, losing 2 to NJ after being up 2-0, losing BIG to indy at home when up 2-1). they are better when clawing their way up and are a lot better at comebacks than people give them credit for. they've had a number of good comesbacks throughout this post-season. With that in mind, the best chance Detroit has imo is not so much a "win 2-3 straight" route, but in a closely contested grinding battle.

Biggest problem for Detroit is purely mental. As far as the game, Detroit can hang with LA, and can win. But if they are thinking about the heartbreaker, that will sink Detroit. At this point Detroit's worst enemy is themselves. As a Pistons fan i was of course heartbroken over the loss. But today I feel a little differen't. I'm remembering the THREE times Jordan got ousted by the Pistons. I'm remembering the steal by Bird on Isiah that cost them the finals berth. I'm remembering the bullshit foul on Lambeer that cost them that one game near the end of 88 finals. I'm remembering game 7 of that finals where they lost by three measly points. Hell I'm remembering Detroit down 3-2 to NJ after losing a 3 OT heartbreaker, going back to NJ, the team that beat them last year. Times like these... this is where champions are born. If the Pistons cannot rebound in either a) this series, or blow the entire league away next season to win the title, then they aren't Champions (with a capital C). Yes I want the Pistons to win, but I want them to be Champions (with a capital C) more than just winning. Naturally in my biased opinion I think they are and have thought so since the season began...but this is a test of greatness. Pistons need to forget about Game 2, and refocus their intensity. Pick off the mistakes. There were defensive mistakes long before that last minute that they made, they need to fix those. Need to move the ball better. Need to NOT RUSH UP SHOTS (my biggest playoff complaint with Det since the NJ series, their propensity to run up and throw up bad shot choices). LB is RIGHT, if they can move the ball around, once they get past, say, the third good pass, their chances for a good shot DO go up. Need to NOT LET the Waltons and the Rushes and the FIshers open on the three point line.

Detroit really needs to make sure this isn't an emotion killer. They played well and came out of LA 1-1. They can keep up with LA. They just need to keep their composure, like they did after that 3OT-loss to NJ (and were on the brink of elimination). That's the biggest thing for DET, have confidence and not heartbreak.

What the fuck was that no-call-foul on Billups on his shot with 11 secs left. Even the announcer was like "no foul!?!?" of course ABC didnt bother replaying that play either.

It's all the internet fans' fault!!! ...somehow.

well I've known "jap" is considered a racial slur, and its not like i'm some super-smart dude, so I dont know where 'potentialy offensive' came from. i figured its common knowledge, just like 'spic' or 'nigger'. Sounds moreso like general stupdity/ignorance though rather than any kind of racism (after all, if someones just stupid or ignorant of the world around em they might legit think 'what!? it's just a shortenening of japan(ese)' and legitimatly mean it).

on a semi-related note... I caught the tail end of Dennis Rodman on Stern while driving to class yesterday morning. There were takling about how there was gonna be an announcement soon by a team for his return to the NBA, meaning a team has signed him (or is getting ready to sign him) for one year. Is this common knowledge? I haven't been following Rodman's latest antics.

I saw it. It was ok, pretty much the typical disaster movie. I'd say it was better than Godzilla and Armageddon, but that ain't saying much. Basically, good SFX, bad acting (by Quaid in particlar, Gyllenhall wasn't too bad, but his crush, whateverhernameis, was really bad too). It wasn't great, but i dont see where the uber-hate comes from. I'd put it directly in the middle right on the "exactly what you expect when you hear about an SFX-laden disaster movie by Roland Emmerich" line.

Damn this sounds hot. I cant wait! I can't tell you how happy I am that Marvel is getting both X-Men and Spider-Man right on the big screen (being my favorite comic book heroes ever those two)

regardless of who wins, i think we've officially got a SERIES on our hands, and I'm planning on enjoying it

*applauds* Good win, but Detroit can't rest on its laurels. LA is notorious for their comebacks. Still, it was a GOOD DEFENSIVE showing by Detroit. I never understood why people took the atrociously low scores in the Indiana series as some sort of gospel about Detroit's scoring. HELLO, Indy's a defense-oriented team. Detroit averaged high scores in the MIL series, decent scoring the NJ series (same as LA averaged vs Spurs), and they averaged 90.1 points in the regular season.
-
^ as long as both teams are around the same score, I'm fine with it. When one team's getting blown out, that's when it becomes unpleasant. (ok, when the pistons are getting blown out, that's when it becomes unpleasant for me )
-
I don't care what all the "blowout" experts think... I'm looking forward to this finals moreso than I have in years!!! BRING IT ON!
-
^ dunno about that, but I'd say there's definetly more interest in this finals than the previous two New Jersey finals (who gives a crap about the NEts anyways? ugh) Between the Lakers malone and payton the possible final year of the dynasty, kobe in the news, and detroit's hyped up (and well deserved) suffocating defense, two major market cities, I'd have to say this will be pretty successful, and NBA should be pleased, this is probably the best they could have hoped for. Especially if Detroit can sneak one of the first, say 3 games, and make it into a real series.
-
Commissioner Stern must be quite thriled with this. Ratings for the playoffs have been good. Indy/Detroit game 6 was ESPN's highest rated basketball game ever. LA/MINN game 6 was cable's highest ever.

Buy Bye Georgie boy. dont let the sliding-futuristic-door-inside-the-pentagon-made-from-alien-technology hit you in the ass on the way out. However, i gotta think Bush missed a truly plum PR opportunity by not savagely firing him early in the year in direct response to the WMDs. That's what I would have done in that position (for purely political reasons of course)

I liked Grant Morrison, as far as the 90s go. I know Mark Waid wrote a few issues around the AoA era which I liked also. Though we're only one issue in, something tells me Joss Whedon will be on this list within a few months
