that would be sort of surprising. Personally i thought Wade and Marion had the capability to be a pretty powerful duo next season.

the Spurs picking up Kurt Thomas is such a ridiculously perfect move. It's not a blockbuster, but it gives them exactly what they need for the playoffs - a good big man who can rebound and defend. He can play right alongside Duncan and the Spurs frontline can now at least match up pretty decently with ANY frontcourt in the league, from gasol/bynum, to Shaq/amare, wallace/mcdyess, KG/whoever.

I thought Shaq looked pretty good. They couldn't D up the Lakers for shit though. Shaq was a "presence" in there which can really benefit the suns.

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread

regarding the NOOO, gotta keep in mind, people's impressions of Darth Vader are based off of 20 years of the original trilogy. in those 20 years we never saw kid anakin, whiny anakin, anakin in love, or any of the prequel stuff. so somehow the noooo just feels corny, stupid, and un-Vader like. I'd agree it is probably just another "prequel moment" for someone who just saw all the SW movies at once.

One and Only Star Wars Geekiness Thread

I found Ripper's comment about 'why does Anakin get to be young and hippie while Obi-Wan and Yoda are old' about the end of ROTJ to be a funny comment... originally, Anakin ghost WAS old, then George Lucas, in his endless tinkering with the special editions (and then the special special editions), changed it (along with various other little things). I prefer the original version. Empire Strikes Back (Episode 5) is pure quality, and generally considered by most of fandom to be the best movie. It's definately one of my favorite movies ever, and the one which changes the series from "fun yet forgettable popcorn fluff" to "series that we suddenly give a damn about".

    LOST

I thought it was lame when he came back the first time, but that'd be a funny running joke, he just keeps coming back from the dead.

Find some way to email that to Dwight. I bet he'd try it with Jameer (or someone else small on his back).

Look at where his head is, it's behind the backboard WHILE he's dunking it. That's f'in impressive. He could have easily hurt himself there. when you add in the fact that he passed to himself off the back of the backboard, that's a truly great dunk. I actually thought the most impressive part of "Superman" was him taking off with both feet planted.

What was impressive about Dwight's first dunk was that his head was actually behind the backboard when he dunked it. he didn't pass under the backboard, his head was right up against the glass on the back side. very nice. Superman was kind of overrated, but it was a fun markout moment. the 3rd dunk was my favorite, he got it in mid-air and SPIKED it against the backboard and dunked it. that was ridiculously creative.

Dr J was right though, that barefoot dunk was probably the hardest dunk of the night... but it's not the sort of thing an "un-informed" viewer can pick out as difficult. there was more hype for the 1st two, but Dwight's 3rd dunk was the most impressive imo, throwing the ball up, jumping up, in-mid-air spiking the ball off the backboard, and dunking it... that's impressive.

That dunk where he SPIKED the ball off the backboard IN MID AIR and caught it and dunked it... WOW!

Magic needs to stop hyping up the contest. WE ARE ALREADY WATCHING THIS!

Did you see how HIGH he was? ordinarily i'da felt he had to be docked for not *quite* dunking it... but when you see how HIGH he was, he was literally throwing it DOWNWARDS. not to mention the actual CATCH (where was it thrown from?)... wow!

I heard something about George loses his bird rights if he gets traded. I'm not sure what that means exactly but okay i'll buy that. edit: here we go, found it: long story short, he doesn't want to lose his bird rights to be signed over the salary cap, plain and simple.

The Mavs really, uh, sacrificed their depth there didn't they? I mean none of those guys are great players or anything, but guys like Harris, Stack, and Diop are good at their roles. Cuban better have a backup plan to get at least one other player on that bench.

    Campaign 2008

What will kill Obama in the general election is an apaprent unwillingness to fight dirty. The "Obama was raised a muslim and is trying to hide it" thing is already widely believed, though proven false. I see references to it EVERY DAY on the internet. Campaigns are about creating a fog, an impression around a candidate, Just like 2004's campaign message was essentially "Kerry's kind of a pussy", hammered in so many different ways (I'll make a list if you want), hell it actually started WAY early during the primaries with the "he looks french" comment.... this one is going to be "Obama isn't a real american". -In the general election, you watch, there will be a few opportune public references to Obama being raised a muslim..... -lots of "reminders" that his middle name is Hussein -remember the attempt at controversy about how he didn't wear his American flag pin? -Him not putting his hand on his chest for the stars and stripes? -George W's rare comment the other day about how he is going to "embrace" Iran's president? -lots of people referencing the FOX News story as proof... why do you think they never retracted it? It's laying seeds for the general election -I bet money a prominent figure "accidentally" refers to him as Osama just once, at the right time to get plastered on Drudge. I'm not talking about misspeaking like ted kennedy, I'm talking about, "misspeaking" if you catch my drift. -Add to this the fact that by forcefully denying the claims (which you have to do or it'll stick) actually feeds the feelings that it's so bad if it were true. Mark my words, Obama's losing because of prejudice, just not the kind people are focused on now.

from what i heard, we're looking about 6 more episodes rather than the original 8 more.

that's definitely a case of them looking specifically for a big-man to try and keep some size on the team to face off against the west big guys. some guys like hedo and ray allen obviously coulda been given the spot, but looked at from a "big man" perspective, sheed makes sense only because there isn't much else, it's Sheed or Big Z. edit: actually n/m i heard that they mighta just went to the next leading forward vote getter who wasnt on the team already, which was sheed

    LOST

Thought this episode was great. The show feels sort of fresh, maybe because they're not stalling anymore now that they have an endpoint and an X number of episodes. Very good pacing, I like how we were introduced to all 4 of the "rescuers", got a glimpse of their past, AND got at least a whiff of their real motive, all in this episode... instead of being insufferably cryptic for 6 episodes like last year's "Livin' with the Others" nonsense.

Its classic overkill. They need a big man, a big presence, everybody knows this... so they get the biggest fattest slowest half-washed-up guy possible? I heard they were also in discussions for Okafur and Dalembert. I think both would work better in the Suns.

Shaq on the Suns. the Suns!? THE SUNS!? This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The big man can't even run, peroid.

    Superbowl XLII

what i find funny about Brady's initial reaction to Plax's prediction wasn't the quote, but his voice. He actually starts LAUGHING at us "scoring only 17 points?"
