*laughs at the jewish stuff* Good lord. I'm slightly doubtful because it almost seems too perfect, after all that anti-semitic stuff after the release of Passion of the Christ. edit: I see there's audiotape and the original report. Ok then, I believe it. This is going to be funny. I wonder what all the people who defended Mel from the anti-semetic charges will think now. I never quite had a strong opinion on that, but I thought maybe, when, during the Passion controversy, he did some interview and Diane Sawyer (or someone similar) threw a softball question about the Holocaust to him, soft enough that if he gave the obvious answer it'd do a world of good, but he said something like "you know, lots of people died during the holocaust, and yeah, some of them were jews" or something to that effect.

I'm about to enter transcendant musing mode: Israel isn't "losing", but there is no way for them to win IF the goal is the complete elimination of hezbollah. Israel is just the current example in a long string, I can't think of any major power in history has ever been able to truly put away a real guerrila force, going all the way back to napolean days. of course my history isn't the greatest, I'm thinking of vietnam, current iraq, the days of napolean, russians in afghanistan. I'm sure there are some exceptions in some little dinky South American or African country or something, but as far as military powers, nothing's coming to mind. hell that's the reason they are guerrila-style fighters and terrorists (or intermingle the two), its a tactic. They're too connected to their societies. The civilians are not part of the guerrilla/terrorist movement, but the movement is part of the civilian population. There really isn't a way for a traditional military to take out an organization like that without becoming evil monsters themselves and just razing the population. Its always been that way. It's MEANT to be a trap, because if you get aggressive in trying to take them out, you end up harming the civilian population, and that's what guerrilla warfare and terrorists WANT. Its not just to keep their skins safer, but it's also because they know that it just increases the hatred in the civilian population to you. this idea of populations blaming the guerillas soley is a myth thought of by naive people. So many societies end up making this same damn mistkae and get caught up in "wars" like these.. why do they never learn? because there's always someone saying: "But what's the alternative? Roll over and die? Surrender to these murderers and waive the white flag???" its hard for people to argue with that, i mean who wants to advocate surrenderring!? and in many current cases, they're not wrong! just stopping does tons of damage to, say, US or Israel, now too. Practically, the choices are fighting an unwinnable (in the regular sense) war and getting bogged down for years and years, becoming evil monsters yourself and playing the genocide game, or surrendering? Boy those are some choices. We basically need smarter people as our leaders to figure out a way to navigate. I think one solution is the "start, stop" method, but it requires real awareness. You fight juust enough to say, cut their effectiveness in half... slow down for a while and wait for an opening, then fight again, just enough to cut them down s'more.. hopefully getting em to the point where they might exist but they're just not that effective anymore. The other way, is trying to infiltrate them with spies, so don't have to play their game, instead you can be ready for all their guerrilla-style tactics. That's hard as fuck to do, especially with the differences in ethnic/cultural makeups between, say, americans and arabs/iraqis. Longer term, we (by we i'm more referring to the US here but applies to anyone) need to do everything we can to have the foresight to ignore all situations that involve soldiers existing, but not killing. Ie, occupations are just a bad idea, even if it's a good idea (relating to politics of the time. Too late for that here, but something to keep in mind if there's ever a war with Iran or Syria or N Korea or China or whatnot. in Israel's case, if they can cut Hezbollah's effectiveness by more than half, and keep them that way, in this current skirmish, it's a good foundation for a practical victory. Well, writing that effectivelly ate up the last hour of friday work just as I hoped it would. Yesssss -

They are top 4. It remains to be seen if they win the Central, but its them or Chicago. Billups, Rip, Prince, Rasheed, Nazr, Flip M, and McDyess is still a pretty excellent roster. I think it'll take at least a year for Chicago with Ben to really reach their potential, so I put pistons slightly ahead of the bulls for this season. Anyways, I think its moot. No way anybody beats Miami in the playoffs with the way Dwayne is reffed. he bumps into you, foul. you try to move out of the way of his wild spins, foul. you try to defend a jumpshot, foul. and so on.

considering how utterly lame and trash the last 4 ST properties (2 tv and 2 movie) have been, even if Abrams pulled a "superman" (which i doubt, as he has said interviews where he is going to respect the trek canon), it would by default be AT LEAST as "good" as the last 4 if not better.

in all the glut of lord of the rings games that came out around and after the movies, was there ever a true 3d free-roaming middle earth game? I was playing Shadow of the Colossus, and it has this huge empty world, with LOTR esque landscapes, rivers, bridges, ruins, forests, everything, it's pretty remarkable actually. I kept thinking, this game could have been the ultimate lotr game. -

the reason Kofee seems to think it was deliberate was because the UN observers called the IDF 10 times in 6 hours telling them that the bombing and shelling was right close to them. they even called new york and had them call israel's UN people to ask for that shelling to stop. each time they were told by IDF commanders that they would stop the bombing/shelling. this is all before the actual bombing. of course, hezbollah was using the base as a shield, its still fucked up to tell them that it'll stop though each time, why not say 'we're not stopping b/c hezbollah's there, so get out' six hours earlier? i'm getting all this from an AP article i picked up on jerusalempost (yes i read israeli papers, that and haaretz, are both good reading, haaretz is more leftist i think) but like i said, israel has been so strategically inept so far in this particular battle that it makes more sense that it was just a fuck up. they've developed this remarkable ability to hit everybody but their target. -

FF9 was so forgettable, despite the fact that I'd played it more recently than 7 or 8, I had major trouble remembering things about the plot and character. I still am not sure who the major villian was, all i remembered was Vivi the little black wizard, and zidane had a tail. It also cemented my complete apathy towards RPGs that try to go backwards and deliver "old-school", between 9 and dragon quest, it's one of those buzzwords that immediatly turns me off to a game. -
I want Juaquin Phoenix (dammit I can never spell his first name) as Spock. or Wes Bentley if they go younger. Matt Damon = Kirk Phoenix = Spock Gary Sinise = Bones (for a TOS-era movie)

i can buy it was an accident, since Israeli's war planners seem to be, at least in spirit, possessed by the Bush Administration Iraq folks, as far as pure ineptitude goes. It completely fits the pattern of miscalculations and stupid moves that they've set so far in this whole battle. That was some strategy, the beirut bombings (snort), boy its been REALLY effective so far hasn't it? -
i think i mentioned it before, but huge mistake submitting man of science, man of faith as their episode. As a Lost fan, I would not give it an emmy nod based on that show either.

PS, detailed info from the Spidey 3 panel at Comic-Con. Haven't read it yet, but some footage was shown so there're probably spoilesr. http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=23949 Sounds like they went the original Todd McFarlane route, rather than lame ass gooey tongue version. -

It's not. The DC guy said they were going to use animation styles closer to their comics counterpart. -

Well Bruce Timm is the director, and he is THE Superman/Batman TAS guy, so there's hope. -
as far as harvey dent goes, I'm more concerned with two-face, which means we need someone with a cool gravelly voice. You know what that means... JACK BAUER AS HARVEY DENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other guy who I think would be really cool as Two-Face (and thus Dent), is Joaquin Phoenix (sp?).

The Joker????

I dont know, I think after Brokeback sort of got him out there for an unconventional role, he'll throw himself into trying to make this dark and memorable typecast-shattering role. I trust Christopher Nolan quite a bit as far as casting.

I hope they go a sort of serial killer ish route. I could see it.

He's interested in directing one of the Potter movies. That would be perfect. He is a good director but it seems his screenwriting skills have gone to shit. Movie 6 would be great, since it's so dark. -

Senate votes to expand stem cell research

That would be great if the private sector was, you know, ABLE TO DO SO. I noticed that the vote count was pretty strong, rather than splitting down party lines? So this is gonna be the first veto. Joy. Thanks George, really, thanks.
