    Observer News & Notes

well that was one of the more interesting backstage news things I've read. However I didn't quite grasp the meaning of the 13 y/o Rock situation. Rock was trying to get HBk ot take a swing at him b/c of his behavior? huh? that makes no sense.

    This week in the NBA

meh, it was bound to happen soon or later. maybe now that there's no unbeaten pressure, they can develop their team in a more naturalistic fashion, ie getting the bench better developed, Dice back into the groove of things, tighten up the D. They played sloppy against Portland, Boston, and Houston, so hopefully this will be a good kick in the rear ends to tighten up their deficiencies (seemed like they kinda ignored them because they were getting Ws).

    Harry Potter Movies

The Weasley Twins kicked ass. I'll be interested to see if their big mark-out moment in Part 5 is depicted in its full glory

    Superman Returns Teaser Trailer

^ I think there was one before that. That teaser was just shots of Bruce travelling the snow, talking to Ducard, it ended with Bruce in the dungeon and Ducard saying "A Legend mr wayne", and the bat mask in the cupboard, followed a quick flash of batman.

    Harry Potter Movies

it was pretty good. The directing seemed amateurish compared to Azkaban though (especially early on, very choppy and weirdly editing). Luckily for Newell he had great material, its pretty hard to fuckup Dragon vs Broomstick Harry. I also thought the girl that plays Hermoine did a not-so-good job. She was over-acting and over-dramatizing everything. Its actually kinda a bummer since she was great in part 3. Honeslty I didnt miss most of the cut-outs. I do agree that some more explanation was needed on the wands thing and one or two other things, but the movie was still very lean. GOod job on the adaptaton aspect itself. Kill Bill style would have been incredibly overkill (then again I'm of the opinion that both Kill Bill and Matrix sequels were over-padded duo's of films that would have been better and leaner as 1 3-hour movie).

Apparently KG sounded off on Timberwolves management, including some choice words for Kevin McHale on the job he's done, before the wizards game: www.nba.com (TNT overdrive section)

    LOST

Found this on the internet forums, lost-forum.com... check this out, did "Walt" lead Shannon/Sayid to another hatch or something? There's very clearly something mechanical (pipe?) there: Animated GIF (once you're looking for it, it becomes very clear): http://www.bakkelun.net/filer/sayid.gif

Howard Stern makes fun of Eddie Guerrero.

I heard this and it sounded more like he was making fun of Eric the Midget than Eddie.

I miss the big invisible crashing 'monster' security system. it seems like the others have replaced invisi-monster as the big heel.

well, there's that then, pistons still undefeated. Kinda sucks for the blazers, they had a chance to win it but the fouls at the end killed them. Too eager to trap Billups.

    This week in the NBA

that game has been ugly for the Pistons for most of it, getting bloodied on the boards. Still, they've knuckled down and turned it on here late in the 4th. They looked winded though, they should be happy the road trip is over after this game and they get a few days off.

The OaO Arrested Development Season 3 thread

I started watching season 1 via netflix, and now I find its getting cancelled? well shit. This is the best and most original "sitcom" in years

    This week in the NBA

What a fuckin' game this (Detroit/Phoenix) is! I'd love to see a playoff series between these two. Great clutch play in the last 2 minutes by Detroit. I noticed they switched to the Zone and had Ben Wallace on Nash on the key, blocking a bunch of possible passes. Big Shot Chauncy!!!

Thomas Haden Church cast as villain for Spider-Man

To add to the confusion, Topher has also been rumored to play Electro. So that's Chameleon, Venom, Electro. It's like some running sweepstakes, who's he gonna play.

    LOST

I think (hope) its pretty clear that Ana Lucia was deliberatly written as an uber unlikeable bitch, so that they could brng her crashing down to Earth b/c of what she did. We hope.

Thomas Haden Church cast as villain for Spider-Man

frankly if they go that route (which has been rumored), a Venom who is thematically like a dark mirror of Spider-Man, I think that is an excellent dramatic choice that topher works well as, and actually truer to the original Venom than a blob of black goo and green drool and a giant tongue. original venom looked like spider-man in a black suit, with teeth. Spider-Man dealing with having to face someone just like him, rather than some gigantic wrestling reject, is the kind of psychological characterization that fits right in with the tone of Spidey 2, and is the first time I've thought of venom as do-able rather than stupid. Regarding the Ultimate origin, I dont recall exactly but I think it was a cancer-curing body suit developed by Peter and Eddie's parents (fellow scientists and friends or something). It was introduced in a pretty cool way actually, Pete finds an old home video of his and eddie's family at a picnic together, and he tracks down Eddie (who is in college) b/c of it, they become friends, and they find the leftover expirement, and somehow Eddie gets it and becomes Venom.

I also have to say that I really like Mr Echo's character, even though he's low key. Must just be the actor's charisma. ADEBIISSIIIII!!!!

Thomas Haden Church cast as villain for Spider-Man

The reason they cast a skinnier guy like Topher for Venom (if indeed Venom is the villian) is because they want to make him sort of a mirror of Spider-Man, a mirror of Toby McGuire/Peter Parker.

The only way to watch TV series

I definetly know what you're talking about. I've been using dvds to watch The Sopranos and arrested development, in the past i did it with season 1 of 24. I dont even burn thro em all in one day but i get enough to feel satisfied for a while (2 or 3 episodes will do it). My friend just watched Lost on dvd and I am envious. Its so good that I'm considering skipping a few of the shows i usually watch and switch to DVD later.

    Funny pair of stories...

The first one is this, Republicans making a big show of calling for an investigation the leak of secret international prisons story to the Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...0800764_pf.html Ok, so far so good... the Republicans are gonna go hardcore and find out who leaked it and prosecute them...? This is from CNN (transcript reposted across lotsa blogs n sites n such), as i understand it sometime later after the hastert/frist thing: Whoops! It will be interesting to see if Hastert and Frist pursue this with the same vigor they seemed to have when calling for the investigation. Did the GOP's public strategists take the last two days off or something? this is kerry-like in its political sloppiness
