    TUF 3: The Thread

Ed's not a total newb, though. He still has a lot of time to train, and plenty of equipment and resources with which to do it...he shouldn't be in bad condition and I don't think Shamrock can take the blame for that. He could be rusty from lack of sparring and that would be Shamrock's fault totally...but not for Ed's bad cardio vascular condition. This episode finally portrayed Shamrock in a somewhat sympathetic light, for the first time. I though Ed heckling Tito about his legs was hilarious, as was Tito's reaction. You can tell that he really doesn't like it when somebody taunts him...which is funny considering the way he acts. I agree with you about everything and everybody except Royce. His family really did bring MMA to America, and they really did invent the UFC for all intents and purposes, so in that case he's telling the truth. If you get a chance, I'd check out the book "No Holds Barred: Evolution" which really tells the story well, and it's much less biased than "Brawl" by Eric Krauss.

    Rags to Riches?

I disagree with this study. First off, the base was only 4,000 people which as any Sociologist would tell you is too small to make this kind of assumption. Secondly, the article admits that the survey did not include immigrants. The whole basis of the "land of opprotunity" claim is that somebody could come to America and live a better life than they did in their home country. This article claims that life in Europe could be better than in the USA. I don't think a lot of people flee Europe to come to the USA for a new life, not now anyhow. After WWII, sure. One of the reasons that America is looked upon as a land of opprotunity is because of the freedoms it offers, and tax cuts etc. don't have anything to do with that. It's still a fact, if you legally come to America, you will have freedom and chances that a lot of other countries will not provide. While I'm sure life in certain Europen countries is great, there are social factors which may offset the economic disadvantages this article attempts to point out. Somebody get Poppick in here, stat. The whole "poor people remain poor" argument is probably more of an issue of encouraging dependence on government programs rather then independence, and the fact that the poor don't have access to a high quality of education. Poor people need to be properly educated in order to improve their lot in life...and if they aren't then yes, they'll stay poor. I don't think that makes America any less the land of opprotunity.

Stephen Harper < George W. Bush

The one thing about a minority government you can all guarantee is this: 1) Nothing radical will get done. 2) The rhetoric between parties will get amped up as high as it can go, so each party can try and convince the voters that THEY are the ONLY party that knows what they're doing, so they MUST have a majority mandate. I honestly don't think Harpo is going to get away with doing anything major duing his term. He's not going to have the parlimentary support. However, all of the opposition parties will try and make things look like he's the antichrist, because the last thing they want is the public thinking is that he's doing a good job. Therefore, I expect much ado about nothing during this government, and the only legislation that will pass is centerist stuff that everybody can agree on.

Stephen Harper < George W. Bush

I agree. The media SHOULD be barred from military funerals. I wouldn't want them barging into my familiy's private grief. What the hell do the media need access to a funeral for? That's pathetic that would even want it, it's not needed at all. Nothing good can come from media coverage of a family's private moments. As far as the flag, when our country is involved in such a large operation as Afghanistan, the flags would be lowered to half mast at all times. So long as we show respect to the military, the flags won't be an issue. Harper is showing respect where it COUNTS, he has plans to address the military funding crisis, unlike the liberals. I am torn on the gas issue. I don't like government interference in private business, but I don't like getting gouged at the pumps either. If the government can clearly identify (with proof) that the oil companies are adjusting prices with no reason, then they should be the ones to pay for it, not the tax programs getting cut. That's just robbing Peter to pay Paul...because the shortage will have to be filled elsewhere. It's easy for people to sit around and claim oil companies are gouging us, and I suspect they are...but there must be documented proof before the goverment can act. So yeah...so far so good for Harper. It's WAY too soon to start being all melodramatic about him. We gave the liberals a 12 year pass to fuck up Canada...Harper is a leader of a minority government, and he just started to try and implement his agenda. He's going to have the Bloc, NDP, and Libs looking over his shoulder the whole time, and we all know he'll need some of their votes to do anything big. Taking that into account, I honestly feel people need to relax and tone down the rhetoric a bit. Comparing him to Bush at this point is just non-sensical.

    UTSU and Rrrsh

We are now at 6 pages in this thread, and still...nothing has been done. How can all of you sit here and make jokes, while the tyranny of evil men continues to go unchecked? The injustice! The terrible abuse of power! I don't know how you can all stand to live in the kind of world where people like UTSU and Rrrsh are banned from an internet messageboard. I don't think I can. Clearly, the pleas for justice in this thread have gone unanswered. Well we're not licked yet! Oh no we're not! Firstly, we should all start by writing our local members of parliment, or congress. If that fails, we take it to the senate. Has anybody contacted Cindy Sheehan? I am sure once she hears about this, she'll drop whatever she's on about, and rally to our sides. Then my brothers and sisters, we take it to the STREETS! YES! Power to the people! We MARCH! We paint signs! The 500,000 Mexicans was NOTHING compared to what our righteous anger shall unleash on the The Smart Marks, if this injustice is not rectified, and right away! We shall overcome! Today it's UTSU and Rrrsh, but tomorrow it could be somebody like Porter or FFMS! Think about THAT! None of us are safe! We must fight while we still can, and fight for those like poor Emmanuel, who can't fight for himself anymore, because of his mixer! If we all band together, and start more threads about the injustice of what happened to UTSU and Rrrsh, then maybe things CAN change! Maybe we CAN make a difference. ... Or maybe people should shut the fuck up and quit whining about two assheads being banned from a fucking messageboard about wrestling on the internet, especially since if they have the IQ of a fucking monkey, they've already gotten around the ban like everybody else does. You know, either or.

Dude...it worked. I'm sorry, but it did. Either you didn't see the show, or you're just arguing for the sake of defending your previous complaint claiming that the idea was dumb...when it clearly wasn't. The idea came across really well. Now we'll wait and see if the rating bears that out. If it does, then the whole "it was a dumb idea" really has no merit. I think you're allowed to say somebody was formerly known as whoever, a limited number of times, so long as you give their new name. You can't advertise the person as "formerly known as whoever" without giving a new name, meaning you can't use the old name to make money. I forgot to mention that I also thought Christian's promo was excellent. His more "serious" promos that he has given since winning the NWA World Championship, the sit down ones, have been surprisingly good in my opinion. Also, the fact that he isn't doing his normal joking around routine (which face it...with Abyss and Mitchell he's got plenty of material...one guy wears a mask and grunts all the time, the other dresses and acts like it's Halloween every day) helps put over this match and Abyss as a contender.

    ***Impact spoilers***

Line of tonight was: Jeff Jarrett: "Eric Young, tonight I'm giving you the opporotunity of a lifetime! Go out there and beat Sting!" Eric Young: "But...but...I...I don't want it." By the way, for those of you who can't seem to figure it out...the logic surrounding TNA starting IMPACT with the Joe vs. Daniels match already underway is incredibly simple. They didn't do it to fit more promos in. The match could have easily been edited if that is what they wanted to do...Smackdown does that all the time. They started this match in progress, exactly where they did for a very specific reason. Last week, TNA got it’s second highest rating ever, thanks to the UFC Ultimate Fighter lead in. Obviously, this means that some if not many of the people watching The Ultimate Fighter decided to keep watching when IMPACT came on. It’s logical to assume that some fans of The Ultimate Fighter are not Pro Wrestling or TNA fans. TNA set things up so that… - The minute The Ultimate Fighter ended, IMPACT started…no break between. No commerical, no chance to get up and walk away, or change the channel. If you watched The Ultimate Fighter, it went directly into IMPACT. - Christopher Daniels was bleeding the MINUTE the show started…which will make Ultimate Fighter fans say “Hey look…BLOOD!” - Joe was wrestling, and in control when the show started. Joe has a stiff, rough fighting style, which may appeal to some Ultimate Fighting fans. They were also very quick to mention and show clips of Sting, and Team 3D in the opening segment of the show. This will lead casual fans to say “Hey look…Sting.” And “Hey look…the Dudleys.” Was this a smart strategy by TNA? We’ll find out when the ratings come in. However, last week The Ultimate Fighter scored an all time high for a Spike Premiere…a 2.0 rating with NO WWE lead-in like last year…and TNA scored the 1.0…so let’s save the weekly “OMG TNA is teh stoopid” comments until we see if their plan actually worked. Trust me...it was planned that way for a reason.

    Rumored LockDown matches

I agree that Liger in a cage didn't make a whole lot of sense...but I guess I expected more out of him in a cage then I did from Danielson. I kind of look at Danielson as a pure wrestler who has no business in a cage unless it's a blow off for a feud...whereas the entire Liger appearance was a novelty, so the added novelty of the cage wasn't as big to me. Rumor has it that they're planning a Gauntlet...which I am not looking forward to.

Ratings from TNA's first head-to-head showdown with WWE

That argument doesn't make sense, dude. We're talking about the first time Bret Hart appeared on WWE television since the Montreal Screwjob. I watched the HOF instead of TNA that night...and I don't even watch WWE, and I'm a TNA fan! I am surprised ANY wrestling fans watched IMPACT. If it was just a bunch of people like Tony Atlas getting inducted, I could see your point...because watching actual matches is better than watching speeches...but come on. I think you are seriously underestimating the appeal that Bret Hart's appearance had. You can't use this rating to judge how TNA and WWE would do head to head. And guess what? If and when TNA and WWE go head to head, TNA is going to get slaughtered. Nobody with any sense could deny that. The point is to watch how TNA does over time against the WWE, if they ever compete. If TNA went head to head with WWE, and started to draw away fans...ANY fans...then that would show that there are SOME people out there who are looking for some kind of competition. Remember, when Bischoff decided to go head to head with RAW, people thought he was insane. The change came over time...it's not like Nitro debuted and everybody switched on the first week...and WCW probably offered a superior product back then to TNA now.

    Rumored LockDown matches

That's not too bad of an idea...but it's a cage match. I would rather see Danielson in a normal match, rather than a cage. I think they should bust ass and try and get somebody else good fron outside TNA...or use Strong or Aries.

Who wuld you bring back to TNA?

A1 Here's my feeling...and go ahead and call me nuts...but A1 works as part of a larger group. I remember the second incarnation of the Four Horsemen had an interesting dynamic. You had the leader in Flair, the "Enforcer" in Arn Anderson, the supporting character in Tully, and the big goon in Lex Luger. They used that model a couple of times. I like Team Canada as a stable. Williams is the leader and resident spot monkey, Roode is the enforcer, Young is the comedy relief, and A1 is the goon/muscle. As part of the larger unit, I don't mind A1. It's not like he gets a lot of air time. The Naturals I don't mind these guys, and I think one way TNA could really establish themselves as a alternative different from the WWE is by treating their Tag Team Division with some respect. In that vein, they should keep GOOD teams around...and The Naturals aren't the worse team I've ever seen. David Young & Elix Skipper I tend to agree here. Young has never impressed me, and Skipper seemed to have potential, but it never really came through. I don't think these two are really all that great, and it wouldn't bother me to see them cut. Matt Bentley CUT THIS WASTE...NOW. He is not good enough for the X Division, and he is pretty useless otherwise. make him go away. Jackie Gayda Her body is shaped kinda weird. She serves no purpose. I thought Haas was coming in, but since he isn't, she may go now. Konnan I think he has a lot of pull with the promotions in Mexico, and as a manager he is kind of usefull. even though his act on the mic is stale as hell. Keep him out of the ring, and use him as the manager for Homicide and Hernandez, and I don't mind him. Hoyt I think he's being used about as well as he should be. He's a lower card guy, who does nothing too special. I don't think he's hurting the product per se. Norman Smiley HEY! Don't diss the wiggle. I actually think him and Shark Boy are a laugh as the comedy relief Tag Team, so I say keep em. You need midcarders, and you have to admit he's funny. Jeff Jarrett Never happen. He's in management, so if you want to watch TNA you have to accpet that he's part of the package. I don't hate him as much as most people...and I'm glad he's out of the World Title picture for now. Scott Steiner Unless he's going to be used to put guys over, I agree that he's pretty useless. And his body also looks odd. Team 3D I have to admit, I actually like Team 3D. I would like to see them win the Tag Belts...and there are a ton of teams who could be brought in to work with them that they haven't worked with yet. The James Gang This whole Bob Armstrong thing is BEYOND stupid...but as a team I don't mind them. I think that fans who used to like the WWF back in the 90's who see The James Gang in TNA might stick around for a while to see them, and get hooked into the product...so they're usefull in that sense. Having said that, they have looked rusty and out of synch since they got back together. They need to sharpen their act. You make a valid point. I guess my beef is with people who are always bitching about TNA and saying they suck. I get annoyed by the too cool for school types who are quick to come into a thread and drop some stupid smarky comment about TNA sucking. TNA does not suck...but their TV show does sometimes. The problem is that they only have one hour, in a lousy time slot...and they try and pack way too much into that hour. I maintain that they put out a solid PPV product, but I agree that the TV show needs some work. Rumor has it that they are planning on changing the way they use IMPACT once they move to Thursday, by doing less matches. I think that is a good idea.

Who wuld you bring back to TNA?

d-lo brown Can't happen. He works a lot of tours in All Japan, and makes that his priority. TNA can't get behind a guy who won't be around for the TV tapings and PPV's. I said the same thing when people went bonkers about Doug Williams and Nigel McGuiness not being available for the World X Cup. A lot of North American fans don't understand the way many Japanese companies do business. If they want you for a tour, and they book you, then you have to be there for that set amount of time...unless your name is Brock Lesnar. I would imagine that D-Lo is making good money in AJPW, so he doesn't need TNA. TNA doesn't need him either, as somebody else said...their roster is already pretty packed. Bringing in a guy like D-Lo is going to take away from somebody else. Unless that somebody else is Matt Bentley, it's probably a bad idea. On top of all that, I saw a match with him in AJPW recently, and he is starting to get out of shape again. So no. This is why you will NOT see Low Ki in TNA full time, in my opinion. He has a very good spot carved out for himself in NOAH. I see the majority of NOAH's shows that are available, and trust me...Low Ki is doing okay for himself. He's hardly a Main Event level guy but Americans never are in NOAH. He is usually in some very good matches, he gets steady employment, and I'm assuming he does okay financially. He also does not "need" TNA and couldn't fit into their schedule. mike sanders You know why nobody uses this guy? You know why he never made it to the WWE after they bought WCW, and why TNA stopped using him? He's a jerk. A big one. He treats fans like shit, he treats guys who aren't his friends on the roster like shit, and he treats the office like shit. He has openly said that his role model in wrestling is Kevin Nash...and Mike Sanders is in no position to act like Kevin Nash. He's an average talent (pun intended) and although he's okay with a mic, he's not good enough to justify all the shit he'd cause backstage. amazing red Pre-knee injury I'd say sure. Post injury, I'd say no. I'm afraid he either didn't heal from that knee injury properly...or he'll just never get his form back. Either way, aside from getting killed by Joe, I've not seen anything out of him that you can't get from any other spotmonkey. perry saturn If he was active, I'd say maybe...but I'm pretty sure he isn't. I heard he got shot. Seriously. He's not dead, but I heard he was out of wrestling now. mike awesome Meh. He's injury prone. He looked pretty good at ONS last year (although he injured himself after the match when he powerbombed the ref.) I also saw him in NOAH. I wouldn't get rid of anybody on the current roster right now to make room for him. Except Bentley. the sandman The old ECW mark in me says hell yeah. The person who wants to see TNA do well says not full time. I'd bring him in to work a shot against Joe, or somebody...but not fulltime. You cann't argue that he isn't over, because he sure is...but his act gets real old, real fast. brian lee He is battling "personal demons." Back in the weekly PPV days, he once came down to the ring so fucked up on something that he literally fell down. That's why he was replaced with Sinn. Having said that, I loved the New Church Tag Team...if Lee could get his shit together, then hell yeah bring him and Slash back. They were a great team...something TNA needs more of. justin credible He can't call himself that anymore. If I was him, I would go back to calling myself PJ Walker. If they could get PJ Walker and Storm as The Impact Players, then yeah...why not. As a singles guy? Hell no. slash(wolfie d) See my comments for Brian Lee. Except that Slash didn't seem to have any "personal demons" he was battling. jason cross Meh. Spot monkey, and TNA has plenty of them. Pass. Same goes with jimmy rave and delirious in my book, but to be fair, I have seen very little of them, so I could be wrong. teddy hart See my comments on Mike Sanders. Teddy Hart has a million dollar talent and a ten cent brain. He'd already be established in TNA, ROH, or the WWE if he wasn't such a grade A jackass. This is the only guy who can have the Hart name and everybody still hates him. If they don't want Sanders they won't want him. frankie kazarian Too bland. They could do worse (like Matt Bentley) but he is of no real use, to be honest. I can see the logic in saying don't bring in anymore people...but honestly if you watch every PPV that they have done since getting on Spike, the product is really not bad. At times it's above average, at times it can dip below, but overall it's hardly shitty. There is no argument that IMPACT is weak, but it's a one hour show on at a bad time that they try and cram all sorts of stuff into. I watch Xplosion every week to keep up to date on what's going on, and I chip in with some friends on the PPV's. TNA is not all that bad...sometimes people just expect it to be competition for the WWE right now, and it's nowhere near ready to be that right now.

    TUF 3: The Thread

Hey guys...Dave Dymond here. I used to write the MMA column for TSM a while back, I don't know if you remember me or not. Anyhow, I am a Ken Shamrock fan, (and someday soon I plan to write an article explaining why...so don't flame me yet please) but I was disappointed by his attitude during this episode. His continued refusal to appreciate and accept Jiu Jitsu as a fighting style is kind of sad. I know he comes from the Sammy Saranaka school of Shootwrestling...and unlike a lot of MMA fans I still think that this is a viable fighting style...but surely as a coach he needs to accept that most young guys know Jiu Jitsu and need to train in it, in order to be successful. Simply saying "I do leg locks" is not going to help your team. I know he doesn't like Jiu Jitsu, I know he doesn't USE Jiu Jitsu, but it wouldn't have killed him to bring in a Jiu Jitsu coach to help his team. He surely knows some guys who could help in that area. Yes, he could point out that Saku managed to beat most of the Gracies using Shootwrestling, but still...Shootwrestlers need to know the style at least to defend against it, if they aren't going to use it themselves. As far as his training goes, I am of two minds. Shamrock keeps himself in very good physical condition...if I look like him when I'm 40 I'll be pretty damn happy...and we can at least be assured that he isn't using roids at this point, because he has needed to pass a few pee tests over the last few years. I am going to give his strength and conditioning guy a chance before I condemn him. Shammy's does know a fair bit about diet and nutrition, so I'm not going to base my opinion off a two minute clip. Here I need to take serious issue with you. Having done some rudimentary training in Jiu Jitsu and Shootwrestling both, I can tell you that an open handed palm strike to the head (IF properly thrown) can do just as much damage as a punch, if not more...and cause less damage to the hand. Just check out any interview with Bas Rutten where he talks about his days in Pancrase. Some of the fights there were worked (especially the ones featuring two native fighters) but still in all...palm strikes are no joke. I'm not saying they'd work in UFC...because of the gloves they wouldn't...but Shootwrestling is still a style that can be effective if used properly.
