Saints v Pompey on TV this weekend. The most violentest game in the south. Hopefully we can kick our losing run at St Mary's.

So, as 2004 draws to a close, it's time to pimp your tip for 2005. Reasons, links and reccomended tracks are more than welcome. Mine is a British art-funk-punk band called Bloc Party. At first glance they fall in with the line of 80's retro bands with Franz Ferdinand (my tip last year) Interpol and The Futureheads, but when you delve deeper theres a lot more there to like. They don't have the same air of "cool", and instead just give of a vibe of pure energy both live and on record. And while those bands seem to have a pre-meditated air to them, Bloc Party have a much darker sound that really goes to the soul. They're what Blur would sound like if Damon Albarn really was a punky soulful 23 year-old black South Londoner, instead of just thinking he was. Their debut album Silent Alarm is out early next year (Febuary in the UK, March in the rest of the world) although it's already widely available on slsk. It's a truly great album that could well be the underground sleeper hit of the year. Full of jagged guitars, dancy beats, pounding bass and brooding hook-laden songs, while the production is amazingly complex and rich for such a relatively unknown band. The opening run of songs (Like Eating Glass, Helicopter, Positive Tension, Banquet and Blue Light) is an amazing start to the album and while some songs (most noticably Price Of Gas) don't live up to expectations, it's a great cohesive rich album that deserves to be listened to on your music player when you're walking home at night. It's so good, that even two of their greatest earlier tracks (Little oices and Tulips) aren't missed. I give my absolute highest reccomendations to this band, both on record and live. Recomended Downloads: Helicopter, Little Voice, Positive Tension Find out more here: German record label bio Bloc Party website:includes early streaming samples (I recomend Tulips)

Phil Selway of Radiohead should be on that list. One hell of a great drummer.

The line before it is what makes the Clash lyric so bad. And it's not really that good a song. -
Sleeping With The Light On, or whatever it's called, is a great song. The Thunerbirds song is cool too. Busted were a great pop band. They will be missed.

Who reads the TSM content site?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in Site Feedback
J Hawk > PK > Nik I read the show recaps all the time. Because I don't get to catch Raw or SD until later in the week, the recaps are usually up so I can read them right after the show. -
Upcoming shows I'm seeing:

^ True Bloc Party in March. Fucking A. -
I fancy Pompey for the semis of the FA Cup this year. Maybe even the finals and a place in Europe a la Milwall. Although Scum vs Scum in the next round? I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

Sell me on Radiohead.

See if you can get the Spinning Plates version off the I Might Be Wrong live EP. It takes the track down to just vocals and piano and is absolutely beautiful. Hell, get the whole EP. Superb versions of Idioteque, EIIRP and True Love Waits. -

Religion vs. Evolution
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to The Amazing Rando's topic in No Holds Barred
No, "evolution in the common vernacular" wouldn't hold up, because the "common" people using it are even dumber than the dolts here, who have A) never studied it, B) don't understand it, or C) both. Really, how much study have you done on the theories and proof that support evolution? More than you. *snip a bunch of blah blah blah* Evolution as a word means less than love these days. I seriously, seriously, SERIOUSLY doubt that you've studied it more than me or are somehow more familiar with it than I am. I study biochemistry & molecular biology for fuck's sake - this is bread & butter/read-it-at-night-to-the-kids stuff to me. It's not a terrible theory; it's one with a Hell of a lot of holes due to the course of time. And given that your remarks thus far haven't contained anything of real substance, you're only instilling more doubt. Next you'll be describing intelligent design without even realizing it, or talking about infinite numbers of monkeys typing "War and Peace"... To anyone reading this thread: don't take his word for it. Hell, don't take mine. Just get "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins and the theories behind evolution & natural selection will make a Hell of a lot more sense. I have a Degree in Palaeobiology and Evolution and did my disertation on the evolution of foraminifera throughout the palaeozoic chalk of southern England.. I know more than Coey. He is my bitch. And IDRM is right about evolution being flawed. And Dawkins is more journalist than scientist. I'm surprised anybody so knowledgeable is pimping him. -
Also it amazes me how many people can't see Michaels turning in the EC match.

I dunno, Bloc Party seem to just have a different aura to them. Plus the albums a real grower, which is good. It keeps on revealing new charms. -
How many cats would it take to kill a man?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to rising up out of the back seat-nuh's topic in No Holds Barred
You are full of lies, good sir. -
Is Batista good enough to be the next big thing? Probably not, at least as a face. Is the Batista/HHH feud worthy of a WMXXI title match? Undoubtedly, especially given the alternatives. It would certainly be what the fans wanted to see on the biggest night of the wrestling year, even if he's gone by Summerslam. He's pretty much in the same situation as Benoit pre WMXX booking-wise.

1) Cena has been declining in popularity steadily for the last year. 2) His is not a main event gimmick. 3) He has not shown the skills required to be the next big thing. At the moment he's a two dimensional gimmick relying on cheap pops in both promos and in matches. When he gets more rounded as both a character and in the ring, then we'll talk. 4) At the moment Orton, Batista and even Bradshaw are ahead of him as regards most of the reasons you gave in your post.

A few cats? Perhaps. All the cats? Perhaps not. -
The desperate smell of winter wafted through the house as Incandenza returned home from his hunting trip. He held a secret in his heart that no man could ever bear witness to, let alone his beloved Agent. A secret burning his loins and his anus with a passion previously reserved only for his cat, Mittenaniac. Slowly he climbed those same stairs he had a thousand times before and opened the bedroom door. Lying on the bed was Agent, playing puppy. Incandenza unfurled his shlong to ride the Agent pony, but not with the same feeling of happyness he had befoe. "Trip my toy-hole rocket boy" said Agent. "Rightfully so" replied Incandenza "but truthfully I have more than just shlong to bring you tonight fair maiden". "Yeah cram my cavern good sir knight. Prey tell what be on thou think-box". "Thou art the truest highway in all Christendom my damsel. My dilema is this. I have the SARS". "Crikey. Should you not stop pounding mine buttocks?". "No, for the buttocks are my glory and we shall be as one". "Damn. I knew I shouldn't have fucked an indie kid". And know you know the whole story.
