Heaven and Hell...
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to Youth N Asia's topic in General Chat
There's a gay bar in London called Heaven. Very famous. And rather effeminate too. As for heaven and hell, I don't believe. Every religion since the dawn of time has attempted to come up with an answer to the question "what happens when we die?" and tie that in with their other explainations for nature. Now however, we know that the body is just a big battery, and there's no reason to question what happens when we die. So I don't. If there's a heaven, fair enough. But I'm not gonna live my life any different if there is, so I'm not particularly bothered by it. -
i'm not a floyd mark, but i'd argue that 'the wall' is more essential, just cause i think it has better songs on it. before it turns too pretentious about 2/3 of the way through, there's some great stuff ("hey you," "goodbye blue sky," "young lust," & almost everything else). While that albums got some good stuff on it, it's also got some absolute bollocks. "Annother Brick In The Wall pt. 1", "Vera", "Bring The Boys Back Home", "In The Flesh", "Mother", "The Show Must Go On", "The Trial" etc. Although "Nobody Home" is possibly Roger Waters best song.

Jeff Buckley's always worth a mention...

Personally, when I think of essential albums, I think of albums that you must own or have heard, for example: The Beatles: Revolver Nirvana: Nevermind Pink Floyd: Dark Side Of The Moon The Clash: London's Calling Marvin Gaye: What's Going On Led Zeppelin: IV R.E.M.: Automatic For The People Radiohead: OK Computer Albums that everyone should hear, regardless of their musical tastes. Albums which are creative and cultural highpoints. Albums that you can listen from start to finish, and every track stands out. Meddle is simply a good album. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone who didn't like Floyd's type of music. I like it, but it doesn't deserve to be in the same class as the albums above. Besides which, I think more people like Wish You Were Here, don't they?
-
Pink Floyd's only truly essential album is probably Dark Side Of The Moon. Not my favourite, but it's one you have to own.
-
Stones: Yes Jackson and Prince: Debatable If you're talking about essential albums, the list shouldn't be more than about 20 or so
-
You would argue this over London Calling? Can't BOTH be essential? I'd consider an "essential" album to be something of a landmark. London Calling is certainly a landmark album; nothing else the Clash did--regardless of quality--is a milestone. Sometimes it doesn't have to be your favorite album by a particular band. What's generally considered the essential VU album is the first one, and, while I like it a great deal, I prefer White Light/White Heat and the self-titled third record. Still, I wouldn't deny The Velvet Underground & Nico its place in the sun. Agreed. I don't think any band, with the possible exception of The Beatles, has released more than one "essential" album.

WWE Hires An Indian Dude
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to BoboBrazil's topic in The WWE Folder
Having read the article, it just seems like a publicity stunt, giving WWE an Indian wrestler and giving that guy the image of international superstar in his home country. Although if the guy can work, he'd make a good comedy face... -
Favourite Family Guy Character

Lois: Women aren't objects. Peter: Your mother's right Chris. Listen to what it says. Lois: Peter! Peter: Uh, I didn't say that. Lee Majors did. *cut to Lee Majors randomly standing in the corridor* LM: What? Women are things. Ah, random Family Guy at it's best... -

Exactly why is Shane wrestling @ Summerslam again?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh replied to Dangerous A's topic in The WWE Folder
I'd rather see Shane wrestle than anyone else on Raw, with the exception of Jericho and Helms. Sue me... -

Random Floyd makes any thread better... -
Why? After ten years of marriage they probably wont kiss each other anyway.

... Too much blip-bloop hatred! I'm not sure if I'd call it essential, but I think it might be my 2nd favorite album of theirs. Lyrically a lot of it's hogwash free-association, but musically it evokes wonderful mood and feeling. Every time I go back to it works. It's also structured really well, building tension up to "Idiotheque" and then sort of swimming about in the aftermath. The problem I have with Kid A is that it's way too derivitive, more than any other of theirs since Pablo Honey. While The Bends and OK Computer were both great, individual albums, Kid A just sounded like a Warp side-project. Plus, almost all the songs off the album sound better live. I'd probably argue for I Might Be Wrong being a better album...

Well, then edit them to say something funny and cool!

I am a massive Radiohead fan, but for a long time they were put on a pedestal as other-worldly in "credible" music magazines when they're just a damn good band. But they haven't been as over-rated as Nirvana are now...

Sue him for what? His ugly?

That is so going in my will Well, change it quick. You never know when you might get shot in the arm...

*Thats right kids! Now, for the low, low price of $29.99 you too can have a "The New Me Action Figure"!* Kid: Wow! It's so cool! I wonder if its anatomically correct? Parent: Don't worry Billy, it says here that every inch of "The New Me Action Figure" is correct, modelled on ACTUAL PHOTOS! *Thats right! And what's more, pull on his string and you can make him talk!* The New Me Action Figure: LOOK AT MY COCK! Kid: Wow. I love you "The New Me Action Figure"! *"The New Me Action Figure". In shops everywhere, so go buy it. NOW!*

Ah, TSM action figures. That's how I'm gonna make my millions...

I was replying to his point that he was ashamed to admit he liked The Moody Blues but not Kiss.
-
no. Why not? There are plenty of bands out there with a great collection of songs, but which are scattered throughout dozens of shitty albums. I'd recommend a best-of KISS over any of their albums ANY day (that includes destroyer). Same goes for a band I'm ashamed to like, the Moody Blues, and I don't doubt the same can be said for many other bands aswell. EDIT: And I'm aware that this is an essential albums thread, but I think best-ofs should be included regardless. You're proud to like Kiss, and ashamed to like the Moody Blues? Kids today, huh? Exactly. Got a problem? Surely The Moody Blues are more credible than Kiss. Surely anyone is more credible than Kiss...

Yes. If someone can do a good, impartial job, then it doesn't matter whether he is biased towards a country or not. Do you think Bush wasn't biased towards Saddam and Iraq after his dad went to war with them? Ultimately, I don't think Americans would ever elect a remotely non-American president anyhow. By the way, I said yes
