    OAO WrestleMania 22 thread - 4/2/06

If the RVD title shot is definitely happening at ONS II. it must be again Cena or HHH. Edge? His time has past (already) and him vs. RVD would just be anticlimatic. Incidentally, my review of WM22: Better than expected but not as good as the last couple. HHH vs. Cena and the Women's match were very good. The Smackdown 3way was good for what it was but should have been longer (natch). Orton is a tad underrated by internet folk, btw. Michaels-Vince wasn't actually good but perversely watchable. The MitB match was as good as expected considering the participants. The rest was junk, passable, or a little better than passable.

    Backlash Main Event announced...

Well, I'm bored with HHH on top of Raw but he's never going away so... At least that looks like a really decent main event match. HHH is one of the top 5 workers in WWE, Edge is in the top 10, and Cena may have piss-poor looking offense but he can be in very good matches with the right people (HHH, Edge, Angle, and JBL (!) so far). I wonder what RVD will be doing at Backlash? And Shelton? And the Spirit Squad? And...

    Most underrated and overrated pppvs

I found this sentence to be pretty funny. Anyway... Overrated: Wrestlemania X Underrated: Fall Brawl 95 (the War Games is AWFUL though)

    The Old School questions thread

Just thought I'd throw out this bit from Meltzer: > Brian Pillman called me up from the show the moment after it happened and we couldn't stop laughing about it. He said how the dirtsheet said The Giant would win the Battle Royal and it wasn't going to happen. Two weeks earlier in the Observer, it said Giant would win because that was the plan. The problem was, when they changed it to Savage winning, we had that in the week of the show. He said Savage had been working the boys about a torn tricep and he was fine. The funny thing was one arm at the time was half the size of the other, and the injury was legit, but he was working on it. Pillman called saying Hogan & Sting (it was Hogan's idea but Sting was with him on it) had lost their mind because Savage was going to lose to an armbar on the arm half the size of the other and Hogan killed the match storyline of his selling the arm. Plus,he told everyone Show wasn't winning. He said, "Observe this" and through it in a fire. <

One-on-one? Not that I know of. They were on opposite teams in various tag matches - the one I remember the most (because I was there) was Jake-Tito Santana-Bruno Sammartino vs. the Honkytonkman and the Hart Foundation in a 6-man elimination tag at the old Boston Garden in the Spring of 1987.

I always assumed Austin didn't work with Jarrett because Jarrett was about 16 miles below his level.

    Each NFL team's top scorer

I'm watching the Dolphins-Jets game and it's mentioned that Olindo Mare is the top scorer in Dolphins history. Anyone know where I can find a list of this for all teams? Or anyone know them all off the top of their heads?

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

They definitely had plans for a seperate WCW before the whole Invasion mess got under way. Couldn't get TV for it though. WCW was damaged goods. Not that they had many WCW stars to launch it with! Booker T, DDP, and...and...

I think Bigelow was the highest name guy they were willing to have job to LT. In exchange, Bigelow was promised a bigger push when he turned face. But I think teaming with Deasel at KOTR was as big as it got. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sure he got a crapload of money for it though!

If Shawn Michaels never hurt his back

coming in late here... I think Shawn would have made for stronger matches AND would have been a stronger heel for Austin to play off of. As it was, he had Vince who was an awesome heel but couldn't work the matches. So we got Foley twice (which were really good matches, granted. He just wasn't that strong a heel) and Kane once (yawn). We would have been better off with him. The shame is that Foley might not have become as big a star as he ended up being. Maybe.

Also known as "The Samoan Savage" in the NWA. Pretty creative.

I just watched Royal Rumble 1992

Although the time period we're really talking about (late 91 through Wrestlemania of 92) was a very successful period. It went in the toilet after that, I'll grant you...
  17. The Undertaker-Brock thing is a little overblown. I don't think there's anything wrong with the DDQ finish or with UT & Brock looking like they're on the same level. The average fan sees UT as a real badass, afterall. It didn't really hurt Brock in the long run and it was a good set up for a HITC rematch (what else whould they have done?). Then again, the NO MERCY buyrate was pretty disasterous...

Who would you put in your Hall of Fame?

Should be in (and some of these are thankfully): Bret Hart Hulk Hogan Bruno Sammartino Pedro Morales Bob Backlund Pat Patterson Andre the Giant Bobby Heenan Captain Lou Albano Freddy Blassie Randy Savage Ric Flair Harley Race Buddy Rogers Ivan Koloff I won't even start listing people that are in it but "shouldn't"...
  19. Sting is definitely underappreciated.

  21. Lex Luger Ultimate Warrior Buff Bagwell
  22. Excellent choice. He was over a few times during his career (Smoking Gunns, NAO (obviously), etc.). He seemed to get pretty damn loud pops when he returned (I'm thinking of his The One time period). Granted, he couldn't sustain interest on his own for the most part but...

    You Sold Out chants...

If I was offered a boatload of money by a bigger company that asked me to leave the smaller company (that wasn't even paying me anymore) without notice, YES, I would do it. Good for Mike Awesome. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well it sure worked out for him. Now it seems like he's blackballed from US promotions (hell remember ONS when everyone was shitting on him then he surprised them with a nice throwback to his ECW days with Tanaka?) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I loved that matche because it represented a part of ECW and it just kicked ass, despite not really being a "good" wrestling match. He may not work in the US but he probably made plenty of money from WCW abd his years and years in Japan. He's probably quite content.
