Hopefully the American people and our government will learn some tough lessons from this. I'm not holding my breath, but maybe something of value will come out of it. Of course, that's probably what people said after Vietnam too.

Ah, OK...yeah, that'll happen then.

Oh no! Someone is misusing HDTV! Call the FCC, so they can take several more years getting the broadcasters to convert to digital signals!

Hasn't the poker fad finally died off yet? It's on like four or five different cable channels. Enough already.

It's good Batista's wife doesn't work for WWE, or they would have fired her to take care of the situation, if Dave was really cheating on her with Melina...

What "Dumb to the Xtreme" skits are they talking about in that news release blurb? This is dumb...everyone knows MNM already accepted. The Hardyz never said they'd face more than one team, etc. Still, kind of amusing though.

Yeah, that part was pretty amusing.

There are a lot of criticisms against the Simpsons that are warranted. I still like the show, but it's definitely slipping. Things are annoy me the most: - Show often devolves into "The Adventures of Captain Idiot, Starring Homer." He gets a new job every episode, does the same stupid stuff over and over, etc. - Homer and Marge have marriage problems. Pops up usually twice a season. - Key characters will barely be featured in a whole episode (my comments about Bart and Lisa in this past Sunday's show). - Endless celebrity appearances which add nothing to the show. It seemed like there was an 8 or 9 episode run where a new band or celebrity was featured on every single show recently. - Inside jokes which basically acknowledge the show's decline. Cute, but kind of pathetic at the same time. - Key peripheral characters completely changing over the course of the show, or being overused. Mr. Burns comes to mind, specifically. He used to be someone you knew Homer would be legitimately scared of. Now he's practically another one of the boys at the power plant.

The thing that's annoyed me about Obama is that on the very night he was elected to the Senate, people were already talking about him running for President, basically because he's young and black. It's like, can't we let the guy actually accomplish something first before talking about making him leader of our whole country?

I don't know. Personally I thought that angle with Flair's "heart attack" came off as cheesy, but your milage may vary.

Frankly, I don't think the HD channels should be extra money at this point. If anything, the TV manufacturers and broadcasters should foot the bill to allow the digital cable and satellite providers to give free HD to all their subscribers. It would get more people buying HDTV sets if they knew they could take it home and instantly be getting HD channels from the services they already have. HD isn't coming fast enough, IMO.

I don't understand why a group of people would want to separate themselves from a larger nation anyway. The Europeans are gaining world power and economic clout by unifying under the EU. If anything, the US and Canada should be working together more closely.

Pretty much any fed vs fed type match...USWA killing off WCCW was pretty much permanent. Vince McMahon beating Ric Flair to control all of WWE would be similar.

I'd rather have great HD mixed with so-so HD on a channel, than no option at all.

Groom Shot & Killed By Police On Wedding Day

WHAT? They're letting blacks and mexicans be cops now??? -
Bah, they would've gotten it in Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta, or just about any other major US city. Pennsylvania and the northeast don't have the market on "smarkness" cornered. We have the internet and newsletters here in the Midwest, too.

Eh...I like watching HD, but half the stuff I like watching (wrestling, the Fox cartoon sitcoms, a lot of baseball games) are not in HD. I deal with it just fine. I wish more cable channels were offering an HD feed, like TNT does.

I'd like to see the rating drop to like a .5, just for one week, just to see what they'd do in panic mode.

Maybe it is Al Quada's fault. Does that mean our soldiers have to fight them on foreign soil forever?

Yeah...I didn't get the exact quote, but Paul Harvey of all people recently said on his show that Iraq was basically a lost cause for the US, or something along those lines. You know things are grim when the voice of the geriatric says something like that.

FOX News planning right-leaning show similar to Daily Show
Dobbs 3K replied to DerangedHermit's topic in Current Events
Oh, Stewart wishes they'd do that. The Daily Show would have a field day mocking something like that. And then, Colbert would come on and start condemning Stewart on his show... Now I wish they'd do it! Come on FOX! I'm sure you can dig someone up to say John Stewart enjoys raping teenage boys! I'm begging ya! -
Wow...it's been, what? Ten years now?

It's conversations like this that make me glad I don't work in electronics retail anymore. I bought my Mitsubishi 48" rear projection set in fall of '03, using money my wife and I got from our wedding...I finally had an HD-ready TV set, to go with my cool surround sound system. My co-workers were sayings stuff like "It doesn't have an HD tuner built in" (not that we had access to HD in our apartment anyway at the time, and most TVs at the time that had HD tuners built in were more expensive), or "Why didn't you wait to get a plasma?" I'm like, "Because I want to actually be able to watch DVDs and play Xbox on something that's good, and not on a little 19" dorm room TV that we had in our living room...plus, now I don't have to talk about getting a TV anymore and I actually have one, since, you know, we tell our customers how great they are and stuff." Good work, max...glad you're enjoying your TV and not obsessing about the specs.

Divorce? He's going to have to worry about more than that after waking up in an ice filled bathtub...
