"Hmmm...our ratings are stagnant. Let's fire the somewhat handsome guy who's usually on screen for no more than 60 seconds per episode, but leave the two guys who look like the uncles you always avoided at your family reunion. That should boost up those Nielsen numbers."

So, Princess Leena is getting married

Yeah, but this whole thread is about her. Hell, half of "Chocolate Socket" is about her. She's going to get criticized.

    FOX shows last night (11/26)

I think "The War at Home" and "Til Death" are two of the better "live action" sitcoms on TV right now, personally.

    HDTV

Im not wrong here though. He said "well it is a CRT TV which is the best kind of HDTV". Generally, projection sets, even if they technically are CRTs, are not considered the best kind of HDTV due to the odd viewing angles and such. Regular flat screen CRT HDTVs are still considered the best for picture quality (most notably better black color than any other option) despite the fact that they are about 50 times larger and 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper or more for comparitive options. That is true, if I understand what you were saying correctly. One of the reasons I'm still shying away from LCD and plasma screens is in fact the lack of deep blacks. Greyish blacks just look awful to me. Maybe they've improved over the last year or so, but I'm not sure as of yet.
  5. Yeesh...three wrestling PPVs in December, three in January. That's nuts. However, I understand they still make good money off each PPV, so I doubt either company will cut back anytime soon.
  6. Do they really charge $40 for WWE PPVs now? God. And they have a PPV like every couple weeks it seems. No, I was exagerrating. It's really only $39.95 To be honest, this would've been the first one I ordered in a long time. Just glad I saved my cash.

Classic WCW Nitro, Thunder, & Saturday Night...

Man, I'd forgotten the main event on _that_ episode was Scott Steiner vs Sting, and that the Luger/Sting vs Steiners feud was basically the biggest thing WCW had going at the time.

Yeah, the move with Borash seems like TNA is just trying to copy WWE's formula, which is the complete opposite of what they should be doing. Also, it's apparent Abyss is TNA's Kane, but do they have to be any more obvious about it?

Groom Shot & Killed By Police On Wedding Day

Is that English? That be ebonics.

As long as DX doesn't win the tag titles, I'm fine with whatever they do to the belts at this point.
  11. Well, on one hand, if they do want to make Batista the big guy on Smackdown, they may as well do it sooner than later, because he obviously isn't getting any younger.

    Christmas Music

    "Father Christmas" by the Kinks.
  13. Yeah, that whole movie is non-English, so they had to have someone do a voiceover for it. May as well have Gibson do it, since he's going to be associated with it anyway. I thought it looked intriguing from the trailer on TV last night.
  14. I was disappointed I decided not to order originally, but after reading the reviews it sounds like it's a good thing I saved my 40 bucks. Sounds pretty "eh" from the reviews.

Well, either way... I'm curious if max got the TV he wanted or not.
  16. Ugh...why? Undertaker doesn't need the belt at this point in his career, and the "streak" doesn't mean as much as WWE makes it out to. Having him go over Batista, a guy they're supposed to be building around, allegedly, would be stupid at this point.
  17. I was going to order, but I couldn't get anyone else over to watch it...can't really justify spending forty bucks to watch a PPV by myself. Also, FOX has new episodes of the cartoon stuff on tonight, which my wife would rather watch...so, yeah.

That was the one thing I hated...all the stupid 2 vs 1 and 3 vs 1 matches, though that's often how RAW was booked at the time.

You guys are splitting hairs. Technically a rear projection TV (aka a "big screen") is a CRT TV, since it still uses cathode ray tubes. A traditional CRT set (generally under 40" in diagonal screen size) is more accurately called a "direct view" set. As an aside, RCA must be one of the last manufacturers currently marketing a rear projection set. The last time I was in Best Buy, it was all LCD, plasma, and DLP (microdisplay) type sets.

Yeah, it's kind of sad that six years later, WWF No Mercy is still basically the best wrestling game to ever come out in North America. It shouldn't be hard to copy that formula. For me, the only game better that I've ever played is Fired Prowrestling D for Dreamcast. Still love that game. I don't have a PS2, so I haven't played any of the sequels.

    OAO 11/23 Impact Thread

I think the Williams storyline is good so far. At least it's something that gets him away from being "that Team Canada guy with the flip piledriver".
  22. Maybe Dreamer is mad because no one has ever let him cut in line.

    Who's travelled to Europe?

Don't worry about "being American". People are generally friendly. We went to Europe last summer and had no problems. We didn't hide where we were from or put maple leaves on our backpacks, or any of that crap. If you're going to Germany, I'd advise learning at least some basic German. English isn't as prevalent there as in some other cities. Sure, you can usually find someone who speaks it, but you don't want to be dinking around at a bus station trying to figure out where you need to head, etc. If you like beer...you'll love Europe. The Germans have the best in the world, IMO. I recommend Radeberger and Kostritzer. A pint of beer is usually pretty cheap in most places (like 2 or 3 bucks tops). Speaking of Germany, Dresden is a wonderful city. You can see how they've rebuilt all the old buildings since the firebombing in World War II. Berlin is...well, an industrial city that is a little bit underwhelming, IMO. We didn't really run into any neo-nazis, but we didn't go into any obviously non-friendly areas either. Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, is a fun city, and EVERYONE speaks English there. We didn't go to any "coffee shops" or the red light district, and still had a great time. They have a really nice hostel there as well. Check out the museums for sure. Hosteling is a great route to save some money. You'll need to purchase memberships with Hosteling International in advance. They can direct you to local hostels in each city you'll be visiting. As far as London, we stayed at a nice hostel about two blocks from St. Paul's Cathedral. Hostels usually have inexpensive meals available (especially breakfast...though European breakfast tends to consist of cold cuts, bread, and cheeses...sometimes eggs and sausage, but not always). Mass transit is cheap, and the best way to get around. Train passes generally need to be purchased in advance. Sorry I don't know the website off hand. Make sure you bring enough money, or at least have credit cards and/or travelers checks available. Get a good hiking backpack that will be easy on your back. Don't overpack. A lot of stuff you'll need can be purchased in local shops or at the airport, and then tossed before you fly back home. Other than that, give yourself enough time. You'll probably need at least four weeks to adequately see everything you're planning on. We crammed our trip into less than two weeks, and while we still had a blast, it was hectic.

    Video Games...

Speaking of SNES games, anyone else ever play Natsume Championship Wrestling for SNES? I was probably the one person to own a copy that I knew. I believe this was a domestic version of All Japan Pro Wrestling. All the guys are generic in Natsume, but the movesets pretty much match the AJPW guys, IIRC. Actually had a good grapple system (kind of like Fire Pro's) and each guy had a pretty good moveset (including powerbombs and moonsaults, which hadn't been seen in too many games at that point). (Edit: Just noticed DubQ mentioned this game on the first page of the thread.)

How do you feel about Iraq?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061123/ap_on_...aq_061123155736 OK...if that doesn't scream "civil war", I don't know what does.
