    TNA/Spike TV Conference call recap

Do I detect that Jarrett realizes he doesn't need to be a main eventer in the company anymore, or am I overly hopeful?

Kurt Angle shoots with Dave Meltzer

Dead on. The question is, does TNA realize this as well?

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Good for him. His height is inevitably going to lead to health problems of some type or another. He may as well get out while he can, and enjoy his retirement. I mean, is there really much else they can do with Big Show in this era, anyway? Besides, even if he does "retire", he can always come back for special matches down the line and probably make a ton of money for each one.

    WWF/E Tidbits from the past

Speaking of Big Show I wonder if he lost some weight like say at least 50 or so pounds would it help with all the back, knee, etc problems he's having. Lord knows it couldn't hurt. I think people have always ridden Big Show a little hard about the weight thing. I mean, he's seven foot tall and his last name isn't "Bol". He's going to carry some girth. Yeah, he's gotten chunky at certain points in his career, but overall I think he's stayed in pretty good shape.

TNA Comments which don't warrant a thread

Ah well...small loss for TNA. What's he going to do? Go to WWE and be yet another "big intense guy"?

    The OaO Raw Thread 13/11/2006

Yeah...most of the DX "bounty hunting" segments were pretty lame. HHH and HBK are funny, yes, but it didn't really advance their feud with Rated RKO at all. Also, didn't DX squash those four guys less than a month ago? Why didn't they just take HHH's sledgehammer and anally rape all of them in the middle of the ring? It was basically the same thing...

    4,000 dead Americans

"Mission Accomplished" Sorry, someone was going to say it. Seriously, let's get the hell out of there while the gettings good.
  8. I'm almost positive Abdullah has _never_ worked for WWF...I recall an RF shoot video he did a few years ago where he said one of his last goals in wrestling was to work "in New York." So far he has not.
  9. Kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point, aren't they?

Kurt Angle shoots with Dave Meltzer

I don't know how bad a "Rise and Fall of Kurt Angle" DVD could really be. I mean, any "bad" Angle moment in WWF/WWE would clearly be an intentional comedy moment. Warrior had lots of just over the top ridiculous moments in WWF, but Angle, I don't think so much. The worst they could do would be to have various interview segments with people talking about Angle being "dangerous to work with" or something, but viewers can usually see through that crap.

JBL is gold on the mic. I don't care what anyone says.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

Good point. Well, we'll probably really have to wait 'til the end of January, since the new Congress doesn't start until then.

WON TNA News and Notes - November 13th

A black Bane. Don't see why it couldn't work, I guess. Seriously, from what I've seen, despite resemblances, Bob Sapp has way more charisma than either Monte Brown or Bobby Lashley.

Kurt Angle shoots with Dave Meltzer

I think people are taking Angle a little bit too literally.

"Stone Cold Steve Austin" would be a terrible announcer. It would be amusing for one episode, and then get insanely annoying. If he reverted to just plain old "Steve Austin" and kept the sloganism and beer chugging crap to a minimum, I think he'd probably be decent. However, especially teaming with "Good Ol' J.R.", that would never happen.

The OAO 2006 US Elections Thread

I think they've learned their lesson, or are at least starting to. I mean, have you heard anyone say "cut and run" since the election?

    Classic Raw...

Something I was just thinking of...remember when Ken Shamrock first came to WWF? I thought they did a good job building him up on RAW, with him making challenges and such. They even had Dan Severn sit down on commentary during one of his matches, and Severn did a good job putting over Shamrock's MMA background. This was during the time when WWF and UFC were sort of, kind of, working together. Severn even said something like "UFC is the safest sport in the world, no one has been killed in a UFC match, unlike boxing or other sports," and Vince McMahon said "Or even pro-wrestling." Just kind of a weird moment that would never happen today.

    Wrestling Shows....

WWF Mania was kind of fun for what it was...it was designed to cater to younger fans, and while a good portion of it was Monday Night Raw highlights, they'd sometimes have exclusive matches, and they'd do some unique interview segments, comedy bits, etc. Todd Pettengil hosted, and for a while his co-host was Randy Savage, which was kind of funny. I was going to mention that WWF Action Zone was actually a pretty good show for a while. They had exclusive matches, including that famous Clique tag team match...I think eventually they phased it into being another recap show for RAW, and it kind of went downhill from there.

    The Old School questions thread

Eh? I think it's on youtube or somewhere like that, but basically what happened is Sid was starting to cut a promo in front of the camera along with Ted Dibiase. He flubbed a line, then said something like "Let's start over," and Jim Ross (at least I think that's who it was interviewing him) said "We're live, pal!" so Sid quickly improvised something and stormed off, IIRC. The announcers played it off as Sid being a lunatic.

    WON News + Notes - November 13th

You are correct. The 50/50 crowds for Cena have probably turned to more like 90/10, with the majority cheering him. I think the main problem people have with Cena's ringwork is that he works a fairly robotic WWE "main event style"...but basically he does the same kind of stuff as Austin, Rock, Triple H, Booker T, etc. If you don't like Cena's ringwork, you probably don't like most WWE matches anyway.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

I don't, but that parody by Disco Inferno was hillarious. Konnan even thought it was funny. "Oil of Olay, all day every day!"

I remember at least one episode of Monday Night RAW back when JR was out where Hayes teamed with Michael Cole, and I thought Hayes did a pretty good job. I really do think, even putting aside their declining announce skills, the Lawler/Ross team is past its time. Maybe they could send Lawler to Smackdown to team with Cole, and put JBL with JR just to mix things up a bit. JR and Lawler have both seemed a lot better being paired with other people before. I think mixing up the two announce teams would do everyone some good.
  24. I know they're trying to make the James Gang into an edgy DX-type group, but I don't know if this is a good move. Seems like this is just going to piss off WWE, who have more or less ignored TNA up until now. I hope for TNA's sake this doesn't bite them in the ass. I love the idea about having the Rock appear at WrestleMania for a Hall of Fame appearance or something similar. I mean, we've seen Hogan plenty of times in the past year in a WWE ring, but haven't seen Rock in what, three years or so? The Rock at least would be relevant, whereas Hogan kind of had his big sendoff at last year's ceremony. Unforunately, Duane Johnson doesn't seem like he wants to have much to do with WWE anymore, which is probably Vince's fault more than anything.
  25. Really don't have any interest in seeing Hogan in another paint-by-numbers high profile match at this point. If WWE genuinely needs the guy nearly 20 years past the height of his drawing power for their biggest event of the year, then that is just sad and pathetic.
