Anyone else think these "Problems at the Poll" stories are being a little overblown? I mean, it's like "Oh no, a voting machine broke down in Bumblefoot, Arkansas". They just can't wait to start with the "voting irregularities" stories, I guess.

The OAO Raw #702 Thread (November 6th)

WWE needs to learn that we don't give a shit about these stupid back office characters, or announcers, or Jonathan Coachman. I know they like using people like this because they tend to stay with the company for long periods of time, but no one is going to buy a ticket to see "Big Dick Johnson" wave his flab around in the ring, unless they have a gay fattie fetish, and I don't think that is a lucrative niche to attract advertisers with. -
Actually sounds like it could be an exciting match, and glad to see they're bringing back the 5vs5 format, at least for this one match. Of course, with the rumors from a few months back that DX was trying to hold down CM Punk, it's interesting to see he's going to be on their team...

Never heard of a "Wally Cosmo." Are you sure he didn't say "Wally Karbo?" He was a real promoter, associated primarily with the AWA.

One thing I've been thinking for a long time: I suspect a large portion of the WWE fanbase at this point is made up of "smartmarks" with internet access, as much as the company hates to admit it. However, the large amount of Cyber Sunday votes is definitely evidence of this. A large portion of the commentary you read on this board and other sites is largely unhappy with the current WWE direction and product. You would think, that a large and loyal audience would be able to effect changes in the product of the company that is producing it. There must be substantive measures we can take to make WWE cater to us. What those are, I am not sure. Any thoughts? I know many will say "Vince doesn't care, etc", but I have to believe that if enough of us made our thoughts known, WWE would at least think about making changes, especially if they saw the dollar signs that those changes could produce.

Do a search on Google pictures under "Mickie James" or "Alexis Laree" and you'll find them soon enough...they're wrestling pics, but not the kind you'd expect.

I hope the A's still call themselves "The Oakland Athletics", rather than some stupid name change like the Angels underwent (and that was without even moving to a new stadium). Sorry if he's been discussed already, but one guy I'm curious about is Carlos Lee, being a Brewers fan. It sounds like he won't be with the Rangers again next season, and rumor has it the Astros or Cubs might make a play to sign him as a free agent. He could really help someone's lineup. The Brewers definitely suffered when he was traded this past season (well, that, and all the other injuries they had basically killed their offense).

YEah, I was finding myself surfing back and forth between RAW and MNF last night, and I'm not even a huge NFL fan...it's just RAW really has been struggling to hold my interest lately. Definitely not "must see TV" anymore. Hoping ECW is at least moderately more entertaining tonight. -

Cena's promo was actually decent, though. Kind of dumb that he saved Maria after Umaga had practically killed her though. Also, what does that say for every other babyface on RAW? "Oh, Bischoff is making this 100 pound woman fight a Samoan monster. I could save her...oh fuck it." Also, did we need to have two different variations on the "fight with one arm tied up" theme? Ending with Bick Dick was appropriate, since that's what RAW sucked all night long. Had to love the dead crowd reaction, and DX dancing around like tools, with JR trying to shill it like it was something hillarious and awesome. -
Ugh...I hate tables matches. They're so stupid and antiquated. Still, it looks like a pretty solid show, so I hope things come off well for TNA.

Edit: n/m. -
From what I've heard, the WWF wanted to break the team up and use them as singles wrestlers, and the Freebirds basically said "screw this" and went back to the NWA. Personally, I think they could've worked as solo wrestlers (at least Hayes and Gordy...Buddy Roberts probably could've been a manager for the two), but breaking them up right away would've been a waste. Imagine seeing the Freebirds work against the British Bulldogs, Hart Foundation, etc.
-
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Vince was just trying to do something nice by hiring Gordy at that point, hate to say it. I doubt most WWF fans at that point would've really known who the Freebirds were, anyway. A reunion like that could've worked in WCW where they had history, but the Freebirds only worked WWF for like a month in the mid '80s.
-
I agree. They need to quit taking the Ring of Honor approach to promotion and start taking the WWE route if they want to move up to the next level.
-
Was it something I said?
-
You're probably right. However, I don't think it would hurt anything to televise the hanging, and then mutilate and burn his body, either.
-
Does any opinion really matter, though? I mean, the current administration has shown and even adamantly stated that they are not going to change current policies. I mean, if say, Henry Kissinger, wrote an op ed piece similar to Olbermann's, is it going to have any more weight or meaning at this point?
-
I guess I just think putting the belts on Orton/Edge would give the belts a little more crediblity, since they've become so devalued under the Spirit Squad. I realize WWE doesn't give a crap about any of the non-World Titles, but I think it makes sense from a pure booking perspective.
-
You know, I've never seen any of the "...of the Dead" movies yet. I really need to at least see the original "Night of the Living Dead" movie, but my wife is scared to death of horror movies, so I don't know when that will happen.
-
That scene brought down nearly everyone in my audience. I don't think any other part received as much silence. Yeah, that was the same reaction when I saw it. It was like "Oh, wait, he's making fun of us too", but it fit with the movie, I suppose. I did find the "gypsy" scene amusing. Also, the two of them throwing money at the cockroachs nearly had me in tears.
-
No, I'm talking about how Libya gave up their nuclear arms program a couple years ago, due mainly to the Iraq invasion.
-
It just depends how they break up the group. There are rumors that one or two of them may go back to OVW for a while to fine tune their gimmicks and wrestling before they come back. I hope Kenny goes full blown heel, and maybe they can have him ally with Edge and Orton as has been suggested before. Johnny Jeter seems like he should stay up, too, so maybe they can have him turn face and feud with Kenny.
-
Yup in NWA Wildside. See, I never got that about Christopher Daniels...he's called "The Fallen Angel" but he doesn't really play up the gimmick in TNA. He just seems like another regular wrestler guy who happens to wear a weird robe to the ring.
-
Really looking forward to the barbed wire cage match, though I wonder how "hardcore" it's going to be, since this is their first primetime show. Seeing Angle wrestle again is going to be pretty interesting. I really hope Spike is doing a lot to promote this event. If no one knows about it in advance, it's going to be hard for them to get a much better rating than they normally do currently.
