"good workrate skills?" Has he even wrestled in the last couple years?
-
Hell, some conservative pundits still tout that we won Vietnam (If that was victory, I'd hate to see what losing would've looked like...we'd probably all be speaking Vietnamese).
-
Yeah, they do need to take a page out of WWE's book on that one. We may get sick of it, but when WWE has a PPV, you definitely know about it, one way or another.
-
It's not "a couple of weeks" after Survivor Series, it's just one week, the very next weekend. This is brutal. Cyber Sunday, few weeks later is Survivor Series and the next week is ECW's first PPV. Fuck you, McMahon. Well, people are still ordering the PPVs, though, I guess. No reason to cut down on a source of revenue if it's making money.
-
Ugh...the Elimination Chamber was an Eric Bischoff innovation (at least in kayfabe terms). Having it at an ECW PPV makes zero sense. I was thinking of going to this taping, but decided against it. Glad I didn't go, since it sounds like a lackluster couple shows, wrestling-wise.

I don't actually need this, but a gif of Dwight throwing a high kick at Oscar during the episode that aired last night would be funny.

How do you know? This is one of those things that bother me about message boards like this...someone probably made an offhanded comment a while ago that Vince McMahon does cocaine, and it's suddenly taken as fact. Do you actually have any proof for that allegation? I mean, you just said the chairman of a billion dollar company does drugs...it's not out of the realm of possibility, but what evidence do you actually have?
-
Those are something the poster (I think it's Hunter's Torn Quad, but I could be mistaken off hand) just puts up in his leisure time. It's not designed to be a regular feature or column on this message board, from what I've gathered. There's a lot more to this forum than the WON recaps, though (as nice as those are to read).

I'm not sure who would own that footage off hand...I think GWF actualy had two or three different ownership groups over its short life. I remember watching it after school on weekdays...but looking back, I'm sure some of the wrestling was pretty awful that they had on.

Classic WCW Nitro, Thunder, & Saturday Night...
Dobbs 3K replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in General Wrestling
Thanks for posting these. I enjoyed reading them. Despite the bad wrestling, WCW was pretty much outshining WWF in terms of big matches on Monday nights at the time. -
It's a smart move, marketing/brand-awareness wise. These guys are "comodities" and the easier it is for fans to recognize them, the better. When fans do recognize them, all it makes them think is that TNA is a watered down version of WWE/WCW with has been stars from those two companies. They should do like ECW did and have them run down their old WWF/WCW gimmicks, and then have them become more realistic characters. You sure as hell don't want people to go "Hey, remember when these guys were at their peak in the WWF?" every time they come out. Anything they do differently with them is better. Imagine if when Hall and Nash jumped to WCW, they had came out with crappy versions of their WWF music, instead of being the NWO. People would have been reminded of the WWF every time they came out, and not in a positive way for WCW. Rather than that happening, it became "Man, these guys used to be cartoon characters in the WWF, and now they're like real people". Actually, at the time, before they debuted in WCW, there were all kinds of crazy rumors about how Hall and Nash were going to debut. I remember one rumor that Nash was going to be called "D-Cell" and that Hall was going to be "Slasher Ramirez" or something like that. I think if TNA had taken a similar route with the Dudleyz, and made them less like their WWE selves, they'd be a lot better off right now.

Well, I'm sure we'll get lots of great interview segments with the likes of Steve Lombardi and Jim Ross.
-
Speaking of Goldberg...does anyone have a pic of that Nitro ending where Goldberg had gotten beat down in the ring, Nash came out and saved him, and it looked like they were having a special "moment" at the end? That was a weird one.
-
I found it extra amusing because there's a local radio announcer here from a popular morning show who's been talking about going as Steve Irwin with a barb in his chest for Halloween.
-
Now that I know which DVD we're talking about, I think I may have to pick this one up. Unfortunately, I was too young to see WCCW in it's heyday, but I remember the GWF on ESPN, which was sort of the offspring of WCCW, and I've seen a lot of the old WCCW classic angles on tape. Definitely glad to hear "Heroes of World Class" doesn't sugar coat anything.

Oh yeah, I'm sure the yellow and red is going to win this one...
-
Why? It was pretty unintentionally hillarious, from what I recall reading.

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20061028/D8L1P2M80.html Latest news from Madison about this weekend's goings on...no reports of Hunter S. Thompson gonzo urinations as of yet.
-
The question is, will the networks throw parties if the number reaches 100, while giving somber reports on the air?
-
"Hail Sabin" was good because you at least knew who was coming out. Most of TNA's themes are extremely generic...just a bunch of distorted guitars and repetitious beats. I can't even remember Samoa Joe's music off the top of my head, and I've probably seen the majority of his televised TNA matches. I really think they need to bring in some bands to cut some new songs, like someone else suggested. At least some lyrics would add something.

**SPOILERS** TNA Impact results for the next two weeks
Dobbs 3K replied to CubbyBr's topic in TNA Wrestling
They need to get Jarrett the hell off TV for a good two or three months (at least), if they want him to have a successful face turn. I mean, is it that hard to say "Jarrett got injured during his match with Sting," have him off TV, then do a run in at a PPV and save Sting from a beatdown, followed by an interview saying "I respect this man because he beat me fair and square," etc? It's less stupid than trying to make us feel sorry for El Kabong because his family has had health issues. He's been the face of TNA basically, for five years. Sometimes the fans need a break from a wrestler. -
I don't know if the "live versus taped" ratings thing holds water. I'm pretty sure there are stats that show when RAW was taped a lot back in the day, the effects of being live had a negligible effect on the ratings. I mean, the average fan isn't going to check taping results to see if they should tune in or not. They're either going to watch it or not, not say "Well, this week is taped so I don't care." Plus, broadcasting live is a lot more expensive than airing a taped show...TNA just doesn't have the funds to be live all the time. I think the timeslot move should give them a decent boost. Right now I try to watch, and I fall asleep in the middle of the show because it's on relatively late, even if I know something big is happening at the end of the show. I don't think you can really blame WWE for TNA's woes...I'm sure if Vince wanted to, he could really hurt TNA by luring away some of their wrestlers, etc. I think WWE fans are still wrestling fans deep down...if they like the show, they'll tune in and watch, just like they did with WCW Nitro. TNA needs to step up their game in terms of production, announcing, and storylines. The announcing is particularly grating and makes TNA seem so bush league...if something big happens, let the moment speak for itself. We don't need Don West and Mike Tenay screaming about how awesome it is non-stop.

I thought "20 Good Years" was pretty funny. I've enjoyed "30 Rock" so far...though I missed it this week. I loved the exchange Alec Baldwin had in the first episode with Tina Fey: "We're a big company...NBC, Universal, K-Mart..." "We own K-Mart now?" "No, so why are you dressing like we do?"
-
The thing with Jim Ross as a heel announcer is they never really went anywhere with it both times. He was linked to guys who never did anything and were around for pretty short periods of time (first Razor and Diesel II, who had no personality) and then Dr. Death. Kind of a waste.

It looks real, but I don't remember ever hearing about that one.
