Yeah, I wouldn't say the problem with Goldber in WWE was him not beating enough people. It was just more about how his character was portrayed. They wasted a lot of effort in trying to make him comedic, or turn him into the next Rock, when he should have just been an all out badass beating the crap out of people.

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
Dobbs 3K replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Wow, didn't hear about that one. I would almost be willing to track that down just to see it. I'm sure it was pretty surreal. -
And X-Pac.

If we're talking "best roster" purely on paper, then WCW in 1997/1998 wins. If you mean "best utilized roster", then WWF from about 1999/2000 wins hands down, I think.

I think Brock's squashes of Zach Gowen and Spanky Kendrick on Smackdown were some of the best monster heel moments ever. I mean, how could you not like Brock beating the crap out of a one-legged wrestler, in front of his own mom?
-
I've heard that too. I remember Mark Madden talking about how while other guys were dining at fancy restaurants after shows, Scott Hall would be going into Subway for dinner.

I remember the start of Vader's face turn being really bizarre. Something about Kevin Sullivan trying to recruit Vader to the Dungeon of Doom, offering him special powers and Vader being insulted by it, or something to that affect.

I think I went to the only grade school in the US that didn't have "Oregon Trail".

I was going to ask "Is this before or after orgasming?" but Leena just alluded to it.

My issue with WWE Films is this...Let's say "The Marine" is a success, and John Cena becomes a successful actor (maybe not even after this film, but one or two movies later). Eventually, he'll leave WWE just like the Rock did, and again WWE will be without a top babyface who is marketable. It just seems like sacrificing the future of the "wrestling" side of WWE's business for some short term gains in their film division. I guess it probably makes WWE look better to investors, though.

I don't think you can truthfully say Goldberg had a generic move set. The spear, jackhammer, pumphandle suplex, thrust kick, etc. were all pretty innovative big man moves back in 1997 & 1998. Hell, if nothing else, a lot of his moves were ripped off by WWF guys a year or two later.

It's basically been proven that Bush had a vendetta against Saddam from the moment he came into the White House (possibly with some cause, but that's beside the point). I think they would've found some reason to invade eventually, whether it was violations of UN declarations or whatever.

Wow, talk about "Left of the Dial." Congrats on your show, though. Hope it leads to bigger and better things for you. Be sure to do show prep (have a set list ready for each show, maybe a few topics to discuss) and you'll do fine, I'm sure. I used to DJ at a college radio station and had a great time...had my own show for a while. Still working in radio, but not on-air.

Well, yes there were some great matches in there, to be sure. I think a better idea would be a "Best of RAW" compilation box set...not necessarily every episode or every little thing that happened, but a set covering the best matches and angles throughout the 10+ years of Monday Night RAW.

Huh. Guess I must've been getting a snack or something when that happened. Oh well. I do like that show, though. It's different enough from every other run of the mill family sitcom show to distinguish itself, at least.

That's weird. You'd think they'd get something in the contracts covering music rights to future releases. Though I suppose in the '80s with a show like "The Wonder Years" it was hard to be that forward thinking, since new releases on VHS were often $30 or more, and DVD was unknown.

I watched last night. I thought the Simpsons episode was pretty good. At first I rolled my eyes, since it seems like they've been using Fat Tony a lot more in recent years, but the introduction of his son as a new character was actually pretty entertaining. I laughed out loud at the end where he was playing with the race cars and they closed the door on Lisa. It was also nice to have an episode not totally focused on Homer for a change. Family Guy was pretty good as well. Can't really add anything to what's been said, but I think Family Guy is consistently the funniest of the FOX cartoon shows right now. American Dad wasn't quite as good as the other two last night. I'm hoping this is just an aberration, and not a sign of things to come this season. The plot with Roger and Stan's wife pretending to be different people was pretty funny though. The main plot was kind of weak, though. Just not quite as much funny material as they usually have, I thought. War at Home was also entertaining. Seemed like they didn't wrap up much of the plot before the end of the episode. I think that's a regular thing with this show, though. Like, Larry changed his name to "Gideon" last night, and they never really resolved that, unless I missed something.

Yeah, senior year is the best. I think I had like three classes my final semester, and always had Fridays off (which was nice since Thursdays were the big party night at my school). College was good, but I'm so glad I'm done with it.

I always liked Kronus as a worker. I marked out for his somersault splash off the top rope. How come he never got a break like Saturn did?
-
I give Goldberg credit. He came in with WCW having no real apparent plan for him, and got over by wrestling a basic power style and looking like a total badass. You have to remember, after his first few weeks he was really over, and hadn't even said a word yet. He did get a lot of help. A lot of guys put him over, but that's what wrestling is about. I think WCW did a good job promoting "the streak" and all of that, to their credit. Goldberg wasn't a great worker, but you don't always have to be to make money in pro-wrestling. And the comparisons between Lesnar and Goldberg are unnecessary IMO. Two totally different types of wrestlers.

That would probably be the solution in an ideal world, but wouldn't get much support from the Middle East as a whole. Turkey (one of our biggest allies) will never approve of a separate Kurdish state in Northern Iraq, because Turkey's own Kurdish population would want to separate from Turkey as well. Iran would probably absorb or effectively control any sort of Iraqi Shiite state, which wouldn't be in our interests, either. The whole thing is just a mess. We're trying to make a democracy out of people who have never had freedom or press or freedom to vote (fairly) before. They didn't even ask to be freed. Yes, many of them hated Saddam, but I wonder how much of the Iraqi population would have simply allowed another strongman to take over, simply for the relative safety and security a dictator or one party system would provide. After all, it's all they've ever known...and if the trains run on time and the nation is relatively at peace, with good medical care and literacy rate, how much more can they want?

I don't like Vice President Cheney, but you have to hand it to the guy, he can handle himself in an interview.

Has it really been 5 years allready? 9-11-2001
Dobbs 3K replied to Steve J. Rogers's topic in Current Events
I think it's important for people to remember that day. I think people forget how awful it really was. Time heals all wounds, but sometimes we have to remember tragic events so that we remember to learn from them. Where are the 9/11 conspiracy theorists today, anyway? -
OK, sorry if this has been discussed already, or if this should be in the WWE folder...but I have to ask: I have never seen Ring of Honor and no longer buy or trade tapes. However, people constantly talk about this CM Punk. People seem to have a strong reaction about him one way or another: Either they love him and portray him as the second coming of Ric Flair or Chris Benoit, or they see him as a smart markish indy wrestler who doesn't work a realistic style. I guess, what's all the hype about, and is he really that good?

Yes, smoking pot is a great way to succeed in college, too.
