The list of 141 Programs Bush wants to cut or eliminate for 2007 budge
Dobbs 3K replied to MarvinisaLunatic's topic in Current Events
Fine...if we can't privatize it, what about a voucher system where each child gets money attached to them every year, and schools have to compete to recruit that child if they want the money? (If that makes sense). I just think we need to run schools more like businesses and less like inefficient socialist-style institutions. -
I'm torn. Yeah, Flair is old and a shell of the worker he once was, but he still entertains me. Hell, I'd rather watch 57 year old Ric Flair throw chops and work a guy's leg than watch some slug like Gene Snitsky stink up the ring. Flair will retire when he's ready. How many times has a promotion tried to push the Nature Boy aside or erase his legacy, only to turn back to him when things were rough, and have Flair almost instantly right the ship? He deserves to go out however he wants.

Monster Cables are good but overpriced...there are cables and products that are just as good for less. Wire is wire...don't go for the cheapest stuff, but don't blow your load on Monster stuff. Btw, I know for a fact that Best Buy and Circuit City people make a lot of commission off those Monster Cables, so that's why they push them.

See, I agree. My wife was really into the X Division 6 man tag that aired on the prime time special a couple months back. I think that's why moving Impact to Thursdays is going to be so great...a lot more casual fans might have the chance to see the product and get hooked.

Someone needs to make Steinbrenner shut the hell up. The world doesn't revolve around his precious team, as much as he'd like to think.
-
Exactly...yeah, their opinion shows are mostly conservative (though O'Reilly isn't anywhere close to being the evil conservative people make him out to be...), but their actual news reports seem pretty even handed to me.
-
Yeah...basically it played into the storyline of Bischoff playing a generic heelish authority figure...he didn't like RVD and Kane (two faces) having the belts, so he brought in LOD to try and beat them.

Well, I don't know if the US has to become completely isolationist, but I think they have to become more demanding of the rest of the world, and not give despot nations so much money in trade & aid...stick to working with and dealing with fellow civilized democracies and let the barbarians kill and destroy each other. I think our government needs to get much harder on the UN as well. No more allowing dictators to run wild, and no more weak words. You want to use our troops and money in some African country? Fine, but that country is going to become a protecorate of the United States, so we can make sure they don't revert to hating us right after we pull out...and we're going to recoup our costs by running their economy for a while...meanwhile, we'll make sure they have a proper infrastructure when we leave, so they can't go back to blaming the great Satan for all their problems.

Well, instead of cutting the education budget, why don't we just admit that the government has no business running the education system and simply privatize the whole damn thing already? -
Ultimately the US will have a much stronger hand in dealing with the Arab world if we can break our dependence on their oil, thus cutting off the majority of our economic ties with them. I think we should also pull our troops out of Saudi Arabia and other areas like that, and let them fight each other if need be, as long as they don't bother Israel or our other allies in the region.

I don't want to turn this thread into another Fox News debate, but that just shows you that they're not as completely biased as people claim. Yeah, I'll agree that they lean conservative, but it's not like the whole network is a bunch of Sean Hannitys towing the line. I wonder if people that criticize Fox News all the time have even watched the network for more than five minutes, sometimes... As far as Africa, I find it ironic that they once wanted Europeans out of Africa, now they constantly turn to the West for financial aid. I think the key to breaking the cycle is to cut off pretty much all economic aid unless it comes in the form of trade and technological assistance. I've heard from more than one source that many African governments simply try to get more aid year after year, and of course there's problems with graft and corruption, etc. Africa needs to pull Africa up if they want to move ahead.

Didn't know anyone was making a movie about him until just now.

Well, if that happens, how would we retaliate? I mean, unless they could pinpoint what country was responsible for harboring the terrorists responsible, like with 9/11...it's not like we could just start nuking every Islamic country for revenge.

How many fans are that familiar with Ring of Honor? Also, doesn't TNA already have half the ROH roster under contract (Joe, Styles, Lethal, Aries, Strong, etc...) I'm OK with Steiner coming in as long as he can work decently and is willing to job once in a while. If both those criteria are met, than this could end up being a good signing for TNA. Steiner is one of those people that can get the attention of the casual fans, especially if he does one of his "shoot" interviews where he rips on everyone. TNA ultimately has to build up the guys they already have if they want to succeed, though.

That's true. One forgotten example I like to bring up is Rhodesia compared to its successor, Zimbabwe. Basically they went from having an apartheid-like system moving towards gradual racial integration and a growing economy, to being dominated by a repressive dictator.

Wasn't Ricky Steamboat in WWF by that point? ...and his opponent was "Mighty Zulu?" You'd think Fritz could've found a better use for Steamboat then that...or was this just supposed to be a squash win that was supposed to be the start of a longer run?
-
Don't remember that one (Steamboat in WCCW). Any details?

Well, technically a rear projection TV _is_ a CRT television set, so I believe that's what he's referring to.
-
Well, I could be wrong, but Scott Steiner at least showed in WWE he was willing to put a few people over (if losing to Triple H counts as putting someone over). But, if he can't work, he's useless. Hell, if he only works as well as he did in WWE, he's useless.

Man, I'm not looking forward to getting cable installed in our new house. There's only one cable outlet in the entire place (living room), so they'll have to run more wire, I guess. I'd go with satellite, since Charter is a crappy company to deal with, but I want high speed internet as well.

The problem with the Democrats is that they never outline any alternative solutions for our problems. I'm sorry, but most of the country is scared to death of terror right now. You can't have your candidate say that they'll take action in a foreign country if it passes "the international litmus test." We want a president who will tough on terror...you can't come off as limp wristed. You have to explain your policies clearly in basic language, not say "it's all on my website." Of course I'm referring to John Kerry, but it goes beyond that. Howard Dean was a horrible choice to be DNC chairman...average Americans see him as an extremist, and when he does interviews he doesn't offer clear solutions to any problems America is facing.

I think that's a legitimate argument...one strength the NFL, and to a lesser extent the NBA and NHL, have right now is that basically every team has a legitimate chance of making it to the playoffs and the championship. Unless you're a totally bottom of the barrel NFL team, it's realistic that you could go to the playoffs this season. The other nice thing is that a team can suck one year, but recouperate quickly and become a playoff contender by the next season. In MLB, it takes years to rebuild a team, sometimes. That can be incredibly frustrating as a fan.

I'm pretty sure that's what he meant, mfn. Most people around here liked the original ECW, and last year's nostalgia show was fine, but there's no reason for it to be a yearly occurence unless ECW were to come back full time in some capacity.
-
OK, great...but again, what good does it do if Congress or no one else steps in to actually PUNISH the Bush administration for this? I guess I'm just sick of this administration being able to get away with doing a lousy job, get caught contradicting itself time and again, not defending our border properly, and not being punished for it. Is this ever going to come to a head at some point, or do we just sit around twiddling our thumbs and waiting for 2009?

Hawk34 has it right. Like it or not, believe it or not, NASCAR is no longer a redneck/hick sport. Yeah, a lot of those types of people like it, but there's a huge amount of NASCAR fans in other parts of the country. They're very strong with female fans as well, as was noted. NASCAR claims to be the "number one spectator sport in the US." I'm not sure what they base that on, but when they can get over 100,000 people at a race, it says something. And a lot of those tickets are around 200 bucks a pop. NASCAR has been doing a great job of updating their image. They tie in sponsors with huge crossover appeal, and bring in acts like Bon Jovi to perform before races. I'm not a NASCAR follower personally, but I get sick of people trying to pigeon hole and stereotype things so much.
