WWE: Continuing to cater to that elusive homosexual wrestling fan demographic by ripping off an old Will Farrell SNL gag.
-
I could see him doing some kind of backstage interview or cameo kind of thing to hype up being in the Rumble match, but that's about it.

Sorry, I don't post in here much as I don't read comics anymore (got tired of Marvel after they handed some of their big books to those Image guys). That costume looks like Spider-Man and Iron Man had some bastard step child to me.

Feuds That Could Have Happened But Never Did
Dobbs 3K replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in General Wrestling
Vader vs Steve Austin (WWF circa 1997). They had one match on RAW, which was ok, but I thought a full blown, violent, feud between the two would've been great. Problem was Austin was already going into a feud with Bret Hart and Vader's stock was slowly starting to plummet... Owen Hart vs Steve Austin (WWF 1998). This is the feud that should've happened eventually after Austin beat HBK for the WWF Championship. If Austin could've swallowed his pride just a little, they could've billed it as Owen being the only guy to ever put Austin out of action, coming for the title. Understandable why Austin didn't want to work with Owen, though. Steve Williams vs Bart Gunn (WWF 1998). Ok, this wouldn't have been a main event feud or anything, but I think the matches could've been interesting, after the whole Brawl for All thing. Dan Severn vs Ken Shamrock (WWF 1997). Well, they were both around at the same time. WWF wanted it to happen, but I guess Severn balked, which ended up with him leaving. Al Snow vs Mick Foley (WWF 1999). After Al Snow's heel turn, this should've been a great feud. Al had a cool heel character, cool new black tights (and some AWESOME theme music WWF never should've stopped using), built up with his jealousy of Foley, but the feud just kind of peetered out before it had a chance to happen. Steiner Brothers vs Hart Brothers (WWF 1994-ish). OK, either Owen would've had to stay face for a while longer, or the Steiners probably would've had to go heel, but the matches could've been insanely good. All they would've had to do was have Bret and Owen beat the Quebecers for the tag belts, and delay Owen's heel turn for a little bit. -
Didn't Rhino debut as a heel goon for Cyrus as part of "The Network", or am I mistaken?

We need to find this guy, and he needs a nice old-fashioned public execution.

I can't believe my "Yeah, and it rocked, IIRC" quote is still around.

MTV is starting a wrestling promotion
Dobbs 3K replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in General Wrestling
Um, there have actually been quite a few pilots done for wrestling promotions throughout the years, believe it or not. -
Does it make me a bad person if I think that was pretty hillarious?

Just saw the pics of the Levesque Express. Gotta love the iron cross emblem on the floor. Looks like a pretty awesome ride.

Meltzer's report of the Mexico City show make it sound like it was a pretty dull show. Lot of screw job finishes. Animal running in during the opening bout makes no sense. At least they had one lucha star (El Hijo del Santo) appear. I'm sure it was one of those shows that was enjoyable live, though.

Oh, I'm sure it will be hitting store shelves soon, since text adventures are all the rage these days, especially ones with shameless political biases.

True...it's not a fair comarison. WCW had been around much longer by the time they started going toe to toe with Monday Night RAW with Nitro. TNA has only been around about five years, and started from scratch. They didn't have a base from Georgia, Florida, and Mid-Atlantic wrestling to build from. It also kind of depends what era of WCW you're referring to. If it's WCW of anywhere between '95 and '99, they win by a mile. If it's 2000-2001 WCW, TNA wins because of the lack of Vince Russo.

Impact scores a record high rating for Monday Replay
Dobbs 3K replied to CubbyBr's topic in TNA Wrestling
Personally I would love to have TNA on Thursday nights. I know everyone is creaming their pants at the thought of a new Monday Night wrestling war, but I don't think TNA is ready for that. I personally miss having the option of Smackdown on Thursdays, and it has been a traditional night for wrestling since WCW Thunder started in '98 or so. I think they could really excell in a prime time Thursday night spot. -
It maybe wasn't a great match, but it was certainly one with a lot of interest, especially with Angle being the new World Heavyweight Champion, and the long running Angle/HBK "feud". Just because a match doesn't end up being a five star classic, doesn't mean people don't tune in for it. As far as the argument that more people are starting to tune in because WM is getting closer, I don't think I really buy that. I mean, how many people do you honestly know that don't watch WWE for nine months, and then suddenly start watching "because Wrestlemania is coming up." Doesn't make sense.

For me, I'd say the period of early '96 thru early '98 was my favorite part of WWF history (roughly corresponding to WM12 thru WM14). It just seemed like they were trying a lot of new things, moving out of the cartoonish era, got rid of a lot of crappy guys (though after Razor and Diesel left, they brought in more for a short period). You had the Hart Foundation vs Steve Austin, etc. They tried some new teams like Furnas and Lafon. Undertaker was probably at a career high as far as workrate. Ken Shamrock was a hot commodity. You had the new Light Heavyweight division. Overall, it just seemed like it was a pretty exciting time to be a WWF fan (and wrestling fan in general with WCW creating competition).

"Stay Free" was on "Give 'Em Enough Rope." I like Sandinista. I can't sit through the whole thing, but there are enough songs I like that I will put it in the CD player fairly often. Joe Strummer once said in an interview that it really should have just been a single album or even an EP, so it's not like the Clash themselves thought the whole thing was great. It's a very experimental album. I personally think "Somebody Got Murdered" is very haunting. I'm also surprised "Police on My Back" isn't remembered more fondly. Same for "Hitsville U.K." I mean, it has a very commercial sound that I'm surprised never caught onto mainstream radio. I think my favorite track is "Up in Heaven (Not Only Here)". It's what the Clash was all about...talking about social issues in a meaningful way. The lyrics are just so clever and Mick Jones' delivery dead on. I think Strummer was the better vocalist by far, but this is one of Jones' best performances. "Allianza dollars are spent...to raise the towering buildings...for the weary bones of the workers...to be strong in the morning." The music haunts you...it's a masterful piece.

No, I'm pretty sure I've read elsewhere that it was indeed Jannetty, though I have no sources to cite.
-
I'd assume it was either Gagne or someone in the NWA, but I have no idea for sure. I think I vaguely remember reading an interview Brody did where he said someone really did offer him the money, though. I'm surprised he didn't do it.

1000 Reasons why Late Night with Conan O'Brien
Dobbs 3K replied to The Mandarin's topic in Television & Film
236. Similar to #234 on "The More You Know": "This is a condom. I don't like wearing them, so I'm not gonna. No hooker's going to tell me what to do." 237. The fact that Conan's whole show isn't produced and done from a completely blatant and partial liberal point of view. -
What is with giving guys only their last name? What is wrong with calling him "Fit Finlay" or "David Finlay"? Does everyone have to be like "Goldberg" (like they did with Batista and will probably do with "Lashley")?
-
Hmmm, Kidman would be nice, and would fit Meltzer's description. Plus Kidman was a Flock member in WCW, so they could play that up. Speaking of, anyone else find it weird how TNA is the company bringing up WCW more than WWE lately?
-
My question is...why did they hire Joey Styles if they didn't want him to commentate like Joey Styles? They should've just brought back Jim Ross if that's the style they wanted.
-
I could see Brody doing something like that (the mop thing) from things I've read about him. What I always wondered about was the story about how someone was going to pay him a bunch of money to do a shoot run in at WM1. Who was going to pay him? Sounds like it could've been pretty tense.
-
I'm pretty sure WWF really did need to bring them back during that period. Wasn't Hogan gone as well at that point? Also, Piper proved useful when Bret Hart got sick, which led to Piper's IC title reign.
